[CONTINUED]

[OLD]

"I do think you forgot one aspect of this." Munich interjected. "The Ve- King Keelaqn said it was synthetic; they use poisons that were not artificial. We are the ones who make things artificially and ..." Munich went to point out. "If one of our people is suspected why not presume it is a Federation Poison just on those two factors. Keelan did not break out contact after what looks like a political assassination; the Federation might not hvae been so easy to allow a potential group to clear their names." He continued. "King Keelan is being hospitiable in allowing us to continue diplomatic channels and has not barred us ffrom the planet. If roles were reversed what would the Federationn have done to protect the new administration per tiem from what could be a 'hostile' race who came offering the twig of peace and suspected to have killed our leader?"

[NEW]

"Commander. I can name you a few species off the top of my head that use artificially created poisons. Saying the Federation is the only ones who use synthetic poisons is like accusing a Klingon of stabbing someone simple on the bases that he has a bladed weapon. Its to broad to directly point to one specific person or species. With the sample of blood with the poison we can determine what it was, its effects, and if its been used before by a species we are familiar with. Including our own. However, there is no way of telling if its a genuine sample or just one they gave us that leads exactly where they want us to go." He paused slightly before adding. "We aren't the only species the Jenefran's have had contact with. They are a warp capable species. There is no telling who they have come in contact with recently that may also have the capability to produce and distribute the poison." Damion stated, looking around the room.

"Also.." He continued. "All we have is his word its even the former King's blood. We are given this sample, we didn't take it ourselves, so its all second hand. There is no telling how much the scene has been contaminated. The more time that's passed, the harder it is to collect and examine whats there that could potentially exonerate Tate or prove that she did it. "

The Vulcan engineer's neatly folded hands opened and closed. "All the more reason to discontinue proceedings into membership. Investigating the crime should be our top priority. After which, the determination of their ineligibility would be a simple matter."

Damion looked over to T'Pral before focusing on Sam. "I agree. We halted diplomatic talks before. Recently in fact with the delegates from Octurius Prime and Paneria Seven. We should hold off the diplomatic talks now and get to the bottom of whether or not a Federation officer is truly responsible for the death of their last King."

Drani was now more stern. "I can determine the type of poison used without a sample with poison. All I need is a sample of his blood and I can make a diagnosis from trace amounts remaining in his bloodstream or at very least damage done to the King's blood cells."

"It was my understanding the Same blood they sampled was given to us; taken from Da King." Munich informed. "SO the type of poison should be in the blood sample he gave us." Munich pointed out what Keelan has said. There was blood drawn for their sampling and we were given blood from the same samples to test." He pointed out. "It was also noted the poison was 'unknown to them." Munich pointed out. "That was one of the reasons he emphasized needing us to confirm it. As the Federation are the ones suspected ; Tate being held as a suspect does put a logical notion this was of Federation design into light. I should also point out that none of those races that use Artificial Poisons are 'IN' this situation at the moment so the point is an exaggeration of facts. We should concentrate on the facts we have and not taint our possibilities with unneeded suppositions." Munich concluded. "WE have samples and access to the scene, work with that and then expand to outside interference if evidence warrants?"

Sam raised a hand to get everyone's attention. "I have a sample of the blood and it will be sent to medical for analysis. From what we've seen so far, the Jenefrans do not use artificial toxins and Commander Tate was in the palace last night. So, it is logical for them to suspect her. We are going to continue with the primary reason for being here, that is, we are going to look into this conflict between the Jenefrans and the Qunari and the disappearance of the Princess. I believe these events are related to the death of the King. At the same time, a team will be investigating the murder and Jennifer's involvement. I don't think she did it, but the Prime Directive forbids us from violating planetary laws so we have to proceed with caution."

Drani sat back, silent. She wasn't happy with the way everyone was conducting themselves. She wondered what was going on between the XO and Arnon as that was the second time she had heard the XO speak unprofessional to Arnon, which was inexcusable in her opinion and showed poor leadership. She also wasn't happy with the chain of custody that the poison was making. It should have been given to herself or a member of her staff immediately, not a non-medical personnel, even the Commodore. A part of her wondered what, if any, job she had aboard this ship.

Arnon could feel Victoria seething, and felt compassion for her. Arnon wanted Victoria to feel professionally fulfilled, to feel useful. This was vital to the emotional and psychological well being of most species. Professionally, Victoria was a highly intelligent and talented physician, healer, and medical scientist. Given enough rein, she would produce impressive results. Arnon would make sure that he was assigned to work with her in this next phase of the investigation and would do his best to make sure that she had the opportunity to shine. And he'd try to cheer her up personally as soon as possible. A walk in the Arboretum perhaps? That was their first date. Dancing? That was their second. Both options seemed good to him. He'd choose later. Ah, and they still needed to find time to get together with the kids! Carlos mentioned that he'd crossed paths with Victoria's younger sister Jae at the Academy. Rhiannon had graduated by then, but he felt they would all get along. But these were things for later. For now, back to the briefing.
