ON
Samantha had been up late, playing with the potted plant Kali gave her. She'd finally figured out the key to the message. When the pot was soaked in water, it disintegrated, leaving the plant -- which was quickly repotted -- and a paper-like substance that, when dry, revealed a message. It was quite ingenious and Sam took careful notes so that she could reproduce it at some future date.
She was curled up to Damon when her comm chirped an incoming message.
"Commodore." Keelan said with thew diplomatic formality. "We have a situation at the Capitol and it requires your attention as Commanding Officer of the delegation." He gave the proper open expression with no hint as to what is going on? "Could you come to the capitol with all haste?"
"On my way. York out." Sam kissed Damon. "I need to go back to the planet. Want to come with me?" she asked. By the tone of Keelan's voice, Sam knew there was something wrong, but she wasn't sure what it was, which made it hard for her to know exactly who to take down to the planet with her.
She dressed quickly and notified security and Commander Munich to meet her in the transporter room.
Damon rolled out of bed and rubbed his eyes. He stole a glance at the chronometer before sighing. "Well, at least we can dispense with the dress uniforms."
"Oh, definitely!" she agreed. "I'm glad you're coming with me."
Munich was on the Bridge in the Chair to the right of the center; the one for the Executive Officer; while the Commodore was aboard he would not take her seat; that would be rude and uncalled for so he was far more comfortable in the chair he occupied.
When the Commodore request he reported to the Transporter Room he had taken the highest-ranking Officer; the Operations Officer, and made his way to his office to get a standard Sidearm as is procedure before making his way to the Transporter Room. While in his office he took out a necklace and put it around his neck; he had the feeling this might come in handy. It was another transporter enhancer that was disguised by Munich's design for away missions like this.
Sam walked into the transporter room, accompanied by Damon and two Ensigns. "Good," she said to Hans. "Let's see what the news is this time. I have a feeling it won't be good."
"Certainly seems to be trending that way." Damon said as he walked in behind the Commodore.
Damion walked in, giving everyone a quick nod before stepping onto the pad. "Any idea whats going on, Captain?" He asked, looking over to York.
"No," Sam replied. "I only know it's urgent."
They stepped on the transporter pad and beamed down to the planet. Instead of materializing in the reception area, they appeared in the council chamber itself.
The King's Council was present, but there was no sign of King Mrowen.
Sam could see the tension on the faces of the council members. "Mr. Keelan, what is the nature of the situation?"
Keelan move to a better vantage point at the cent point of a long table for the counsil with a high back and ornate chair, much more fancy than all the others. Standing Keelan let it be easy to see the new weight he had to carry, standing very straight and his expression one of cold but diplomatic fashion he raised his head slightly as the crown caught the light. Upon his head was the head dress of a monarch.
"We have asked you here as a matter of diplomatic courtesy." Keelan said as he met eyes with the Federation Commodore. "Our King was assassinated last night. We have reason to suspect it was done by someone we hoped as an ally." He said in even tone. "Our King was died from a synthetic poison not of our world or known to us. You might see the situation; you come to our world and our Princess is taken and our King killed by methods not known to us. We believe it prudent to restrain thesuspect for questioning and I am reporting that to you officially."
Sam took Damon's hand and squeezed it. Keelan's new position was clear, even if he didn't state it. She didn't like it. "Murdered?" By someone they hoped was an ally...someone who stayed on the planet...who wasn't at this meeting..."Jennifer Tate?"
"She is being held at the moment waiting to be questioned." Keelan said. "The poison is not local and we are having it analyzed and in a couple of hours we will have a better chemical break-down of the poison's used and will send it to you as you might be more aware of it's origins?"
"I would like a sample now, if I may," Sam said. "You have a sample to test, I would like a sample before you break it down so that I may run my own tests. And I would like to see what evidence you have to believe that Tate is the murderer."
"What's the motive?" Damion said sternly. "You have evidence which you assume leads to our officer, but there is nothing to gain by Tate, of us for that matter, by killing your King."
"That is what we are here to discover, Lieutenant Wolfe," Sam said quietly.
Keelan motioned for the small vile of blood to be taken to the Federation Officer. "That is a blood sample from the King." He explained. "We took a sample of the blood before processing, it is the same blood drawas our analysis has used but a separate vile of course...." He paused for effect. "we broke it down for analysis. This sample was set aside knowing you would want to run verification." He had a diplomatic expression. "Plus we believe it is a Federation poison so you would have the best chance of verifying that as well." He tilt his head slightly as he tried not to seem haughty. "I trust I will get the true report of the poison's origin even if it is as we suspect and a Federation produced product?"
