Mission: Shadow Dance
Location: Calypso
Timeline: Day 3, 0800

ON

As soon as Sam returned to the Calypso she called her senior staff for an emergency briefing to discuss the new problem and what they could do about it.

Illise walked briskly down the corridor towards the briefing room, passing crewmen going about thier duties. She returned a nodded greeting to a couple of them but continued without stopping. As she did, she briefly wondered what rumors were spreading among the crew about thier current mission. There were bound to be a few by now.

Illise arrived at the briefing room and entered to find that she was the first to arrive. Having free choice, she took a seat in the middle of the table and turned her chair to look out the window at the planet below. She always loved the view from orbit, when there was an opportunity. Unfortunatley, there would be rumors spreading there as well. Dispite best efforts she had no doubt that word of the Princess' 'dissappearance' had made it past the palace walls. After that, it would a short matter for Starfleet and the Federation to be conected with it somehow. With this in mind, Illise's consideration of the planet below had a somehwat less relaxing quality this time.

Logan walked into the briefing room with Spock on his shoulder. He was shocked to see he beat his friends to the meeting. He took a seat and looked at the PADD he brought with him, which held a few notes he put down to bring up or suggest for future actions. He thought if he was going to be treated like a member of the senior staff he should at least participate more instead of hanging back and just listening and observing like always Remy wanted him to.

T'Pral stepped in, a PADD in her hand. While she wasn't completely aware of what the briefing was for, she had made certain she was prepared with the preliminary results of her own investigation. She chose a seat near the middle of the table, assuming a formal pose, with her hands neatly folded upon the surface, to await the Captain.

Arnon entered and sat down, eager to hear what the Commodore had to say.

Damon walked in and took his familiar station against the wall. He had a lot to process from the meeting on the planet. He stayed quiet and waited for the briefing to begin.

Munich had come into the conference Room with a PADD in hand and a very military pace in his strides. The years of his schooling was comig out with the stress of the mission came out in his expressio and manners.

"Goot da every-vone." His German accent came prominat without him realizing.

Damion walk into and took his seat. No PADD. No treat. All business. Something was clearly going through his mind.

Drani was the last to arrive, having to finish healing an ensign's leg that had been broken on the holodeck. "Greetings," she greeted. as she took her seat next to Arnon.

Sam walked in and smiled to the staff already assembled. "Good morning. Thank you for coming." She went to the replicator and made herself a mug of hot cocoa with Betazed chocolate and plenty of whipped cream and took her seat at the table. She took a long sip and sighed. Yes, today was definitely a hot cocoa day. She looked around the room, smiling at Damon as she did so. She waited for several minutes to make sure everyone had arrived, then began. "Thank you for coming. I was called down to the Jenefran High Council this morning for a matter of some urgency." She paused for a moment and continued. "Last night, King Mrowen was assassinated. Keelan, the former Vizier, is now ruler of Jenefra."

"I don't mean to sound insensitive," Arnon said. "But how does this affect our relationship with the Jenefrans and our mission here? The Vizier seemed somewhat...Machiavellian I believe is a term the Humans use. I'd hate for us to get too wrapped up in his schemes."

Damion let out a sigh and shook his head. "Because of how it was done, Lieutenant." He said sternly as he looked around. "The King was murdered by a particular poison, which the new King Keelan, is labeling as Federation in origin. Putting aside the suspicion that the former Vizier would know the difference between a Federation and Non-Federation poison having limited contact with us, he is also claiming one of ours is the assassin. Diplomatically, Lieutenant Barak, this looks bad on us. I would imagine this affects our relationship very badly. Wouldn't you?"

"I would have to agree," Arnon replied. "Thank you Lieutenant Wolfe for filling me in."

Damion nodded, but didn't look away yet. "After the meeting, Counselor, I could use your help with something. If you don't mind."

"Absolutely," Arnon replied.

Drani leaned forward. She now knew something definitely wasn't right. "Is it possible for me to examine the King's body to determine the type of poison, amount, and delivery method?"

"No," Sam said. "We have a blood sample. I'm trying to get them to let us examine the body."

T'Pral spoke flatly, "This appears to merely highlight their unreadiness to become members of the Federation. Assuming we are not the perpetrators, their government is too unstable. Indeed, given we are being blamed, it seems they no longer wish to join the Federation."

"I agree." Damion added, shaking his head slightly. "There is nothing for them to benefit from joining the Federation when one of its members killed your predecessor. Keelan didn't show a hint of natural hesitation blaming us. Nor did he show any sign of wanting to be wrong. He wants us to be to blame."

"I do think you forgot one aspect of this." Munich interjected. "The Ve- King Keelaqn said it was synthetic; they use poisons that were not artificial. We are the ones who make things artificially and ..." Munich went to point out. "If one of our people is suspected why not presume it is a Federation Poison just on those two factors. Keelan did not break out contact after what looks like a political assassination; the Federation might not hvae been so easy to allow a potential group to clear their names." He continued. "King Keelan is being hospitiable in allowing us to continue diplomatic channels and has not barred us ffrom the planet. If roles were reversed what would the Federationn have done to protect the new administration per tiem from what could be a 'hostile' race who came offering the twig of peace and suspected to have killed our leader?"
