Mission:
Deadly Diplomacy
Location: Ten Forward
Timeline: Current
Commander Martin walked into Ten Forward for the first time looking at the scarcely populated bar filled with several patrons taking a nightcap. It was close to 0100 hours and he had been requested to meet Admiral Hunter here at this late hour, his first official meeting with a commanding officer on the Calypso.
He walked up to the bartender who seemed a bit tired judging by the sacks under his eyes. "Finishing out your shift?" Jonathan asked smiling.
"Yup," the bartender replied putting some clean glasses away behind the counter. "Been a long shift. What can I get you?" He asked the Commander.
"Sulivan Cole's French Oak Cask with an ice ball please," he ordered.
"Oh, good choice. You like your single malts, eh?" He asked as he stepped away to prepare the drink.
"Never was a fan of blends," Jonathan replied.
The bartender replicated the ice ball and the whiskey quickly as he presented it to the Commander. "Here you go, Sir," layung it down in front of him. "I haven't seen your face around here before, you new?" He asked curiously.
"Yeah, just got here today actually. The new mission advisor," he answered as he picked up his drink. "Got any advice?" He asked jokingly.
"Ha! You came at the wrong time Commander, things are pretty hectic around here. My advice is, well, be careful," he winked at Jonathan with a slight smile himself.
"Thanks," he lifted his glass in the air as a salute to the bartender before turning around to see if the Admiral had entered Ten Forward yet.
He had never saw the Admiral in person nor any of his dossier files, but he was certain the Admiral knew what he looked like. After browsing the room at the few patrons none whom looked back or showed any indication that any of them were expecting him, Jonathan figured he hadn't arrived yet.
Seeing a window seat at the back corner of the lounge he made his way to the farthest table and took his seat. He took a small sip of his cold whiskey and sat back in the chair as he enjoyed every second the liquid invaded all of his taste buds as the long day was almost over.
Jayna saw a man with Commander pips sitting in a corner. It was enough of an oddity to draw her attention. She walked over to him and nodded. "You're new here, aren't you?"
It took a second for Jonathan to snap out of his relaxation when he looked at the Bajoran Vulcan woman standing before him. He glanced at her ranking of lieutenant junior grade and realized whom he was talking to. "Hello to you to and yes, I'm new here," he said standing up and extending his hand in courtesy.
"I'm Jayna. And you are?" she asked, taking his proffered hand.
"Jonathan. Pleased to meet you Jayna," he said with a firm grip. "You're the assistant chief intelligence officer here if I'm not mistaken," He said politely smiling as their hands departed from each other.
She raised an eyebrow. "I am. What brings you to the Calypso?"
"My previous ship was decommissioned and I took some time off and decided it would be nice to have a change of scenary. So here I am aboard the Calypso as the new mission advisor. Please, sit down if you like," he extended his hand palm up towards the opposite end chair at the table as he took his seat.
Jayna nodded and sat down. "Thank you. I guess some people would consider chaos a change of pace." She smiled to show she was not completely serious.
Jonathan smiled, "Someone once said 'We adore chaos because we love to produce order.' Maybe it's true." He took a sip of his drink, "So, how's this fine ship treating you?" He asked.
"Good, for the most part," Jayna replied. "The Commodore is quite accommodating. She's given us a lot of leeway in our current investigation."
"Ah, the investigation. Heard there was a 'situation' before I arrived. Hopefully everything gets resolved in a brisque and civilized manner. Have any advice before I get nose deep into the workings of this ship tomorrow?" He asked in a friendly and semi-joking tone.
"Yes" Came a voice from the table behind them. Slowly the figure would turn around, revealing Admiral Hunter of Starfleet Intelligence Special Operations Division. "Avoid the Admiral from Intel. I hear he is a real sneak and tends to appear when you least expect it." Max added a smirk as he raised his coffee and took a sip. Without losing his eye contact with Jonathan, Max stood up and slide his chair over to their table. Slowly, he sat down and eased back, crossing his arms over his black suit and red tie. "Admiral Maximilian Hunter, Starfleet Intel. Special Op's division. Nice to meet you Commander Martin. Oh an I meant what I said, but don't hold it against me. It's a habit."
"But he's not as big a pain in the neck as the dwarf running Intel on the Calypso," Jayde replied, her tone was joking, but there was the an undertone that suggested she was telling the truth. "Admiral Hunter does tend to pop out of the strangest places."
"I walk out of a door leading to a Tellarite Fashion Show, one time, and I am labeled as the guy who walks out of strange places." Max chuckled slightly under breath and raised his mug a bit. "Don't let her first comment sway you from Intel so quickly. The dwarf isn't as Grumpy as she makes him out to be. Then again, he isn't Happy, Bashful, or Dopey, either. I'll let you be the judge."
Jonathan smiled, "I'll be sure to keep this in mind," he said playfully. "It's a pleasure to meet you sir. The Lieutenant here was nice enough to keep me company until our meeting started," he said turning to her before he turned back to the Admiral. "You requested to see me, sir?"
"That's what makes me a good Intel officer," Jayna replied blandly. "I'm nosy."
She looked at the Admiral and stood. "I also know when to vacate the premises. Nice meeting you, Commander."
She nodded to Admiral Hunter and made a strategic exit.
Max watched Jayna leaned, before turning back to Jonathan. He paused for a moment and took a sip of his drink before placing it back down on the table and leaning forward. "Yes, I wanted to put you in a place where you can do the most good. You have to admit, the flagship of the fleet isn't a bad choice, but this also happens to be a place where you can continue your side project with the most tools at your disposal." He replied, clearing his throat slightly before continuing. "The Intel departments Horus and Lieutenant Batiste's team will be at your disposal, plus the experience and contacts of Damion Wolfe, once he returns from his own special assignment."
