Mission:
Of Gods and Men
Location: Sick Bay
ON
Newmark had the Sick bay at the ready; he had been acting Chief until the ship could be found a replacement. Now the ship has a newly arrived Chief Medical Officer would allow Newmark to return to his duties as the Assistant Chief Medical Officer. HE had not taken residence in the chief's office and thus allowed him to return again to the task of running a shift of the Sick Bay in support of the chief.
Newmark had taken care of all the reports and the Sick Bay remains ready to recieve the new Chief Medical Officer, a new person to guide the Sick Bay in the future. He was waiting for the Doctor to arrive and pass the torch to her.
Drani entered sickbay and spotted whom she suspected was in charge of the Medical Department until she officially took Command. She smiled as she approached him. "Greetings. I'm Doctor Drani." She offered her hand in the traditional Starfleet greeting.
"Lieutenant Verdeath Newmark." He accepted the hand of the new doctor and was careful with his gloved six fngers of his hand to mimic as well as he could a normal handshake. "I was told to expect you ma'am; the place is tip top shape considering we have a little excitement before picking you up." He gave the formal amount of pumps with his handshake before disengaging. "If you will I have the computer on stand by to accept the change of command?"
Drani grinned. "No need to be so formal, so no need to call me ma'am. Call me Doctor Drani or Victoria if you wish. Let's get the change of command done and then you can get me up to speed on what has been going on.". She followed him over to a console.
"Computer, transfer all Medical Command Codes to Lt. Victoria Drani, Newmark code echo sierra blue seven three." Newmark instructed.
[Confirmed, transfer complete.]
Drani tapped a few buttons to confirm the transfer and nodded with satisfaction. "So, what's been going on lately that I should know?"
"We have some wounded from a boarding, we have managed to set up a triage and get the wounded sorted. The stock of ready supplies we keep so not to tax the replicators is really low and needs resupply and the staff worked with great efficency. You have a good team, they know their jobs and all that is left is clean up and getting things back to routine." Newmark flushed. "Which will have to be *your* new routine."
Drani smiled. "Thank you, but for the first week I'll be relying heavily on your advice until I get acquainted with the ship, crew, and being back in Starfleet."
"I am at your service." Newmark said honestly. "It would be my pleasure; I am here to help only."
Drani smiled. " You almost sound like a robot," she chuckled, patting Newman on the shoulder. "First off, how about you give me a tour of the medical facilities. I've never served aboard a Galaxy Class vessel before."
"We can start with your domain; that I am quite glad to vacate and leave you the newly acculating paperwork." Newmark joked. "There are few Sick Bays compare to the Galaxy class which has become the basis for the larger Ships of the Line sick bays to follow." He started towards her office. "We have also used Cargo Bay one as a triage upon occasion when things get really busy." He told the new Chief. "You also have some unique staff; our newest nurse is a mute."
"Oh?" Drani wondered. "Why is that?"
"Total Empath with NO vocal cords physically." Newmark shrugged. "A racial trait, but very strong empathy and a great nurse that can seem to truly feel the apain of others." Newmark explained. "He uses a PADD with most people."
"Interesting. I look forward to working with him," she replied with a smile. She always enjoyed working with empaths and telepaths. So far, the Medical Facilities were as impressive as she had heard.
"Jemnar is a great nurse and he tends to gravitate to me a bit as easiest working shift since My wife taught me sign language and Jemnar was a pacticioner of it so we get along well." He took her towards the isolation area. "WE have four isolation rooms in SIck bay alone and the labs also have a couple per lab just in case."
"In that case, I'll try to assign Jemnar to work with you seeing the two of you work well together," she said. "I understand you're wife is expecting?"
His face had a glow to it at the mention of his wife. "Yes, our first." He was trying to keep his excitement contained. "The Gamma shift Doctor Lead , Johnson, is seeing to her needs but then if you feel you wish to take her case you do have that honor should you like?" Newmark said. "I am the second most experienced but then ..." He chuckled. "She is my wife and I am too close to her."
"Congratulations, but no. Your wife knows Johnson and is comfortable with him, so I won't stress her by having a new and unknown doctor see to her."
"I have to take great care in my not trying to be a doctor." Newmark said as he escort her about. "I had an old human doctor who hung around my Mother's business; real old school , made house calls and such." Newmark smiled. "Well he got me involved in medicine when I was in my teens; kind of like a nurse and more like a desciple, Ilike to make people feel better so he kind of got me started on the ropes and I wnet to Fleet medical." He paused for a second. "I helped birth three babies wiht Doc and one solo under his watchful eye before I went to the academy..." He had a cold emotion of hard memories come across him for an instant. "Set a lot of bones and such so I was advanced when I entered school, then I went into fleet and... " He looked over. "Here I am playing husband over doctor for my wife, it is effort not to make suggestions, but Nhallia is doing well so nothing for me to worry about Doctor."
Drani wondered about the cold she sensed from him. She knew all about bad memories and decided not to pry. "Playing husband is far more important than being a doctor. I have a similar background. I was sorta thrusted into medicine when the Dominion invaded Betazed. I was 14 and my mother instructed me on basic first aid and then onto minor surgery."
I had been a massuse by the time I was 10; my mother runs the best massage spa on Risa; she started a one room business and now she owns virtually the whole block." He shrugged. "I wanted to see what was outside Risa?" I found that there are things out there I am glad I might never see again." He shrugged. "But with the labs just down the hall that concludes the dime tour of the Sick Bay."
Drani smiled. "Thank you for the tour. If you want, you may take off a bit early to spend time with your wife. I'm sure the nurses here will keep me in line for the day until I catch up on the assignments."
"Thank you Ma'am." Newmark said with a smile. "While I was acting Chief I had to stay over a few extra times so she will thank you when she meets you." He said with a bow. "I am sure you will catch up in no time Doctor."
"I hope so. Now go," she chuckled. She liked her assistant so far.
