Mission:
The Devils Snare
Location: Orion
Timeline: current
ON
Everything was finally back to normal and the Captain had given the order to head to Typhon Starbase.
Ronnie, who was on the bridge again because Sam had taken the day off, noticed a ship moving through the ship graveyard.
"Commander, I think we have a live one!"
Sheridan looked at the view screen."Helm bring the ship about, all weapons systems online and bring the ship to Red alert please."
"Aye, Sir."
"Open a hailing channel to that vessel."
"All weapons manned and ready sir.."
Commander Sheridan waited as communications were being attempted...
"There's no response to our hails, sir," comm replied.
"Can we identify the vessel?" Sheridan was getting highly annoyed with these Pirates..
Montgomery drew breath, "Something doesn't seem right, I knew we were getting out of this too easily. Science, full sensor sweep..."
Ronnie scanned the ships caught in the planet's orbit. "It's Federation, sir. The USS Spectre. Nova class. The markings don't match Starfleet records."
"If that doesn't start alarm bells nothing will" said Montgomery pausing for thought. "Pull up records on any missing Nova Class vessels. At least she shouldn't be a match for Orion if it comes to it."
Ronnie nodded and began to search. She tied her search into the science database. In less than a minute she had an answer for the Captain. "The USS Nostradamus disappeared a year ago. They were in a nearby sector at the time of their disappearance. As they were studying an unstable anomaly it was assumed the ship was destroyed."
Shinga reported for her duty a little late today, so when she stepped on the bridge she had no idea what was happening.
"Captain, is that the Nostradamus I'm seeing?" she queried
Montgomery rounded on his new Security Chief, "now how the devil did you know that?" he asked.
"Some things you just don't want to know, sir. No disrespect, but just don't ask."
Alexandra Adeyemon entered the bridge with speed. She'd left her Assistant in Charge of Engineering when she decided she may be needed up here. "Anyone need an Engineer?" She said casually as she moved to her station at the side of the bridge.
The Spectre -- or Nostradamus -- drifted closer to the Orion. When it got close, the ship seemed to come to life.
"Captain, they're powering up a plasma beam," Ronnie said, shocked. "A Romulan plasma beam."
"Raising shields" said Shinga
The ship fired, rocking the Orion's bridge. Sparks showered from a console. "Those sure as hell aren't standard Nova weapons" Yelled Montgomery, "Thrax, take their weapons out, all stations damage report."
..:: Lounge ::..
Ted was behind the bar, trying not to fall over onto his hurt leg. One particularly violent jarring threw him to the floor and caused the glasses to come crashing down to the floor where Ted lay. He curled into a ball and held his arms over his head, squeezing his eyes tight. He sat up and shook the glass out of his hair and off his body. "Sh**. Some quiet mission this is turning out to be."
..:: Sickbay ::..
Leanne was attending three patients from the planet, all were in stable condition, and suddenly she felt herself get off-balance when the ship shook. She landed on the floor with her hands out to protect herself when she fell. "What the hell? Are we in a war again?" She got up and noticed some bruises on her elbow. "Probably pirates...", she said while she was inspecting her elbow and not expecting someone to answer her.
..::Bridge::..
"Shields are down to 50%," Ronnie reported. "The Spectre's weapon is offline. It will take them several minutes to recharge."
"Open a channel" said Montgomery walking round to the tactical station to join Shinga. "This Is Captain James Motgomery of the Federation Starship Orion, state your identity"
There was no reponse. Montgomery signaled for the channel to be closed.
As illegaly obtained Starfleet ship, I want to take it back to Typhoon with us, I'll take any suggestions as to how we go about it.
Ronnie looked at the Captain. "Perhaps a Marine boarding party? Or we'll need to shut down their power and tractor them. I think everyone on the away team is taking the day off, though. That would include the Marine CO." Ronnie checked the computer. "Yes. It shows Lieutenant Raine as off duty right now."
She watched her scanners for a moment. "Whatever you do, sir, do it quickly. Their powering up the plasma cannon and I don't think our shields can withstand another hit."
"We cant afford anyone Off Duty right now" said Montgomery, "Get them ready to roll, and in the meantime, I want a precise hits on their weapons, sensors, and shield generators."
Alex looked up from her position at the Engineering console. She didn't feel the need to take the day off. "I can have those weapons offline in a heartbeat, Captain."
Shinga nodded, and said:
"Shields up. Photon torpedoes loaded. Phaser ready at your command, sir."
Damon and Samantha had been catching up on some much-needed sleep when the ship was hit. The jolt had them up and scrambling to get back into uniform and to their duty stations.
Samantha made her way to the bridge to work with Ronnie.
Damon, wearing some newly replicated fatigues, jogged to the Marine barracks. His head throbbed with every step, and he became aware of the fact that he was still technically on restricted duty due to his head wound. Moreover, he was due to check in with the doctor hours ago to finally get an examination and have the wound properly treated. ~No rest for the wicked~
He thought grimly as the doors parted to the barracks.
"Sit rep!" He yelled as entered the room. He was handed a PADD by a Private that detailed what was happening. He quickly read over the information. "Alright." He spoke loud enough for everyone to hear. "First platoon, Charlie and Delta, dress up. Also, Alpha and Bravo from the Fourth platoon. Both sections report to hanger one, right now. Second platoon, you are on deck. Let’s move Marines!" The dismissed Marines quickly scattered to their respected assignments.
[Bridge]
"Two minutes to weapon charge, Captain," Ronnie said.
Sheridan was getting very concerned as the Orion may not survive another hit. "Captain Montgomery, I suggest we maneuver and attack before the enemy powers up. Or warp out of here as fast as possible."
"We're not going anywhere" said Montgomery, his voice full of grit.
"Weapons are ready at your command, sir." Thrax stated.
John turned to York, "Sam I'll try to buy some time for you to get the Nova's code. Helm Thirty degrees hard port. People we're gonna Scoot and shoot, Thrax give that nova everything we got" The Orion immediately responded to Sheridan's orders and shifted over hard to port
"I'll get on it right away," Sam said. She immediately began to search the database for the command codes for the USS Nostradamus.
"Target the shields" Montgomery indicated to the Tactical station, "Where are our Marines, they need to be ready to move the second theres a gap. Commander Sheridan, get kitted up and head over with them, take who ever you think they need.
Sheridan nodded "Yes sir" and took off at a run for the weapons locker. He needed to get to Hanger One as fast as possible."
"Plasma weapon is fully charged. Brace for impact," Ronnie said, holding on.
A moment later, the Orion was hit again. The ship rocked hard, knocking people to the ground.
"Samantha got to her feet and checked the Ops station. "Shields are down. One more hit and we're dead."
She continued her search and located the command codes for the Nostradamus. In a minute, she'd used the comm channel to send a signal to the other ship, cutting all its power.
Five minutes later, the Spectre was back at full power. Sam tried to send the signal again, but someone on the other end had blocked her access. The Spectre was moving away from the Orion and into the ring of dead ships.
Sheridan turned to the Conn Officer "Turn the ship about, set course for Starbase Typhon, prepare to depart at once. Op's notify Fleet in regards to the Spectre...
Several minutes later the Orion was at full warp speed out of the the sector to make for repairs at the Starbase. They would get the Spectre another day, Hopefully soon.
