Mission: Pulling Together
[OLD]
"First, I'd like to know about the man you both call father," Kara said. "Was he gone for long periods of time? Did he leave Cam and his mother and then get together with Lilliana's mother? Did you grow up in the same city?"
Cam shook his head, "no my father never left us. I don't know how this could have happened"
[NEW]
Lilliana sighed, "well, all I can tell you is what I've been told. My mother told me that they met one night in a bar when he was on temporary assignment to Andoria. Mother told me that our father was in a low place. He never said why, but after more than a few drinks between them, things just happened" she explained, doing her best to stay out of their heads out of a sence of privacy as this was a very touchy subject, "he left a few days later. He never knew about me"
"So how did you find out about him?" Kara asked.
"Well I knew that I was different from other children when I started schooling. I could see with my eyes and I didn't have antennae like the others did. But it wasn't until high school that I discovered that I wasn't completely an Aenar" Lilliana explained, thinking back, "it was an assignment for class. We were to take samples from our own DNA and compare them to samples of other Aenar DNA on file. The others had similar DNA, but I found several discrepancies with mine. After being aloud to access DNA from other Federation species, I found out that I was half human. After I found that out, my mother chose to explain everything to me and told me that my biological father was a Marine Officer on temporary assignment to Andoria and everything else is history"
Kara shook her head. That was a terrible way to learn about her father. "I'm sorry." She looked at Cam. "For both of you."
Cam just sat there processing everything. He never really got along with his father, simply because he never seemed to have enough time for him while he was growing up. Maybe now he could find out why.
"I appreciate that Mrs Melo, or is it Bourne? Your files say the two of you are married but it still has your family name on your file" Lilliana asked, getting a little curious about her sister in law.
"We're married, but we can't decide who will take who's name," Kara said, smiling fondly at Cam. "So we just stayed as we were, at least as far as Starfleet records go. The Commodore did something similar. She's married, but since she was already the Captain of the Calypso, she kept her name--officially. I think in private she is Samantha Raine, but I'm not sure."
Kara turned to Cam, wanting to hear what he had to say to his half-sister.
After a moment, Cam finally spoke up again, "um, so is that why you're here? To track me down and explain things?"
"Not entirely" Lilliana answered, "I was sent here to be this ship's new Marine CO. The fact that I was replacing my older half-brother was just a bonus extra"
Cam suddenly snapped out of his own thoughts, "wait, you're replacing me? But how did they find out. I haven't even discussed my retirement with Kara yet" he asked
Lilliana shook her head, "I don't know. All I can say is that command received word that the USS Calypso was in need of a new Marine CO and I was avalable for transfer"
Kara turned to Cam. "You're retiring? Why? Why didn't you tell me?"
He said nothing to her for several minutes. Finally, Kara nodded and stood up. "Okay. I think the two of you should settle this like Marines. Go to the bar and have a few beers and talk. I'll stay here so you can have a brother-sister bonding moment. I'll stop by later and see how you're doing. Just remember that neither of you are responsible for the actions of your father." Then she turned to Cam. "But you should have told me abut your decision before now. I don't care what you do as long as we're together, but I think that as your wife I should be informed."
The two still hadn't moved or said anything. "Now, go. I need to clean up in here and you're just in the way." Cam would know she was lying. While she generally kept the place clean enough, Kara always preferred to share the task with Cam.
When she'd finally managed to shoo the two out, she dropped onto the couch and sighed.
