Mission: What Lies Beneath?

Samantha sent out a message to all senior staff and the lounge manager, asking them to meet her at 1400 hours in the conference room. She'd met that morning with Captain Fannin and the Orion had been asked to help with a situation.

Sheridan entered the ready room, "Hello captain hows go's our new mission...?"

"As soon as everyone gets here, I'll let you know," she said. After the meeting and before they left for Tiberius IV she would have to discuss the details of the mission with John and Damon.

Ted walked in, a little disgruntled. His lounge was a wreck and the repairs were going very slowly due to the problems with other parts of the ship. He did not like it at all. He took a seat at the end of the table, trying not to think of the state of his bar.

Damon followed moments later wearing a fresh uniform. He spotted Samantha at the head of the table and smiled. "Afternoon, 'Captain'." He tilted his head in recognition of her new status.

"Good afternoon, Captain," Sam replied, returning his smile.

The Chief Medical Officer appeared through the conference door and took a seat that was available. She nodded at Commander York when her eyes looked at her. Leanne set her PADD down and crossed her arms as she waited for the meeting to begin.

When everyone had entered the room, Sam began. "First, thank you all for coming at such short notice. I met this morning with Captain Fannin on the Starbase. A week ago a mining ship carrying equipment and personnel went to Tiberius IV and disappeared. A team was dispatched to investigate. They, too, are missing. There is no sign of an accident, no debris, nothing on the planet." Sam paused to let that sink in. "We have been asked to investigate. We leave tomorrow."

Sheridan looked concerned. "How large was the Mining ship? And how many were on the second team?"

Ted frowned. What did they need from the lounge? What could a lounge manager do for something like this? He kept his mouth shut; he knew he would find out eventually.

"Ten miners. Large cargo ship with about 200 metric tons of equipment. No trace at all. No indications of a crash." She looked around the table. "I know the repairs aren't complete, but we need to get all system-critical repairs done before we lave. Anything else can wait until we get back. Ted, we may need some food packs. I know we can replicate ration packs, but in this case it might be a good idea to have some real food packs ready. Say two dozen? Yes, it's unconventional, but it might be nice to have something home-cooked, so to speak."

Damon frowned at the mention of which planet the crew's disappeared to. "Tiberius Four? That's the class M desert planet, correct?"

"Yes, it is," Sam replied.

Damon nodded and sat back in his chair deep in thought.

Sam tapped on the computer screen and an image of the planet popped up on the large screen. "This is Tiberius IV. As you can see it's arid. Only 10-20% of the planet has water and most of that is at the poles." The picture on the screen changed. "We'll be looking farther South, roughly at the 49th parallel. That's where the mining ship was headed. OreCo believes there is a high concentration of dilithium and decalithium there. That's what the equipment was for."

Sam turned off the screen. "First, we'll scan the surface, see if we can find any evidence of either ship or crew. Then we'll send a small team down to the planet where the ship was supposed to land. This team will only check the immediate area. As there are no signs of a crash, it is logical to assume the ships landed on target."
