Mission: Deadly Diplomacy

ON

Lynta had little problems with her expression of a mixed anger and perhaps some fear as she and the two charges entered the Conference Room , her red hair hinted at the temper she displayed charging through the corridors and getting a clear path from the crew who felt safer 'Not' impeding her.

"Commodore York..." Her almost Scottish accent rang through. "You are aware that a delegation was killed." She slammed her hands upon the table. "Your pitiful attempts at security are nearly laughable." She glared at the woman in charge of the Calypso. "I demand our weapons be issued to us for our own protection." "Further more we require more of OUR security force to be immediately transported to aid in our protection."

Sam leaned over the table. "I would send you back to your people to protect you, but I need to be sure you didn't kill the Panerian delegation first. Now, I will be happy to give you your weapons as long as you stay confined in your rooms. But be advised that whomever killed the Panerians is on a cloaked vessel and can transport anywhere, including your rooms here and on Octurus Prime."

Lynta returned the stare as she was seething, this Federation woman was not making this easy. "SO what have you done to assure our safety." Lynta said coldly. "And killing those men outside the battle is not what one would call cricket. You may not believe it but I do want peace, an end to the killing and murder does not bede well to that end." She did not change her expression. "Is that Green woman able to fight, she had that spirit with her gaze, she did not flinch?" Lynta said. "Do you have security women with that same fire to help?"

"You might find it hard to adjust to this, but our security teams are mixed, women and men working together to get the job done. I think the best you can hope for is a team led by a woman, though making that kind of request specifically is unusual. I think ensign Suveg is a good team leader from what I've seen." Ignatz mused.

"Yes, I have people who have the same fire as Ensign Spartacus," Sam assured her. "I've tripled security on the ship. Both security and Marines are now at high alert for any suspicious activity. If it makes you feel safer, I will assign women to stand guard throughout the VIP areas. As Lieutenant Jones said, here we have both men and women serving together as equals."

"You said we could have our weapons for protection as well?" Lynta asked again. "We would feel safer with them should something happens."

"Of course," Sam assured her. "As long as you keep them in your quarters. We'll have an armed escort for you whenever you leave the VIP area, but within the VIP area, feel free to use your weapons."

"I am sure that this will have to do." Lynta agreed. "What are your assurances that My delegation will not end up like the Panterian Delegation?"

"Would witnesses be a reassurance, If it's not too presumptuous of me to ask to stay in the anteroom of the VIP suite, I can at least offer a deterrent by my presence?" Ignatz answered cuereously.

"From all accounts the murders were done quickly; if you wish to put yourself at risk it is by your choice but should you venture out of those confines without an emergency you risk your own health?" Lynta warned. "We will not be so easily killed as those weak men of the Panterians."

"I don't think a witness will be of much help as the murderer beamed into the room, killed the delegation and beamed out," Sam said. "Having weapons may be a deterrent if the murderer has a hand weapon. But we really don't know if it was just the Panerians they were after or why. Another delegation from Paneria will arrive tomorrow and the talks will continue -- with extra security."

Arnon chose this opportunity to speak up.

"I'm Doctor Arnon Barak," he said, introducing himself. "Ship's Counselor. If I might point out, if we are going to resolve this security issue, if talks are going to continue, perhaps we all might take a step back from the posturing and the threats? They are not helping the situation. Ms. Lynta, every time you make a threat of violence, the Commodore has to counter you with a defensive posture to show that she is in control here. We are here to help. There is a very dire outside threat here and we need to work together to counter it instead of wasting time and energy countering each other."

"And how would you respond to a peace talks where half those asking for peace are killed?" Lynta asked surprisingly calmly. "I wan peace in hopes that things like this will end with this war. I am also afraid of what could happen if the Panerians blame my People for instigating this?" She was letting her point be known. "I have resigned myself to dying in this war but would prefer to see it end. If I have offended I do apologize I am forgetting why we are here. Thank you Doctor Barak, my people depend upon healers, we tend to listen to them, I think you for your insights." She looked to York. "We find a scattering field is effective, but that will mean the delegation will arrive by shuttle, I know your interior sensors and protections will stop a place to place within the ship Commodore York?"

"They should. We've set up security to prevent site-to-site transportation within the ship, but we still don't know who is behind the attacks," Sam said. "The Panerians want peace as much as you do. We will begin the peace talks while we continue the investigation so that we don't let the murders keep you from the peace you both want."

Sam paused for a moment. "Someone wants to keep you and the Panerians at war. I have no intention of letting them succeed. I would like your cooperation in not only helping to make sure there are no further attacks, but in giving peace a chance. Can I count on you?" she asked Lynta.

"I would not be here if I did not wish peace..." Lynta said proudly and thought of her words for a second. "So yes you can count on my people and I to do what we can Coomadore York." Lynta gave a bow as she respected York.

"Thank you," Sam said, bowing in return. "I will have your weapons returned to you so that you may have them in your quarters. I will send word as soon as the new Panerian delegation arrives." The more she spoke with Lynta, the more she appreciated the woman's strength. It made her more determined to make sure everything worked out well.
