The Devils Snare

ON
The away team was back on the Orion, but the ship wasn't out of the woods yet. The pirates were still on the planet, and the ones in the brig had come from somewhere, but they weren't talking. Not yet, anyway.
Commander Sheridan was in the shuttle bay inspecting the bodies of previously living pirates...
[Sickbay]
Doctor Bowen was glad to be back on board the ship and away from being pointed at by a gun. She looked down at Ensign J'trey on the biobed after putting her instruments down on a near-by tray. "Everything is put together. You certainly had some broken ribs and a small hairline fracture in your jaw. It amazes me that Cardassians can tolerate pain very well. You can go now, but it is doctor's orders that you remain off duty for 24 hours...get lots of rest."
"Do I have to?" Bak'ten said with a small hint of sadness in his voice. "Nothing really calms me more than my work."
Shina was there as well, and she comforted her Security Investigations officer:
"Don't worry Ensign, you can use your time off to help me interrogate those pirate bastards. Because I WILL get them to talk. I always get what I want."
Bak'ten perked up immediately. "We have them onboard?" He said, standing up quickly. He then winced in pain, clinging his ribs. He sat back down on the biobed. Also nursing the spot on his arm, where he was shot.
Leanne shook her head, "You got to take it easy. Move slowly would be better than trying to take off running." She looked at Shina. "It would be best if you could keep an eye on him," she said with a quick smile.
[Marine Barracks]
Sergeant Kara Melo was happy to be back on the Orion. Her first order of business was to clean and secure her weapon. It had been a lifesaver on the planet. Then she headed for the Marine deck to shower and change into a clean pair of BDUs. It had been an intense few days and she, for one, was looking forward to a hot meal and some time in her rack.
It was a similar story with Daniella Ried. She has patched up her share of Marines and Starfleet officers on this last away mission. Despite having washed her hands a number of times, she couldn't shake that feeling of her comrade's sticky blood remaining on her hands and skin. The idea of a fresh change and a sonic shower was all she could think about once back on board. She met up with the Sergeant at the barracks.
"Good to clean up, isn't it Sir?" She asked.
Kara grinned. "Most definitely," she agreed. "I'm going to get clean and then I'll decide if I want food or sleep more. Either way, I'm happy to be back in once piece. How about you?"
"Heh." she quickly laughed. "I need to clean this sticky feeling off me." She opened and closed her hands a number of times with a grimace to punctuate the point. "After that I’m heading to the lounge. Apparently the rest of First platoon wants to buy us all a drink. You should come."
Kara thought about that for a moment. "Yea, maybe I should. It sounds like fun." A few drinks with the guys would be a great way to unwind.
Daniella nodded. "Good, because those bastards in Green squad deserve to pay up anyways. They all have this god complex, and I'm looking forward to rubbing in their face that Red and Blue are bloodied now." She held a devious smile. "Besides," she said, smile vanishing after a moment "We lost two Marines. That's worth a drink."
Kara nodded. "It's worth two drinks. We toast both of them. They died honorably and deserve nothing less." She was sober for a moment, remembering. "Then we need to celebrate the fact that we held the hostages and would have beaten them back without reinforcements."
Some of her smile returned at the thought of holding the line against a vastly larger enemy force. "Oohrah Sir." She held her hand out her fist in an informal props.
Kara returned the gesture. "And to you. You did well down there."
"You scratch, I patch." Daniella grinned at her personal motto.
That made Kara laugh. "I like that, Private." She grabbed her clothes. "Let's get cleaned up and make them pay for as many drinks as we can."
"Now THAT I can appreciate, Sir" Private Reid said, following the Sergeant out.
[Lounge]
Ted looked at Toras and the other girls, sizing up their trauma. Toras was doing fine, of course; she was Andorian and her people were a proud race of warriors. Her thermal suit had ripped and she was starting to overheat judging by the dark blue in her cheeks. Jamie was just fine; she was the experienced wife of a Starfleet enlisted and knew what to do. But the other two concerned Ted. Jemma was a little shaken. She seemed perfectly normal though, next to Nikki; Nikki, an eighteen-year-old girl, was absolutely hysterical. Toras was trying to calm her down, but it wasn't working.
Ted sighed and tapped his commbadge. =A= Turner to Bridge. Any news on our uninvited guests? =A=
