Mission: Deadly Diplomacy

[CONTINUED]

[OLD]

Illise stepped up to the desk after Alyssa had moved on and gave Helga her orders as well. "Ensign Illise Hale." She introduced herself. "I don't have a preference either." She tried not to laugh as she listened to the banter between Alyssa and Newmark for a moment, glancing over a Schmidt as well. Both doctors on duty (or online, if you made the distinction) were currently with other patients, so she turned back to Helga. "I don't mind waiting."

[NEW]

"No I am not going to tell my pregnant wife I instructed a young woman to hop onto *ANY* type of a bed thank you Hel."Newmark replied.

Alyssa chuckled. "No, that'd be more the Chief Engineer. Such circumstances apparently were grounds for three divorces."

"FIVE. If you're going to gossip, get the details right." The half Vulcan said from across the room.

Helga walked up to S'Kott and put a lolly pop in his mouth. "Your blood sugar is low," she said as she turned and headed back to the front desk.

"I could use something else a little sweet." He called after the nurse. "I'm not a fan of lollipops." He added, eyeing the nurse, as she retreated back to her desk.

"I could give it to you as an enema, but it doesn't taste as good," Helga joked, ignoring the rest of his comment.

"The way you and the Chief Engineer talk are you the future ex-Mrs Schmit?" Newmark commented.

"Ew. No thanks." Alyssa and S'Kott said in near unison.

S'kott returned his attention to the EMH. "You look like a real person."

Galen held out her arm for Schmidt's inspection. "I am programmed to look and feel as real as possible, to better contribute to the comfort of my patients. It is very important." She crossed to a biobed and picked up a tricorder. "The physical emulation is relatively easy, it's the mannerisms which require extra work. I'll be honest, I still have much to learn." She gestured to the biobed, "Well, I have no qualms about asking - please lie down Lieutenant and we'll get started."

Alyssa scowled at the Doctor. "That's so wrong, it's not even funny."

Illise stiffed a snicker. The EMH might say she had a lot to learn, but that was almost masterful. "I dare you to say it Lieutenant."

"As long as she does not put me out of a job." Newmark commented lightly. "Though my wife might prefer her over the busy Chief Medical Officer."

"I make no promises Doctor." Galen grinned at him, playing along with the joke. She rather liked it. "Although there is always the option of deactivating my program if you feel that your job is threatened." In a more serious tone she added, "There are advantages to not requiring sleep. I would be happy to see your wife, and can be available whenever she needs me."

"The last time a woman told me to lie down, and get started-" S'Kott started, with a mischievous grin.

"LIEUTENANT. QUIT TRYING TO SEDUCE THE MEDICAL STAFF." Alyssa yelled from across the room.

"FINE." He muttered. "Still, though. There's something I don't understand. Doesn't it bother you that people treat you like a lightbulb?" He asked, still fascinated that she appeared to be a person, yet he could touch her, and not feel the typical wash of discomfort and alien thoughts caused by telepathy.

Galen did a quick scan of S'Kott with her tricorder. "I have yet to be treated like a 'light bulb'. Although I have not been active for very long, so there is always the possibility." She looked at the tricorder data. "Besides..." she logged the results and then began prepping the biobed, "I have met several light bulbs and have determined that I have a much more interesting personality than they do." Galen thought that is was a good joke - to a hologram anyway, but then humor was a tricky thing.

"Actually," S'Kott said, with a half smile, "I've met some very explosive light bulbs that were real conversational fire starters. They might be offended by that."

Alyssa groaned. "QUIT. FLIRTING. WITH. THE. MEDICAL. STAFF."

"Well," Galen tried to sound sarcastic, "let's not upset the light bulbs." She turned her eyes to to the ceiling for a moment, as if waiting to see if the lights would suddenly turn off. When they did not she looked back at S'kott, raised an eyebrow and then finished the prep. She found Alyssa's instance that he was flirting with her interesting. She had not encountered that type of social interaction before. "It is alright Ensign Flores," she glanced at the woman, "I find it quiet interesting." She looked back at S'kott. "Tell me Lieutenant, is that a habit of yours?"

"13 ex wives? I'm pretty sure it's a hobby." Flores noted.

"Do you have something I can throw?" S'Kott asked the EMH.

"I am a doctor, not an arms dealer." Galen found that the request by one patient for an object to hurl at another was slightly offensive, even if it was in jest. She marveled at the sensation though, letting her subroutines run that one over a few times. The behavior of her patient was childish, although he was over 70 years old. She reviewed the data she had collected from her tricorder scan again, which already stored on the ship's computer and therefore available to her. "The most I can do is give you several suggestions on how to deal with your apparent overabundance of testosterone."

Illise found a chair and sat quietly, just watching. This was better than an hour on the holodeck.

Helga came back a minute later and addressed Illise. "Can I get you anything while you wait?" She glanced at the others. "Popcorn seems appropriate."

Illise couldn't help but laugh. "I'm alright, thanks."

Helga nodded, a twinkle in her eye. "I have a bowl of lollipops at the front desk if you want anything sweet. The doctor will be with you shortly."
