1,082 words; about a 5 minute read

Mission: Of Gods and Men
Location: Counselor's Office
Timeline: Current

ON:

Damion walked down in his new Security Uniform. He wasn't entirely comfortable with being the new Chief of Security, but he was even more so uncomfortable with Lieutenant Rembrandt Batiste being in that position. He didn't trust the little man. He had a reputation of being shady and annoying. Not to mention there was little, to nothing, about his large Caitian house pet. The two of them made Damion very cautious. However, the good thing is Damion at least had a good idea as to how they thought and worked which probably gave him a bit of a heads up on dealing with the two. He stopped at the door and hit the chime, letting out a bit of a sigh before adjusting his uniform again out of discomfort.

"Come in please, Lieutenant Wolfe," Chief Petty Officer Markus Ileos said. "You're here to see Doctor Barak aren't you?"

There was a large stuffed animal gorilla taking up one of the seats in the waiting area.

"Pardon Mongo over there," the Chief said. "He's...well...let's just say we see some strange things in this office."

"I don't think its the office, Pal, its the ship." Damion said as he sat down in the chair and leaned back. He paused for a moment before looking over to the stuffed animal with a raised brow. "So... You come here often? Is it an eating thing or self-esteem?" He looked away to look around the officer before looking back to the stuffed animal and smirking. "You wouldn't happen to be related to big ape named Krang would you? He's a bit of a chunky monkey too."

Arnon came out of his office and saw Damion.

"Ah...Lieutenant Wolfe I presume?" he said. "I'm Doctor Arnon Barak. I see you're getting on with Mongo here. He doesn't say much, but he's a good listener. Why don't you come back into my office."

"Are you sure?" Damion said as he pointed to Mongo with a serious look. "He was here before me. Shouldn't it be a take a number kind of thing or do you work by a different system?"

"Mongo is beyond even my help," Arnon said. "Come on back."

Damion nodded and he placed his hand on the arm of the stuffed monkey and let out a sigh. "Sorry, Mongo Man. Maybe we can grab a drink later. Something with banana for you. Catch you later." He stood up and walked over to Arnon.

Arnon led Damion back to his office.

"Have seat," he said. "Can I get you anything to drink?"

Damion nodded as he sat down and leaned back in the chair. "I just had a one sided conversation with a stuffed animal. Drinking is probably something I should have done before I came here." He let out a laugh before clearing his throat and continuing. "Coffee. Black. Three sugars. Please."

Arnon ordered up the coffee and a glass of black cherry seltzer with ice for himself. He brought the coffee over and then returned to his seat across from Damion.

"So," Arnon said. "I understand that you've just returned from a very difficult mission. I have clearance to counsel intelligence officers, so you can speak freely."

Damion took a hold of the mug by the handle and smirked a bit before taking a sip and replying. "If I see one, I'll be sure to inform them." He said as he placed the mug down and leaned back in the chair. "I'm kidding. Yes. I, as well as Lieutenant Lancaster, returned from a deep cover mission on a ship called the Night Star. A ship I started on and was recently classified and rouge and dangerous." He paused for a moment, taking a sip of his coffee before looking over to Arnon curiously. "How is Ronnie? Did you see her yet? Has she come to see you?"

"I can't discuss my other clients with you, Lieutenant," Arnon replied. "Unfortunately, if you'd like an answers to those questions you will need to ask Lieutenant Lancaster. I know the lieutenant is important to you, and we can discuss your thoughts and feelings regarding her, but I cannot discuss whether or not she's been to see me or what she and I discuss if she has been here. Let's get back to you. How do you feel that you are doing since returning to the Calypso?"

"Of course you can't." Damion replied, looking around the office for a moment before look back to Arnon. "Why bother asking when your responses are always the same? I swear that most of you Counselors are trained by us than Medical. You know most of right answers to give in order to avoid questions." He said with a light chuckle before clearing his throat a bit before continuing. "Besides, I am sure it wouldn't take me long to get into your confidential notes. I know a beautiful red head who knows how to walk through firewalls." He gave him a stern and cold look before quickly shifting it to a smile. "I'm joking."

"Of course," Arnon replied. "I believe you were about to tell me how you felt you were doing since you returned to the Calypso."

"Was I?" Damion replied, smirking a bit. "I must have missed that question." He laughed slightly before leaning back in the chair and taking in a deep breath before focusing back to Arnon. "Relieved. Glad to be back, mostly. Mainly for Ronnie's sake than mine. I don't think she would have been able to tolerate the lifestyle like I have. More so, because I know she is safe. She doesn't have to look over he shoulder or wonder if the next person she see's is going to be a friend or a foe. I love her knowing she is safe, regardless of whether I know she is safe for the simple fact that she is with me."

"And how do you feel that you are adjusting to being back from your undercover assignment?" Arnon asked.

"Not entirely at ease, but happy to be home." Damion replied, running his hand through his hair before continuing. "There is still one thing to do that hasn't been done yet. A promise to keep." He paused for a moment as he leaned back against the cushion. "I find myself conflicted with it, honestly."

"Tell me more," Arnon replied.
