Mission: Deadly Diplomacy
ON
After avoiding his check up, Max walked back to his quarters. He didn't like doctors. It was only in rare moments where he put up with them, and when he did, Max made sure to give them hell.
He finally made it to his room and tapped in his code to enter. What Max needed right now was a stiff drink and some better clothes. Perhaps a suit.
As the doors opened, Max detected a light smell of hot oil and chocolate. He paused for a moment and couldn't help but notice the soft jazz playing at a low volume in the darkness of the room. For a moment, he felt the need to grab onto a weapon, but a small smile formed on his face as he stepped further into the room, allowing the doors behind him to close, encasing it in complete darkness.
"Hmm.. I highly doubt an assassin would attack me with chocolate and jazz music. However, they have tried everything else so they might be getting desperate. Computer. Lights please." Max said in a commanding, but soft tone.
A soft chuckle came from the bedroom. "You never know. It could be a subtle plot to throw you off your guard." The voice was female, amused and very familiar.
"You know." Max replied, adding a chuckle of his own. "Your lucky we are married because your legally entitled to half my tricks." He walked slowly from the living room area and into the opened door of the bedroom, where the music became slightly louder.
Max stopped at the doorway, as the lights slowly rose up, but not too quickly. As if programmed ahead of time. He crossed his arms over his chest and leaned against the frame of the door, focusing his eyes on the figure in front of him. "So.. business or pleasure?"
She raised an eyebrow. "If you have to ask..." She tossed her hair back over her shoulders and gave him a haughty look. He'd gone missing twice and all he could say was business or pleasure? "I can make it business."
No, she really didn't want to deal with business right now. "Better yet, I'll leave you to take a shower and relax." She stood and grabbed her combadge from the bedside table. "Talk to my assistant in the morning about setting up an appointment."
He was between her and the door, unfortunately. It made a prim exit a little awkward. Still, she brushed past him and headed for the door. "See you later, Admiral."
Max grabbed her arm and pulled her back. "I don't make appointments." He said, with a hint of a smile as he turned her around and pulled her into a deep kiss. He kissed her like he hadn't kissed her for years. As he placed his hand on the side of her face, his hand slowly caressed her cheek before it ran back through her hair. As he slowly pulled back, Max opened his eyes and let out a relieved sigh as a smile remained on his face. "I'm sorry. I was trying to be funny. I've had a long couple of months and your the only person I have been wanting to see through out the whole time."
Kathryn let out a long, slow sigh. "I've been worried sick about you. First the ship disappears, then I hear you and a number of the crew have been kidnapped." She kissed him again, slowly. When she pulled back, she rested her forehead against his cheek. "I see you haven't lost your horrid sense of humor."
"I can lose my memory, but I will always have that." Max laughed, wrapping his arms around her. "Come on. I want to show you something. I think you'll like it." He smiled, pulled back slightly as he looked at her lovingly. "I've been saving it for you."
"Oh? What's that?" she asked. She ran a hand up and down his back and smiled softly. She was curious as to what he wanted to show her, but she was also enjoying being close to him again.
Max led her to his bedroom and sat her down on the bed. With a smile, he reached under the bed and slid out a small lock box. He quickly tapped in the lock, than place his finger in the prompt for his print. This unlocked the box and allowed him to open it and retrieve a rolled up paper inside. It looked like an old piece of paper, sort of like a parchment.
After closing the lock box, causing it to lock again automatically, he stood up and walked back over to Kathrine. Still with the smile on his face, he sat down next to her and removed the small string that kept the paper from unrolling. "While going to investigate some uncharted territory, the crew got transported unexpectedly to a planet and, in the middle of the transport, everyone lost their memories. Well Good old Max, in typical Max fashion, somehow managed to find himself secluded from the others. Distancing himself. You should have seen him, he was an awful mess. But anyway, he was haunted by the image. An image he couldn't remember who, but an image that just wouldn't go away. So, in order to make sense of things, Old Max took to drawing this image repeatedly. In a hopes to unlock the mystery somehow. And this was the image." He smiled as he unrolled the picture and revealed a detailed sketch of Kathrine. "It seems, even without his memory, Max still knew who came first in his mind." Max whispered softly to her.
Kathryn looked at the image with wonder. "He did that?" She didn't know Max had such a talent. She leaned forward and kissed Max, touched by the story and the picture.
Max returned the kiss as he wrapped his arms around her gently and held her close. As he pulled away slightly, a small laugh escaped his lips as he locked eyes with her again. "Old Max has talents even he wasn't aware of." He placed his hand on hers and cleared his throat a bit. "I was thinking of getting back to you, the entire time. I want you to know that, no matter where I am, you are always with me in my heart and in my mind."
She blinked back a tear and hugged him. "I know, and I love you, too," Kathryn whispered. "I wanted so desperately to come find you," she admitted. She understood on a more personal level why Sam chose to take a few weeks of shore leave and go look for Damon. She would have done the same if she'd had the chance.
"You are a wonderful man, Max Hunter." She kissed him slowly for several long seconds. "Can I frame it and hang it in our quarters?" she asked. She would love to have it as a permanent reminder.
"Of course. I would hang it in my office, but I have no official office and my one shuttle is currently in use. So, I have no means of keep it safe and secret. Besides, I guess, I can always draw more. But, why draw when all I need to do is close my eyes and see those lovely eyes of yours." Max smiled as he leaned forward and kissing her back, passionately.
After a while, Kathryn pulled back. "I prepared some fondue for dinner, but if I turn it down, we can use it for a midnight snack." She took his hand and headed back into the bedroom. "Or breakfast."
