Mission: Deadly Diplomacy
ON
Now that things were settling down, Sam wanted to have a chat with Lieutenant Jones and see if she could help him get back to his ship. She tapped her combadge. "York to Jones, could you meet me in my ready room?"
Ignatz made his way to the captain's ready room, Things had not gone well when talking to the captain of the ship he had been assigned to, He had been reported AWOL after he had disappeared along with the shuttle. The position he had been assigned to had been filled by someone else. He would need the captain to vouch for him when they reached a starbase. Finally he arrived on Sam's doorstep and rang the doorbell.
"Come in," Sam said, turning her console to the Federation logo. She'd been filing reports and going over the day's correspondence while she waited for the Lieutenant.
"Lieutenant Jones, reporting as ordered." Ignatz said as he entered the room. "It seems my post was already filled, and I'm listed as AWOL, Ma'am. So If you'd be kind enough to put in a good word to get me off the hook for the charges, I'll keep quiet and keep out of your way till we reach a starbase..."
"Of course. Once the facts of your disappearance are reported, that should be cleared up," she assured him. "Although I can't do anything about the position being filled." She paused for a moment. "What was your assignment?"
"Diplomat cum Chaplin for the USS Norwich. They were due to make contact with some new species out where they were patrolling and they were a highly religious race." Ignatz replied. "They figured on killing two birds with one stone."
An idea came to Sam and she smiled. "I don't have a diplomat on teh Calypso. Nor do I have a Chaplain. I could arrange to have you transferred here, if you'd like." He seemed to fit in well and thre were a few people on her ship that didn't want to talk to a counselor. Perhaps a chaplain was exactly what they needed?
Ignatz was taken aback, "I'd be happy to. Maybe someone is looking out for both of us." Ignatz said with a wink. "I'm all yours, then, Captain."
Sam chuckled. "I'm not sure Damon would appreciate that remark." She entered her authorization into the computer and then smiled. "Welcome aboard, Lieutenant Jones. You're the newest member of the crew."
Ignatz raised an eyebrow, "Thank you very much, Captain. If you ever need my services, I'll happily take very good care of you." he finished with a wink.
"Thank you again, but right now, I'm good. Get settled in, meet Commander Vance and get familiar with the ship. I'm sure you'll be busy before long."
"Yes Ma'am, I'll get settled in check in with Commander Vance, likely the counselor too, make sure we aren't stepping on each other's toes." Said Ignatz
"Good idea," Sam said. "Before I let you go, is there anything you need from me?"
Ignatz stopped dead in his tracks, "Hmmm, right now I can't think of anything. With the long imprisonment, I've got enough back pay coming that once we hit a starbase. I think I'll be ok until then, thank you." He smiled at Sam broadly, "And if there's anything you want, you come see me, even if it's just for a sympathetic ear or a shoulder to cry on. I'm kinda good at that sort of thing." Ignatz turned then, and with a bit of a spring to his step, he wandered off, muttering to himself, "XO, Doctor, Councilor, quartermaster, butcher, baker, candlestick maker..."
