Mission:
Of Gods and Men
Location: Sickbay
Walking into sickbay, Cam was supporting his right elbow in his left hand, which was the top of the list of his injuries today. Standing just inside the door, he started Looking around for a medical officer, "hay doc, are you here?"
Drani poked her head out from one of the medical lab to spot a man standing in the doorway. "You've found me. I'm Doctor Drani, the new Chief Medical Officer," she introduced herself as she stepped out of the lab and towards the man.
"Captain Bourne, Marine CO. I'd shake your hand but both of mine are occupied" Cam said, moving to meet Drani, "first day on the job hay? Well here's a welcome present for you"
"It's good to meet you, captain. Have a seat on the bed over there," she gestured to a nearby bio bed. She grabbed a medical tricorder off the nearby equipment tray. "So what happened? Training? Doing martial arts or fighting a Klingon. I know how rowdy you Marines get," she joked, grinning.
Cam smiled, "Rock climbing. I was half way up a sheer face when I lost my footing. I fell almost ten metres to where I'd put my last driving pin. Somehow, while I fell, my arm got tangled in the rope, so when it caught on the pin, my shoulder was jerked out of its socket. The rest of the scratches are self explanatory"
"Ouch," she replied as she flipped open her tricoder and scanned the shoulder. "Yep, it's dislocated," she said after a moment, snapping the tricorder shut and placing it back on the table. "Luckily there isn't any significant muscle damage." She took a hold of his arm gently. "I'm going to have to pop it back into place first. Are you ready?"
Cam nodded, "have at it doc" he said, bracing himself for the pain.
Drani pulled hard and then pushed, hearing a pop a second later. "There you go. Now to just repair the muscle damage and the scrapes. How long have you been rock climbing," she asked, grabbing muscular regenerator.
Wincing at the pain, Cam gritted his teeth for a moment before answering, "ever since I joined the corp. a marine's no good if he or she can't climb even a small cliff. What about you doc, Have you ever gone rock climbing? For real I mean, not on the holodeck"
As she ran the muscular regenerator, she grabbed a hypospray with a mild anesthetic and pressed it into his shoulder. "There, that help with the pain. As for rock climbing, I haven't been climbing recreationally." She thought back her time on occupied Betazed, climbing cliffs to evade Jem H'dar patrols.
Cam thought it was a little peculiar that she was being that specific, saying that she hadn't been recreational climbing. "So, what made a pritty girl like you go into medicine?"
Drani smiled faintly. "Thanks. Medicine chose me, actually. I've been treating others since I was 14." She said as she grabbed a dermal regenerator and began to treat the scrapes. "I was thrust into treating others when the Dominion invaded Betazed....and I was good at it so I took after my mother and became a doctor. What made you become a Marine?"
"Family tradition mixed with a little 'I just want to get out of here'. I've always enjoyed it. There's always down points to every job, but I've never regretted enlisting. And, sorry about Betazed. I was in another sector of the boarder when the breach happened, there was very little we could do"
"Thank you but no need to apologize," she replied solemnly. "It was war--Starfleet isn't to blame and neither are you, Mr. Bourne." She removed the muscular regenerator after hearing a signal stating it was finished. She resumed to heal the remaining scrapes. "My father would love you. He's spent nearly his entire life in the Bajoran Military."
Cam smiled, "ah yes, the Bajorans. Good gorilla fighters, but not so good in a front line fight. Fortunately Captain Sisco convinced them to sign a non agression pact with the dominion"
"Yes, it is fortunate," Drani agreed as she finished healing the last of the cuts. "There you are. All patched up until you decide to fall off another mountain," she joked, smiling.
"Oh don't worry, I only go climbing every few weeks" Cam said as he stood up and started testing his repaired shoulder, "feels good, you know what you're doing. Well, I'll try not to keep you too busy"
Drani smiled. "I'll hold you to that, captain."
Cam smiled, "is that a threat Doctor? I may just end up braking a few more bones just to keep you busy."
Drani picked up a hypospray and waved it teasingly at him with a grin. "Now, now, captain....don't tease me."
Cam smiled and winked, "oh, I wouldn't dream of it" he said, making his way towards the doors out, "I'll see you in two weeks"
Drani simply shook her head and turned to a nearby nurse. "If Captain Bourne shows up here in two weeks, have him treated as a hostile patient," she joked.
The nurse chuckled loudly. "Yes, doctor."
Cam laughed as he walked out into the ships corridors.
