Of Gods and Men
Location: Holodeck 3

It had been a long work shift; Michelle had been settling in well enough, it was natural to have a rough patch after coming into a new command. At least her Section Chief was easy to get along with, basic principle of 'don't get on their bad side' but his expectations were fair enough. She had been managing to keep up and even excel on some of her given assignments. She hadn't really made many friends yet but that was 'normal' for her. Her Guitar, Dancing and Artwork always seemed to keep her company when others would not. For the moment she was going to the Holodeck to do some dancing. There was that song she had found in the Earth Database that she had been toying around with for a routine; at least the sound of it on the Guitar was wonderful, now she needed to figure out if you could actually dance to it.
Michelle 'Mishy' Rogers was a Five Foot Six inch 'delicate' woman; she kept herself in shape, right down to her 'curves' that her father would tease yet compliment her over. 'You're a curvy girl, some guys will like it, others won't. So long as you like it, will be what matters most.' She loved her deep brown almost black hair, that seemed to have some red in it when the light hit it just right. She was not exactly reclusive but just hadn't felt like she had fitted in much; how much room did the 'world and universe beyond' have for a small, curvy girl that could manage to speak a few languages that others can't, happen to play the Guitar well and indulged in sketches and dancing? There was always room for those who were loud; would announce themselves and take charge, usually the people like her got squashed, thrown to the side or used and then left in the shadows.
Her hair was partially pinned back and allowed to flow down her shoulders to just past her shoulder blades. The long blue coat with tie hid the white dress underneath it; long enough to dance in without anyone getting any real shocks but still not to the ankle or long enough to step on, the softer white heels, high enough to lengthen the leg, but not bad enough to break one's neck, tied it all off. There was a slight look of disappointment in her blue-green eyes when she saw the Holodeck she had reserved was in use. Maybe whoever it was had run overtime without realising it, or had been in a rush and not switched off their program when they left? Both were easily possible; at least whoever it was that had been in a rush, she assumed, had similar tastes. she noticed that it was a dance program in use. A soft smile came across her face as she decided to give it a try.
Softtouch could not give the special voice command and he was having some problems with his PADD getting the commands through the system, it was several minutes that he had been getting the bad reply and his codes. He sensed someone on the outside of the door wanting to come in and he realized how much he had gone over his time.
Michelle always loved to close her eyes as she walked into the holodeck. It gave an element of surprise and wonder, even to a program that she had been into twenty times before. It was even more so for something she had never seen before. Not knowing what lay beyond the arch or even who could be waiting there for her. She stepped in, heels coming together and meeting the floor. She listened for a moment, to truly take things in before thinking about opening her eyes and moving on in to explore.
Softtouch saw the face of the woman; the eyes caught the light just in a way that had caught him off-guard, she had somewhat of a mixed emotions and he just gave her a smile and his attention away from his PADD. He moved forward and gave a warm smile as he let the emotions of the woman wash over him; he could not ask anything so he would have to wait her first question.
The room was quiet, almost like it had a sense of anticipation to it; she could feel the floorboards of the studio under her heels and the sound they made as she adjusted her footing. She opened her eyes to the brighter lighting and found a man standing there on the floor. As she approached she could see he had some height to him; the dark hair made him look a little mysterious, in a good way. Michelle noticed the blue eyes as she got closer having to look up a little to truly see his face. *Almost makes me thankful I wore the heels.* She thought to herself. Michelle was happy to be there and was curious about this other dancer; she was rather calm even with having things a little behind schedule.
"Hi there." She said quietly. "I'm Michelle, I guess whoever was using the program left it on by accident. Would you be in the mood for a dance? I enjoy it myself, not exactly professional grade or anything."
The question was simple; he took another step towards her and stopped in a ready stance of a dance with a grin; it could be thought of as a sly grin by some circles. He did not have to hide the fact that he might like to see what she could do on the dance floor.
Michelle smiled in reply, taking the deep Blue coat off in readiness for the dance. She tested out the floor with a couple of steps and tempo changes; getting a feel for things. "Well then, I'm not sure about you but I'm in the mood for something upbeat. Had a bit of a bad day." Michelle said with her eyes wandering to the floor. She let out a sigh, the small pang of sadness evident. "Still, there's nothing like dancing to pick the spirits up. Computer - Access personal music files - Michelle Rogers." The computer acknowledged the request in it's usual dry way. "Play acoustic composition 'Feel the Light', 3/4 beat signature. Commence playback on my count." She kept the distance, setting up for a curtsey and step in to pick up on the beat with her partner. With a smile and a kind of practised elegance Michelle performed a curtsey with slight bow, as she did so she asked the computer to commence the playback.
The first few bars were a kind of staggered note pattern; almost like someone was humming a tune, slight key changes along the F key scale in four or five note groupings before launching into the full chords for the first verse. Michelle started with a spin out of the curtsey and some cross steps in timing with the note groupings to take up position with her partner on the last grouping before the verse started. She smiled as she set up, feeling genuinely happy to be dancing and see if the pace of the piece would work. The top of her dress hung in such a way across her shoulders that it showed more of a straight line when in a position close to a ballroom dance. "Ready when you are" she whispered. "Let's have fun."
Without a word Softtouch took the hand and with a slow advance of sliding his foot to meet her and then his rear foot followed until his was up to her; arm to her lower back in proper stance and deftly took her hand as though it were of lace and would tear if he put too much pressure upon it and with a slow momentum took them into a slow circle with her being the center point and he making an orbit around her.
Then with only the softest touch of his palm to her back planted himself as the pivot point and allowed her to glide around him. He kept his eyes focused upon her as though it were the receiving of instructions from her mood. Slowly he spun on the ball of his right foot while Michelle made her elegant dancing orbit of him and then again he allowed her to be the center with the beat of the music.
"Here I go" He took the first steps towards her leading her in long sliding steps. "Here I go." The quick steps were full and he felt her flow of emotion and her lightness of spirit in a way while the music did more than sing to her; it lightened her steps as well as her heart with each beat of the music.
He had obviously done some partner work before; the touch was in all the places she would have expected with 'proper form' and yet ever so light. Some dancers would have an 'iron grip' and the leading hand would hurt by the end of the routine, others would have a wandering hand that would seem to 'roam' all over the lower back. Her partner had picked up on the tempo and the moves came to suit it. So far, so good; she wondered what moves awaited her.
