Point of View
Location: Captains Ready Room

Leroy left sickbay, bypassed the wing bay, then made his way to the brain of the Calypso. Holding a padd he walked around the back of the bridge, looking to see if the Commodore was in the big chair. "Commodore, a word?"
"Of course," Sam said. She stood and turned to the senior officer on the bridge. "I'll be in my Ready Room."
She nodded to Leroy. "Come with me."
Once they were both in her Ready Room, she indicated the chair opposite her desk and sat down. "What can I do for you?"
Stepping forward he handed in his finals, which had been completed during his bout on Gekkaro IV with the other fighters. "Thought you might want to send this in to be graded including my final dissertation."
Sam looked them over briefly and smiled. "I do indeed. Good job on completing your coursework. If you pass -- and I assume you will -- I'll see about fast tracking your promotion. You definitely deserve it."
"There's no need to fast track it Ma'am," Leroy said somberly. "There's still one or two more things Starfleet will need from you and me just to ok making me an officer. They might even be a little reluctant to do so. Not many Master Sergeants make department head, so I'm something of a poster boy for the enlisted corps."
"Still, you deserve the promotion," Sam said. "Master Sergeants don't often become officers, either."
"No, we generally think that we've gone as far as we're likely to go." Grabbing a canteen from his hip, he took a sip, then replaced it. "There is one other thing Commodore, and I need to ask this as one person to another not as a subordinate to his Commanding Officer."
"Okay, what's your question?" she asked.
"I know there is a policy against Enlisted members in Starfleet becoming romantically involved with senior officers, or really anyone who is an officer. Is there an issue with it aboard this ship?" Leroy wanted to come out and say he was scared beyond all belief, but just couldn't find the words to do so. "I'm not asking this correctly..."
"You're asking fine," Sam assured him. "My policy is that as long as it doesn't affect your work, there is no problem with officers and enlisted personnel becoming romantically involved. We have enough to deal with on the Calypso, I am not going to mandate with whom you fall in love."
"Well, if that isn't a relief," Leroy said smiling. "Is there anything you need from me before you send in the results?"
"No. You and your fighters did a great job in the Gekkaro System. Thank you. Now take some time to relax," Sam said.
"Thank you for that Ma'am. Is there a chance that we're going to be called back to 001 at any time? I think it would do us all some good and the ship may need a refit after Gekkaro."
"We'll stop at a starbase for a week for some repairs. I'll check with Starfleet Command about when we need to head home for a refit," Sam said. "Thanks for the reminder."
"That's my job Ma'am, and we need a couple days to rearm as well. I want to see if anyone has come up with a new micro-torpedo for the fighters. Sometimes these just don't work correctly." Smiling he took a sip from his canteen and checked the chrono. "If there's nothing else Ma'am, I need to get on duty."
"There's nothing else. You're dismissed," Sam said. She couldn't help smiling at her Flight Leader's eagerness to get back to work. "Let me know if there's anything else you need."
Nodding, Leroy left the Ready Room, and then the bridge. Duty now that they were going to a starbase, and hopefully to 001 for some refits, was going to be sitting in his office, doing after action reports and trying to make sure that no one tried to really hurt anyone else during training.
