[OLD]
Jemnar's hand had reached and touched Rogers' hand while he remained in a slumber, his sleeping expressing softening a bit more.
[NEW]
Sam noticed the hand and smiled. "It looks like he's starting to recover all ready."
Michelle felt the touch and put the PADD down. She kissed the back of his hand and then rubbed at it, just letting him know she was there. "If you miss Date night, Date Night comes to you." She said softly. "You had me worried there Jem." Her fingers stroked at the back of his hand. "If there was anything I could do, you know I would, energy, blood....anything." Her focus was on him, it was that bad that his gloves nor his personal PADD with the voice program were near him, if he woke the nurses might have to rely on her and the sign language. No pressure, just another translating challenge, at least she had her dictionary PADD there in a pinch. She was not about to let his hand go, she turned her own stool so that their hands were palms together, holding it and occasionally giving it a squeeze. "Oh Jem." she whispered, pressing his hand to her cheek for a moment.
Jimnar felt the warmth increase as his body was basking in the warming touch; it was not from his people but he knew the source of the resonance. Mishey had arrived, she was close to him at any rate and he could not help but feel the woman he cared for touching his hand.
His head lulled over towards Michelle and continued in more relaxed and contented slumber but in a lighter form.
Sam turned to the two doctors. "Was T'Pral conscious when she was beamed to sickbay?"
"Thankfully, no," Lita said. She held both of her palms out, begging for another moment to explain the seemingly cold answer. "In situations like these, losing consciousness is often a mercy. It's the brain's way of protecting itself from overwhelming shock," she said. She knew she should let Alex field the questions, but Williams was eager to a get a feel for her rapport with the ship's commander.
"Understood. I'm curious to find out if she noticed anything before the explosion." Sam paused and then explained. "While her survival is my first priority, my second is to find out who is behind the attack."
"On Vulcan. Of all places." Lita shook her head in disbelief.
"On Vulcan. Of all places," Sam replied, but this time it was more of a statement. "And that is why we need to help find out what happened. To keep it from happening again."
Alex listened through her assistant reporting to her new commanding officer, nodding, but not interrupting. Lita needed to get herself acquainted with Commodore York. Also, what she said was definitely the same answer she'd given.
"The medical department is ready to assist in the investigation in any way needed, ma'am.", she finally spoke up, duty-bound, as always, "We shouldn't let fear and terror reign over this peaceful corner of the galaxy."
"Agreed," Sam said, smiling at the doctor. "Thank you for your prompt attention to Lieutenant T'Pral."
"It's my duty, ma'am.", Alexandra smiled back, glad because of the positive vibes, but still worried about T'Pral and Mr. Jemnar.
Mishy was there, his eyes slowly opened in a groggy way, still heavy with the need for some rest but her distress was biting at him. He gave a squeeze to her hand and looked in her direction. They were not in eith of their beds; he had to clear the clouds of recovery... oh, that is where he is, sick Bay. Oh boy, Michelle will be mad at him after this?
Rogers noticed the eyes opening before the slight squeeze. "Jem!" SHe tried not to but it was an exclamation. "You're all right, you're awake? The tears were trying to get past her eyes but she fought them back and kept his hand to her cheek. "DOn't scare me like that."
"W-h-a-t h-a p-p-e-n-e-d?" He signed with one hand slowly.
"You missed Date night so Date Night came ot you." She smiled with one tear sliding down. "I could ask you the same thing?"
Alexandra quickly snapped when she noticed a computer signal telling her Mr. Jemnar has gained back his consciousness. "Captain. Doctor.", she turned to Sam and Lita, indicating the patient with her head. "Careful. Don't interrupt, please.", she said on a low voice, as they stepped closer, witnessing the Nurse and his date finding each other.
Sam had no intention of interrupting just yet. She was very interested in watching the interplay between the two.
Softtouch felt the eyes pointing his way; it would be a natural thing, he brought her hands to his lips and kissed them in an assuring way before he took his other hand from hers.
[Ask them How T'Pral is for me please?] He signed. [Patient we were operating on.]
Rogers looked at him then towards the three she only now noticed are looking their way. "Jem is wondering about someone named T'pral?" She relayed. "He is concerned, that is what he signed, to ask about the patient."
It took a moment for Alex to realize what Ms. Rogers was inquiring about, when she transmitted Jemnar's signed question to the trio standing nearby. "T'Pral?", she looked at woman at the bedside, then, she turned straight to Jemnar and told him the news. "T'Pral is unconscious but her condition is stable. We can't be absolutely sure yet, but we expect her to fully recover.", she said, then added on a less professional tone, "You've made that possible. I don't exactly know how you did it, but it's due to your help."
Softtouch turned a bit darker and began signing his requested reply as Rogers watched intently; raising an eyebrow and tilting her head slightly. He is a modest sort and this was going far in that venue.
["It was only a timely intervention, I am sorry I fainted as I should have stayed for the rest of teh surgery.] She relayed as he added a few more signs. "He was glad to have been of help is all he wishes to express." Rogers raised an eyebrown. "I would like to know what is so special that Jem did in all thius?" Rogers looked at the Doctor. "He is just a nurse right, what did he do that was so diffrent?"
Softtouch's eyes widened. *This is going to end badly!* His mind screamed telepathically. *I will be a freak again.*
"No, you won't," Sam assured him telepathically. She did not know sign language, but she did pick up on his telepathic shout.
"Mr. Jemnar has a rare genetic ability that was sorely taxed today. If word got out about it, he would be put under a great deal of stress, if not physical harm, by others who do not understand the repercussions of using such a gift," Sam said quietly. "You saw what happens when he uses his gift. I'm sure you can also imagine how he would be treated if others knew about this. I trust you to help me keep his secret."
"I care very deeply for Jem." Rogers said without hesitation. "If it means keeping a secret then so be it. He means the world to me."
The sheer determination mixed with caring warmth that radiated from Michelle was amazing, Softtouch felt he had made a good match with her.
Sam smiled. "I had no doubt of that." She turned to Jemner. "Is T'Pral going to be okay?"
Softtouch nodded as he signed.
"Aside from being scratched up, internally she is fine." Rogers looked at Jemnar with some question. "Past threshold to have tried anymore, sorry."
"Thank you," Sam replied. "I appreciate what you did for her. Now, rest."
Sam turned to the doctors. "Please let me know when Lieutenant T'Pral is awake and able to have visitors. You all did a tremendous job saving her life and I'm grateful."
Sam turned and headed back to her office so the staff could get back to more important things.
