Physical Description | Lita is a tiny woman with a build of slender muscle. She is rarely caught without a smile or a glimmer of mischief in her eye. Whenever the command structure allows, she will opt out of wearing a Starfleet uniform and instead dress in informal clothing to help promote a more casual atmosphere in her relationship with the people she treats. She has several tattoos on her body; while she enjoys dressing pretty, on duty she is careful to dress in a way as not to display them (a wolf on her upper back, angel wings on her shoulders, a scorpion on her lower back, butterflies on her inner wrists, a bar of latinum just below her right buttock, and a fire over her heart). |

Ambitions | Lita wants to revolutionize the way that the people behind health care think. Despite the phenomenal progress that Starfleet continues to see in medicine, she feels that proper patient care is desperately languishing. All of the humanity is being sucked out of healing to be replaced by rapidly advancing technological solutions. She wants to see doctors innovate, and to stop solving every problem by filling a hypospray. Put simply, she wants to encourage the notion that most sapient beings should be given a prescription to eat foods that contain the proper vitamins and minerals, rather than be injected with the exacting levels of the nutrients they require. She is NOT a fan of the Emergency Medical Hologram program and the future that it represents in health care. |

Personal History | Lita Williams lived out her first five years as the child of Merchant Marines. Those early years were spent on various starships and at several starbases and outposts as her parents engaged in trade negotiations with several inner and extra Federation societies. At age five, while her parents were engaged in trade with representatives from bordering Nausicaan controlled space near a Ferengi trading station, her ship was attacked. Lita's father launched the children on single person escape pods, while he and her mother were permitted to abandon ship once all children aboard were confirmed safely evacuated. Her parents did not survive long in their pods. Of the Williams family, only Lita and her brothers made it back to the Ferengi trading post. Lita was badly burned in a fire that engulfed her pod and she was deemed medically dead for two minutes before miraculously being revived on the trading post by a Ferengi trauma team. Stranded alone for several weeks due to the volatile nature of space in the area following the attack, and outside the control of the Federation, Lita was watched over by strangers. In the confusion that followed the attack, Lita’s older brothers would be quickly sent back to Earth with her oldest brother claiming custody of the younger brother. A Ferengi woman on the outpost, Tana, had lived life with her husband off-world from Ferenginar for many years at a time. She saw an opportunity for profit in Lita's situation. However, as she came to care for her new prize she quickly fell in love with the little girl instead, much to her surprise. She paid for Lita’s costly medical bills and soon adopted her back to Ferenginar. Lita's 'abduction' to the Ferengi homeworld would cause an incident that demanded Federation intervention and would prove to bankrupt Tana and her husband with the unending legal bills required of Ferengi lawyers. Lita’s younger brother would have many run-ins with law enforcement over the years, making the older brother's claims over their sister difficult to sustain, while her adopted parents leveraged legal claims that her two minutes spent dead after her pod crashed invoked specific clauses in interstellar treaties meant to refer to the handling of Federation casualties in non-Federation space -- particularly strengthed by her brothers leaving her alone on the outpost at that time. Lita's oldest brother would eventually give up the legal battle for custody of Lita when Tana and her husband finally agreed to return her to Earth rather than give up their adopted daughter. Once back on Earth, at age 15, Lita was able to undergo cosmetic surgery to completely undo the horrific scarring the escape pod fire had once caused. Having only truly knowing life on Ferenginar, Lita would quickly come to hate life on Earth. She hated her new 'pretty face' and she hated the ideals and customs of her own people. Her adolescent years would prove to be a very dark chapter in her life. She stopped attending school, fell in with a unsavory crowd, and had several run-ins with the authorities. If there was any bad road for a kid to go down, she took it. Her adopted parents were having an impossible time adapting to life on Earth as Ferengi, and their daughter was hardly making that any easier. Counselors were unable to help. To her adopted parents horror, Lita would often come home with new tattoos and even went through a phase where she had affected differing eye colors and sharpened four of her teeth to mimic the undead fictional characters that she and her brooding friends had grown obsessed with. She became fascinated with death and horror, and she was particularly fascinated with the notion that she herself had died for two minutes as a child. Following yet another run in with the authorities, fate would soon have her put to work in community service at a local hospital. There she would work cleaning rooms under the supervision of one Dr. Simon Armand. This counselor was a controversial pioneer in his field, eschewing the traditional methods for dealing with troubled youth. His highly unusual methods of experimental treatment practices abandoned the conventional therapy sessions in an office setting, and that proved to be exactly what Lita needed. With his help, Lita shed her beloved goth persona and found a new outlook on life. She kept the tattoos but restored the teeth and eyes back to human norms. Inspired to do for others what Dr. Armand had done for her, Lita was determined to follow in his footsteps. She doubled down on her schooling and pursued academic credentials in the traditional psychological disciplines. But she soon found that she wanted to treat physical ailments as well as mental. She wanted to fix everything. When she was forced to make a decision in her post-secondary education, she chose to work toward an M.D. Like her mentor, Lita would embrace innovative methods for dealing with her patients. Although she would face a great deal of disdain and disapproval from her peers for her controversial methods, her efforts would often be rewarded with success in treating long term disability patients that had previously been given up on by other professionals in her field. Now, she works twice as hard as most people in her field. She puts in the extra effort to utilize more time consuming ways of helping her patients (allowing small cuts to heal, tiny scars to linger, and prescribing long lectures for careless behavior) and she frequently puts in the extra hours to draft papers to promote her methods against the established paradigm. She is a firm believer in doctors that are able to heal when the computers are down and the lights don’t work. However, she will never put her methods ahead of a patient’s safety or general well being. She completely understands that medicine is a science and that many long held conventional methods are just simply right. She would happily recommend biotic eyes to correct loss of vision. She would be very unhappy to be involved in a consultation for male pattern baldness. Lita looks back on her earlier life without regrets. She sees her past as instrumental to making her into the woman she is today. Though she has left that dark and gloomy little goth girl behind, she still holds a love for horror fiction and a secret love for stories that features dark, brooding, mysterious, tortured souls. She likes the person that she is today, and she knows that she is that person because of a completely unconventional upbringing that no person would have ever prescribed for her. This notion drives her. |
