Deadly Diplomacy

Timeline: After the trial

Standing in a turbolift en route to the bridge, Cam was going to ask Sam to officiate at his wedding. This was his first wedding and he was feeling a little nervous about asking his superior officer to conduct it, but it was what he and Kara had decided to do so there was no other way.
Stepping off onto the bridge, Cam looked around for Sam before heading down to the CO's Ready Room door and tapping the chime.
"Come in," Sam said, grateful for a break from paperwork. Even though she wasn't defending Vance, she still had far too many reports to file on the matter. She put the PADD she was reading aside and straightened a stack of PADDs witing for her attention and stood to face the door.
Quickly stepping inside, Cam walked over to stand in the other side of Sam's desk, "excuse me Ma'am, can I discuss something personal with you?"
She raised an eyebrow and nodded. She moved aside another pile of PADDs and gave Cam her full attention. "Of course. Please sit down and tell me what's going on."
Taking the offered seat, Cam looked over at Sam, "I asked sergeant Melo to marry me and she said yes. I was wondering if you'd be willing to conduct the marriage?"
A slow smile spread across Sam's face. "Congratulations, Captain," she said. "I'll be happy to officiate. When would you like the ceremony performed?" It would be nice to have a wedding -- even a small one -- to help distract her from recent events.
"We're not sure yet, in fact the only parts that we've thought about are the Marine Arch and having you conduct the ceremony. I'm afraid I'll have to get back to you on that" Cam said, starting to think about when would be a good time. Right now most of the crew were on shore leave and things were quiet, but Cam wasn't expecting it to last very long as Starfleet Command had a talent for handing out assignments without prior warning. "If you don't mind me asking Ma'am, as a Betaziod yourself, what would you expect to have for a wedding? Kara said she wanted something simple and I suggested a Military style wedding but I'm just not sure"
"I'm probably not the best person to give advice," Sam answered with a wry smile. "Damon and I got married on our way back to the Calypso. We stopped at the first place that would let us get married without any waiting. Unless Kara wants her family involved, you can have a simple Military wedding as soon as you wish. The number of people you want involved depends entirely on you."
Cam sighed, "I had no idea how difficult planning a simple wedding could be" he said, returning Sam's smile, "it looks like I've got area things to discuss with Kara" he said, standing from his chair, "I'm sorry to waist you time Ma'am"
"It wasn't a waste," Sam assured him. "When you have a date and time, let me know and I'll make sure I'm free. You can use any of the lounges on board, or hold it in one of the VIP lounges. Let me know what you both prefer."
Cam nodded, "I'll do that, hopefully you won't have to wait long for an answer" he said, standing from his chair, "excuse me ma'am"
Sam stood and smiled. "You're excused." It seemed to be the season for weddings. Hers and Damon's two years ago, Admirals Burke and Hunter last year, and now Cam and Kara.
She glanced at her stack of PADDs and decided she would rather take a break and go see how Damon was doing. The PADDs would always be there when she returned.
