Mission: Deadly Diplomacy

ON

Lieutenant S'Kott Schmidt, and Ensign Alyssa Flores entered Sickbay, both with official orders to report in for their crew physicals. As they approached the reception desk, Alyssa shook her head.

"No, no. The doctor isn't trapped in the box, with a quantum vortex. It's a holographic protocol." Alyssa explained. "You use a command, and it turns on."

"So it's a machine? Like a computer program?" S'Kott asked.

Alyssa nodded. "Something like that. Projected sound, light, and energy. Technically computer program yes, machine, no."

S'Kott nodded to the Nurse at the reception desk, and handed her both his PADD, and Ensign Flores' PADD.

"I'd like to see that thing work. Please schedule mine with the Doctor in the box. You know the one that-" S'Kott began.

Alyssa put a hand in front of his face. "Lieutenant S'Kott would prefer the EMH do it. He has a phobia of touching people. It's a cultural thing. I'm game for whoever's available." She said to the nurse.

Entering the Sickbay, Ensign Illise Hale saw that there were two other officers already speaking to the nurse. The coffee had been relatively good, and had been just enough to wake her up in time to report for her physical. Also the brief walk to find it had stretched out the lingering cramp in her leg from the long ride on the shuttle. Not wanting to be rude, she stepped up behind the two at the desk to wait her turn.

S'Kott gave the Ensign a probably inappropriate once over, but didn't immediately comment, waiting for the nurse to reply. He was punished for this, with Flores' elbow being shoved in to his ribs at a noticeably forceful manner.

Illise was a little surprised by the manner of the Lieutenant who looked her over. He appeared Vulcan, but his manner most certainly did not. She leveled a slightly more steely look than was really necessary at him. He reminded her of Bor'lak, a Klingon she had know a few years back. He'd given her a similar look too. She smirked as she remembered how that had ended.

Helga took the PADDs from the Lieutenant and tapped a few icons on her console. "I would be happy to activate the EMH if you are not comfortable with any of our doctors." She gave S'Kott a warm, sympathetic smile. "But I can assure you that the doctors are quite competent and would be very careful about how they touch you."

"No, no, I'm sure they are. I've just never seen one work." S'Kott noted.

"Very well then," Helga replied. "Computer, activate EMH." There was a moment's delay, then a woman with short red hair and a medical uniform appeared several feet away.

"Good-day. How may I be of assistance?" Galen greeted the crewmen before her in the Sickbay with a friendly smile. Besides the nurse, they were all new transfers - not so very unlike herself, she thought.

Helga handed Galen a PADD containing S'Kott's medical records. "This gentleman would like you to give him his physical." she told the hologram.

Galen made a show of quickly reading the PADD. Actually, she had already downloaded and reviewed his files before the device was even in her hand, but she knew people preferred actions that they were familiar with. Most social interactions were a show of one form or another, she had noticed. Many were very nice, while others were rather baffling.

"It would be my pleasure." Galen turned her attention the the Vulcan-Human hybrid male standing in front of her. "It is good to meet you Lieutenant Schmidt"

"And you, Ms.-?" Schmidt said, surprised at the sudden appearance of the woman.

"You can call me Doc, or Galen if you prefer." Galen noticed that his pulse had elevated slightly at her appearance. "I hope that I did not startle you just now. I suppose that having someone appear out of thin air could be a little disconcerting." She continued to offer him her best friendly smile.

"I'm unaccustomed to it, but, I'm curious." He said, removing his gloves, and tracing her hand. "You're so real. How odd."

Helga turned to the two women. "And you? Would you like to see one of our doctors?"

Alyssa nodded. "That sounds just fine." She said, with a smile.

"Did I hear someone ask if there is a Doctor in the house?" Newmark came around as he heard some patients in the Sick Bay. "We are open for business." Newmark came forward. "I am Doctor Newmark at your service." He winked at the Nurse. "Hello Hel, anything I can help with?"

"Indeed," Hel said, smiling at the doctor. "They are in need of physicals."

Alyssa smiled at Newmark. "Ensign Flores." She said, with a nod. "That's Alyssa Flores. Apparently there's seven Ensign Floreses in Engineering, and only two are related."

"Are you the elder or younger?" Newmark said as he took out his Tricorder and using all six of his fingers to get the correct settings and a quick scan. "Okay I have your bio signature and let me call up your records accordingly." He looked up. "Hate to bring up the wrong one."

"I'm definitely the younger." Alyssa said, nodding. "The other Alyssa Flores is almost as old as that relic." She said, nodding towards the Chief Engineer.

Newmark glanced at the Chief Engineer. "Learn something new everyday, I did not think Flores was a Vulcan name?" He was trying that humor thing. "Would you mind climbing onto a Bioscanner." He motioned to a Biobed.

"Flores isn't. I'm human." Alyssa said, with a shrug. "Then again, neither is Schmidt. Though I'm fairly certain that the specifications of this device call it a "biobed"."

"It is," Helga replied conspiratorially. "He has a hard time saying vagina, too."

Illise stepped up to the desk after Alyssa had moved on and gave Helga her orders as well. "Engsin Illsie Hale." She introduced herself. "I don't have a preference either." She tried not to laugh as she listened to the banter between Alyssa and Newmark for a moment, glancing over a Schmidt as well. Both doctors on duty (or online, if you made the distinction) were currently with other patients, so she turned back to Helga. "I don't mind waiting."
