Mission:
Pulling Together
Location: Holodeck
Timeline: Shore Leave - Before the explosions
The people sitting outside on the café's terrace suddenly looked up as a gigantic shadow slowly loomed over them, blocking the sun. Then came the booming noise of something enormous slowly approaching. They were looking up in surprise, some of them in fear. Some of them knew already what this noise meant. It was her coming this way. Some cars could be heard horning and some people yelling as the gigantic 'thing' slowly moved unto the street, passing by the tall buildings. Then, finally, they could see the giant moving in: she passed through right next to the café, with the people outside and inside frantically watching, glued to the windows. From their perspective, they could see a pair of sandals twice the size of an army tank, but gazing up, they could catch the sight of the rest of the gigantic 'monster', who happened to be an athletic woman in her thirties, just a bit larger than usual.
Alexandra, wearing a small light beige top, similarly coloured yoga pants and a comfortable sandal, slowly walked through the tiny street, careful not to step on anything or anyone. It was often a difficult task, especially when the downtown streets were full, but fortunately the program allowed her to reduce traffic to a minimum, so she won't have to fight through these obstacles. Neverthless, being 130 feet tall was never easy, she realized as she accidentally stepped on a newspaper box, crushing it, and making the tiny woman who stood next to it frightened to death. "Ooops... sorry, ma'am.", she apologized with a gentle grin, looking down at the 3-inch tall woman, the continued her 'little' walk.
However, today was a special day for the city, as - unknown yet to its inhabitants at the moment - they had to welcome another giant today. Alex heard a familiar voice and the sound of footsteps from some corners away.
"This is sooooo cooool," Lita said, her voice deepened and echoed by the holodeck's acoustic processing algorithms. The ACMO marched in large purposeful strides over to where Alex stood, careful to step between both buildings and people. She wore a red blouse over small khaki climbing shorts, her feet were adorned with climbing boots, and her hands were wrapped in black finger-less gloves. When Doctor Alves had invited her here with a warning to prepare for a profound vertical experience, Lita had assumed she meant something else entirely. "I assumed you were taking me mountain climbing!"
Alex turned around to see her new colleague and friend arriving. She gave her a wide smile as she watched the new-found giant carefully step through the miniature streets, wearing what appeared to be a mountain climbing outfit, making the doctor raise an eyebrow. "Hey, careful with those boots!", she said with a grin, "It took me a while to convince these people I'm not some monster who came here to destroy their city and eat the population. And I'm sure there are some who's still skeptical about that."
"Hey, I'm a doctor. Careful is my middle name!" Williams teased. And just as those words left her mouth, she heard a sharp yelp cry out from below. The sound was more of a shriek, really, and it was quickly cut short as Lita's boot made contact with the ground. Her eyes went wide, and she looked up at Alex. "I. Am. So. Sorry."
"Oh, I'm sure you'll...", Alex started, then she suddenly rolled her eyes, looking first at her colleague, then to the ground. "What happened?"
Lita winced as though the embarrassment had reached out and slapped her across the face. She slowly lifted up her right leg, twisting her foot around so that she could hold her boot with both hands and study the horrific organic mess that was trapped in its treads. "Oh that is so gross," she said to herself. To Alex she spoke timidly, "Maybe we could reset the program?"
From farther away a soft cry of tiny voices rose in a swell of anger. "Murderer!" they cried. "How could you!?!"
The doctor thought for a moment, lamenting on this not exactly positive situation, as an angry mob of three-inch tall people gathered around their feet. Maybe it wasn't exactly the best idea to invite her colleague here without properly briefing her. "Well... we can reset...", she then looked at Lita, "But I'd recommend you changing your attire. Especially your footwear.", she said with a sarcastic grin. Then looking down, she shrugged, "Hey, we're sorry, okay?"
"Computer, what did I just step on?" Lita asked. She was already cringing in fear of what terrible atrocities she was about to hear spoken aloud to her from the great divine above.
=^= Amorphophallus titanum =^= the computer responded dispassionately.
Lita's brow furrowed. She stood up straight. "A flower?"
"That's right!" a tiny voice called out from below, not far from where she was now standing. This must have been the person that yelped when Lita accidentally trampled his flowerbed. "These 'flowers' have been in my family for nearly three generations! And you just come walking through here and march all over them like you own the place! You killed them! My precious babies! I demand justice!"
"Murderer!" the crowd cried.
Lita held up her hands in defense. She looked to Alex. She shrugged meekly. "Help?"
