Mission: Deadly Diplomacy
ON
Jayna was the first to arrive at the Intel conference room. She wasn't usually early, but tonight it would work for her. It gave her a chance to pick her seat and wait for the others. It also gave her time to get herself a nice drink and look over the information she was to share with the others.
Remy soon walked in behind Jayna, with Logan in tow. Logan had Spock the Monkey on his shoulder who was in a sitting position as he chomped on a small piece of fruit. Both the monkey and Caitian seemed very pleased once they saw Jayna, and for the moment, seemed to be the only ones.
"Have you checked the systems?" Remy said abruptly, stopping in mid stride to look up at his large assistant and muscle. "Reworked the firewalls? Shifted all necessary access codes? Established new imprints and vocal algorithms?"
"Yes, yes, and yes." Logan replied with a sigh, sneaking a smile to Jayna as he crossed his arms over his chest. "All my time working with you and Horus, you still have doubts on my capabilities?"
Remy took a moment as he placed his PADD on the table and let out a slight breath in an attempt to calm his voice and change his tone. "No, Mister Logan. I don't doubt your skills and abilities as an engineer. Both Horus, and myself, are very happy to have found you and to have you on my team. My concern is everyone else. We don't know these people. I don't want anyone touching our work. Our baby."
"First off, your paranoid. I highly doubt anyone with the knowledge or capability, can crack the codes and security that I have designed and Jayna has improved. I will spend another night, for your state of mind, going through everything. However, I am telling you with complete confidence, that no one is going to get on board Horus. Not only has Jayna and I have seen to it, but Horus is completely capable of distinguishing friend and foe." Logan replied, shifting his hands from his chest to his hips as he looked down to Remy. "No one is getting into Horus without us three-" The large Caitian was interrupted by a loud screech from Spock. "I'm sorry. I mean us four knowing about it."
"Good." Remy replied as he turned his body back to face the table as he picked up his PADD and began to skim through it. "Keep me up to date."
Logan looked to Jayna, slipping her a smirk, before turning back to look down to Remy and giving him a mock salute as his friends back was turned. "Jawohl, mein Kommandant."
Jayna grinned back, enjoying watching Logan and Remy's verbal parries.
Remy, eyes still focused on his PADD, let out a slight smirk and then quickly went back to her stern grin. He enjoyed his back and forth's with Logan. As much as he seemed determined to get on his nerves, he was pleased to know that Logan wasn't on for taking him too seriously. For as long as the team had been together, his trust was more in his large Caitian than anyone else. Although, Jayna wasn't a part of the team for long he was beginning to accept her primarily for how much Logan had shifted in personality. He was having fewer and fewer bursts of rage and that was a pleasant sign.
"So, now that you know we're not out to steal your gold, can we get to work?" Jayna said. "Or does your clan prefer mining for jewels?" She shook her head in mock puzzlement. "I haven't heard you sing yet, so I'm not sure if you come from Moria or the Enchanted Forest."
"I always heard they mine for fairy dust?" Logan blurted out.
"Would you stop contributing to her obsession with me and fairy tales? I will remind you all that we are here to work and as your department head, I would prefer my own staff to show me some ounce of respect." Remy said slightly raising his voice as he placed his hands down on the desk.
"We're the only ones here, Remy. It's not like we aren't like anyways. You know we respect you." Logan added looking over to Jayna, than back to Remy. "Relax. Your just worried you won't make a good first impression, especially with Max here."
Remy raised his PADD again, only to place it back down. "I could care less about Max. I know Max. It's everyone else I am concerned about."
Jayna didn't think Remy cared two hoots what anyone thought of him. But she chose to keep that to herself for now. "Aren't we waiting on Hunter? He's here and he's part of the Intel gathering. Besides, he's your boss as much as York is."
"And, by all rights, that means he is your boss too. Who do you think pushed the paperwork along to get you on board the Horus? Max has done a lot to help both me and Logan out." Remy replied, picking up the PADD again and skimming through it a bit before continuing. "And this is not just a meeting with Hunter, other people are involved too. No doubt Max is abiding his time and waiting to make an entrance. Unless the rumors are true and he is getting soft because he is getting to close to someone that no one knows about."
"I heard that. Do you think the rumors are true and its a former Tal Shiar spy he used to chase?" Logan questioned as he looked from Remy, to Jayna, and back again.
"I heard it was a woman who actually managed to wound him in a fight. Some story about them being alone on some M Class planet and getting into a fight that lasted three days and nights and eventually they ended up going at it. Or was it they went at it for three days and nights? The story is always changing." Remy said as he looked back up to Logan.
Jayna had her own theories, but she kept them to herself.
