Mission:
The Devils Snare
Location: Planetside
ON
[OLD]
Damon's first shot went wild of his target; the second however caught him on his chest. The target stumbled back a step before falling limp to the ground. He quickly found his next mark. The carbine swept to the right and he squeezed the trigger launching deadly bolts of fire at the pirate. He must have anticipated it as he quickly found cover. Damon was forced to duck again as another gout of fire was aimed at him. More of his cover was blasted away. He stole a glance over to the Marine on his right. His SAWP had been set up and began to unleash hell from behind cover. The SAWP ripped up the ground in front of the enemy. Chunks of earth were blasted away as the weapon eagerly searched out a victim. A fallen log literally blasted apart under its fire and the person behind it was struck hard, he fell to the ground without another sound.

With grim determination Damon lifted his weapon once again and fired. A target started to rush forward to look for better ground, Damon`s carbine answered the movement with three rounds all of which connected. The Man fell in a heap creating a plume of leaves to rise from the ground.
Suddenly the Marine to the left of Damon let out a yelp. Damon looked over to see him fall to the ground clutching his shoulder. It wasn't a look of pain he was giving, but rather a look of disgust almost as if getting shot was nothing more than an inconvenience. His eyes burned with indignation as he lifted his arm carefully back over his cover. Two pirates chose that moment to run out from behind their cover, vying for better ground. The Marine quickly acquired his targets and fired his carbine on a three round burst. Both pirates were knocked down, neither got back up.
Kara used the distraction to send two of her team around to the back of the pirates. A flanking move seemed appropriate at this point. As soon as they were safely away, she began to blast the opposite cliff face as a distraction while Marshall launched more grenades. He found a nest of snipers and launched a volley of three grenades, two landed directly in the nest, one body was seen flying over the short wall and down the cliff. A fire broke out, adding a reddish glow to the battle below.
The injured Marines arm burned with a throbbing pain, he could feel warm blood coursing down his side from the wound. Still, he refused to give up, they might be outnumbered but those pirates were pitted against Marines and nothing would match their tenacity in a pitched battle. A grim smile stretched across his face, the odds weren’t that uneven in his books.
Suddenly, beside him, his field radio crackled to life, a sound he hadn’t heard in a number of days since landing on the surface. He quickly looked down to it and checked its system status; it registered a very weak link to a Starfleet broadband.
Fortunately, the concentrated fire and deadly accuracy of his fellow Marines gave the pirates pause. To ensure the enemy stayed dug in the Marine fired his rifle a number of times into the woods before leaning down and testing the weak connection.
“Orion, this is Red Alpha Two, please respond.â€
Sheridan paused, then stepped to the operations console. "This is the Orion what’s your status?"
The static distorted the incoming message a bit, but the words still came through loud and clear to the Marine. “Good to hear you Orion.†He said enthusiastically “Please standby.â€
Damon noticed the Marine no longer was engaged in the fight, but rather had his interest diverted to the field radio. His spirits lifted as he dared to hope communications were open again with the Orion. He kept his eyes on the forest in front of him firing a steady line of fire until the Marine yelled out his name. Carefully he made his way over to the injured Marine holding the radio.
“Orion on standby!†He said once Damon fell in beside him. The Marine then gingerly lifted his rifle back over the log and began firing into the woods.
“This is Lieutenant Raine.†He announced as he kept his head down.
"Lieutenant what is your status," He looked to Op's. I need scans now, Find where they are and let's get a away team deployed."
Kara heard the crackle of the radio and paused for a moment. The Orion? She thought. Talk about the cavalry coming! She grinned at Marshall and emptied another clip laying groundcover to make sure the Commander had time to call for help. Reinforcements would nail these buggers to the wall in no time.
Marshall, in turn, launched another volley of grenades into a group of pirates. The fools thought they were safe standing behind a tree.
Just then another group was taken off-guard by the two Kara had sent around behind. The fight was brief and her team victorious. She grinned again and looked around for more pirates. At the moment, there were none, so she continued to watch carefully. She suspected they were still out there, regrouping and waiting for her to slip up. But she wasn't about to give them the satisfaction.
