Mission:
Deadly Diplomacy
Location: Kara's quarters
ON:
Sitting in Kara's quarters, Cam was looking through a visual list of wedding dresses looking for one he thought Kara would like. Now that he had Sam's agreement to conduct the wedding, all he needed to do was to figure out with Kara the where and when. For now, he was just waiting for Kara to get off duty.
It had been a long day. Drills, paperwork and a belligerent Private. Kara was looking forward to relaxing and spending some time with Cam.
She opened the door to her quarters and smiled when she saw Cam. "Hi."
"Hey, come here for a sec" Cam said, bringing up the short list of dresses he'd picked and activating the holographic display.
Pausing long enough to slip off the blouse of her fatigues as she was always more comfortable in her olive drab pants and t-shirt, she turned back to the holo images. "Which do you like best?" she asked.
Picking out four dresses, Cam displayed each one side by side, "how about one of these?"
Kara considered each one, looking them over carefully. "I think I like the blue one best."
Cam nodded as he cleared the others and put in an order for one in Kara's size. Well, maybe a size smaller. Confirming the order, Cam looked up at Kara, "ok, now that has been settled, all we need to decide is when to have the wedding. The Commodore has agreed to officiate and all she wanted to know was when"
Kara hugged Cam. "What about two days after we leave here?" she asked. They would be busy with the diplomats and solving the murders, but once they left the system, they would have several days' travel to get back to the Federation. As far as she was concerned, that would be the ideal time to get married.
Cam thought about it. As the situation stood, there wasn't any better opportunities coming that he could see, and maybe a wedding would be good for the crew after what had happened. Taking a long, deep breath, Cam finally nodded, "I agree, it would be good to get it over and done with"
She was of the same sentiment. Sort of. "That was an awfully big sigh. Sure you aren't getting cold feet?" she asked, half teasing.
Cam quickly turned to face Kara, "no, no ofcource not, I want to marry you more than anything. It's just the last time I tried this, the bride ended up running away from the wedding, leaving me at the alter"
Kara leaned back and looked Cam in the eye. "I'm not going to leave you at the alter. And I must say, I'm glad she did because that means I get to have you instead."
Cam smiled, "well, you know, if at first you don't succeed..." He said, leaning over and giving Kara a kiss on the cheek.
She swatted him on the arm. "So encouraging." She gave him another kiss on the cheek. "So, now we have a dress and a tentative date, what's next on the agenda?"
Rubbing his arm where Kara had hit him, Cam thought through his mental list, ~dress, date, York, type of wedding and location~ he thought, counting them out on his fingers, "well, all I can think of is selecting a maid of honour for you. Of course that's entirely up to you, but what about Sergeant Beckinsale?"
That didn't take much thinking. "I think Amarylis would be perfect. How about you? Do you have someone in mind for a best man?"
Cam simply shook his head, "everyone I know is either here or dead. All my friends and loved ones are on this ship, but I have no idea who to ask to be my best man"
"Why not Colonel Raine?" Kara asked.
Cam wasn't sure about Colonel Raine. Even though he was now an officer, he was still a grunt through and through, and asking an officer, especially a Bird Colonel, just wasn't something Non-Com's did, "I don't know. I mean, I'm sure he'd be honoured to but I'm just not sure how to ask him" Cam said, trying not to give away the fact that Raine actually intimidated Cam a little.
"Yeah, but weren't you his XO when he was in your position?" Kara asked. "Surely he wouldn't mind."
Cam sighed, thinking it through again. Kara was right, Colonel Raine would be more than likely to accept the honour, but it still didn't make Cam feel any better about asking him. After a moment, Cam nodded, "alright, I'll ask him"
Kara gave Cam another kiss and stood back. "Now that that's settled, I'm going to take a shower." She gave him an impish grin. "Want to join me?"
Cam smiled, "you don't have to ask me twice" he said, quickly standing up and walking over to Kara
She unlaced her boots and set them inside her bedroom, then stripped off her BDUs. "Perfect," she teased, heading for the shower.
Quickly following suit, Cam followed Kara into the shower, turning off all the lights as he did.
