860 words; about a 4 minute read

Mission: Deadly Diplomacy
Location: VIP Quarters

[CONTINUED]

"They were long dead when I arrived, I am sorry Samantha, I was too far away in my quarters to maintain a connection, I-I did not sense anything ma'am." Spartacus felt she had let down her Commanding officer. "You left them in my care and I failed you Smantha, I-I should have been closer to sense their emotional spike, and then maybe the one who did this would not have been so easy. " She admit, wishing she had been taught on Betazed how to use her heritage rather than some rogue Telepath that was for hire by the Syndicate.

"No one asked you to keep that close a watch on the delegation. There were enough security protocols in place to make sure nothing happened," Sam replied. Which meant that whoever did this had to know enough about Starfleet protocols to bypass them.

"Computer, who entered the room before Ensign Sparta?"

"The Panerian Delegation entered at 1145 hours last night."

"Who came in after that?"

"No one entered the room after the Panerians and before Ensign Sparta."

That was quite odd. Someone had to have entered to do this. Sam walked slowly over to the bodies, careful not to touch any evidence. The sword sticking out of the man in the chair looked familiar.

"Distinctive blade." Spartacus noted. "Nasty if it can pin and hold someone to a chair like that, single sided or the wound would be enlarged at the weight of the body wanting to go to the floor."

Kela walked into the VIP room and soon stopped short. "Whoa." She took a minute to look around and softly said. "What the hell did I get into last night?" For a brief moment she tried to think back to last night and remember what she specifically did. Kela remembered everything. She remembered stopping herself from drinking too much, she remembered avoid most people, and she remembered going to bed so this couldn't have been Lenara.

Finally, she broke from her train of thought and proceeded over to Samantha and Sparta. "This is going to cause a major dent in the peace talks, isn't it?"

Sam chuckled wryly. "Most definitely." She sobered and continued. "I need a thorough investigation. Bring in Intel on this. I want every part of this investigation classified."

"We are to be opening the Peace Talks shortly; it will be very one sided."

Kela paused slightly, a bit taken back by the order. "Ma'am, there is no way to keep this classified. A representative for a peace talk that we are host, on this ship, was murdered. We need to inform Starfleet Command. The Peace Talks are over. There is no way we can keep this from getting worse."

"It would be proper to notify the Panterian World that their representatives will not be returning." Spartacus suggested. "But to inform Command does pose a risk if we report first to command it might seem as though we were closer to the middle and hiding things?"

This was Kela's first major murder on her new posting and this was not going well. As Acting Chief she obviously had a lot to learn and so far nothing was going as it should be. She also couldn't shake off her feeling. This feeling that the Captain knew more then she was leading on. Could she be involved in some way? "Ma'am? What is it? You obviously want this to be kept in house for a reason. Unless you let me in on why, I can't keep this from getting worse."

"The Panerians will be notified, as will the other delegates," Sam assured them both. "And Starfleet will be informed of the murders and that we are investigating." Sam paused and looked at them both. "What no one must know right now is the sword belongs to Lieutenant Damion Wolfe. I've seen it several times. I'm pretty sure when we look for prints, we'll find his. I do not believe he committed the murder, but someone wants us to think so -- and someone wants the Federation to get in trouble with both worlds. For that reason, no one is to know anything more than that we're investigating."

Yes ma'am Commodore." Spartacus said as she watch where she stepped, no need to step n a pool of blood and have bloody heel prints all over. "There were no life signs, my fingerprints might be on their carotid Artery as I had to manually check for pulse as is protocol. But nowhere else."She was not totally used to this but being an EMT of sorts she could tell they were dead.

Sam nodded and turned to Kela. "Get a team in here to take preliminary scans and images. We'll go from there."

"I'll call an emergency meeting to report the murder and start the investigation. As for Damion's sword, that is classified. Understood?" Sam looked to the other two women. "The last thing I want is to lose another crew member to a witch hunt>'
