The End of the Matter (part 1)

Timeline: After "Caught -- for real!"

Jayna was both pleased and impressed by what she found on Li Kara's laptop. The woman was very good with computers. Her skills were impressive, even by Jayna's standards. She would have enjoyed spending weeks digging through the various packets and spiders but there wasn't time, so she created a sandbox on Horus to dump all the data where she could use her own programs to sift through everything and organize it so she could better find what she was looking for. Still, she knew it would take her months to truly understand the depth of the infiltration into the Calypso's computer.

She found half a dozen names of people Li Kara worked with on the ship, though why there were so many she wasn't sure. Hopefully Remy would be able to get that information from Kara herself. She glanced up at the chronometer. He was supposed to be interrogating the woman now. She glanced back at her work and figured she might learn something if she headed over to the the interrogation room to watch.

Jayna slipped into the observation booth next to Logan and couldn't help giving his hand a squeeze as she did so.

"I'm surprised you're not in there." Logan asked softly as he crossed his arms over his chest.

That comment surprised Jayna, as did his pulling away. She would have to ask him what was wrong later.

Li Kara had just beamed into the room as Jayna made herself comfortable.

Kara materialized into the room finding herself bound to a chair. She squirmed only for a moment quickly finding out her struggles were futile. She bowed her head as she realized she was defeated, but even more so her family was not assuredly dead. Morat had warned her prior to the mission the cost of failure, now she would bare witness to that cost. Death would be her only release now.

She remained quiet in the room, head bowed as she hoped it would find her soon.

"Sorry we had to stop you from killing yourself, but we find it better to question people while they are still breathing. The whole death thing kind of spoils some investigations." Damion said as he looked down to the PADD before focusing back on Kara.

"But, feel free to kill yourself when we are done, Miss Kara. I am sure, if you don't do it, Morat will find her own way." Remy said coldly as he walked over to the table and looked at Kara. His gaze was equally as cold. He had no sympathy or care for this woman. "I'll happily provide your weapon of choice."

"I HAD my weapon of choice," she replied coldly. "You took them from me." And now, not only was she dead, so was her family.

The woman's fear and anxiety was so great that Jayna picked up on it from the other room. "Logan, did you get that?" she asked. She quickly sent a message to Horus to get Max to find the woman's family and take them to safety, if there was still time. If Max could move in the next hour, he might be able to save the family, and with the family safe, the woman might be willing to talk.

Horus responded a minute later. "Jayna, Admiral Hunter went after her family the moment he got her name. I regret to inform you that they have been dead for over a year."

Jayna glanced at Logan, saddened by the news. "Thank you, Horus. And thank Admiral Hunter."

Leave it to Max to be one step ahead of them. Jayna reached out telepathically to Batiste. "Remy, Li's family was killed over a year ago. A suspicious shuttle accident."

Remy heard Jayna and quickly picked up a PADD, bringing up the data from the investigation. He paused for a moment and looking through the information before handing it to Damion.

"I imagine Morat is a very dangerous person. She could go through fire just to get to you." Damion said as he looked at what was on the PADD. "But, you see, people like Morat don't need to touch you in order to break you." He placed the PADD, face up on the table and slid it to Li's, revealing the crime scene photos of her families murder. "How long did she lead you to believe they were safe in her hands? Months? Days? Years? Couldn't have been long. Notice the date"

Li's lip quivered as she absorbed the news but part of her had expected as much. Her hope that the sadistic woman would keep her family alive was but a pipe dream, now she had nothing to truly live for. She looked back up at Jayna. "Then kill me now and be done with it." she said.

"People like Morat are driven by control. In order to get said control, they leave their followers into false notions of security and safety. Lying to them. Manipulating them. Forcing them to see their point of view. Leading them into the fire so they don't have to. You're a pawn." Remy said as he slammed his hand onto the table. "You know what the interesting thing about pawn's is? If they make it to the end of the board they are allow to be a stronger piece. Like a Queen or a Knight. You have an oppurtunity here, Miss Kara. Help us get justice for your family. For the ones effected for Morat. For you. Help us bring her down to her knees. Prove to her you are not her pawn and that you are a stronger piece on this board."

"There is no justice for them."

"There is if you help us, Li. Morat is responsible for this. She may have used someone else to do the dirty work, but its her orders that killed your family. She is the real monster here, not you. You're just another piece to her. You mean nothing to her." Damion said firmly.

"It's too late for that," Li said stoically. "Just kill me and be done with it."

Remy walked away and moved over to the two way mirror where Logan and Jayna stood on the other side. "It's too late, Wolfe. She is blinded by her Stockholm. Li has been under for so long that all she see's is duty to Morat. She doesn't care about her family. All she care's about is service to Morat."

Li Just glared at Remy.
