Sam walked over to Damon, wrapped her arms around his waist and hugged him. "When Nero said it was our fault, he was thinking about the mining facility we destroyed. There's no doubt that this place is somehow connected to the mines."
Damon wasn't sure how to react to this news. What he was feeling, however, was very clear to him. It was an old feeling, a feeling he had thought he moved beyond. Rage. Rage, remembering what the mines had done to him and his wife. Rage, that they were now back into a place with no chance of escape or survival. Rage, that he was in a very real way responsible for the situation everyone was now in. Despite the fire inside, he refused to let it show, even in absent thought where Samantha would notice. He let it wash over him like a wave and silently promised himself how this would end.
She looked up at Damon for a long moment. "We need to find a way out of here before anyone else dies. I just don't know how."
"No one else is gonna die Ma'am." Amarylis piped up overhearing Sam. "None of ours anyways."
Damon knew the Sergeant's intentions were right, but it was very probable that more of theirs would die. "She's right." Damon said with a tight smile while looking at his wife.
Max began to groan slightly as his eyes opened. He looked around, but his vision was still a bit hazy, so he put his hand on his head and sat up slowly. "I know I sometimes drink excessively, but honestly don't think I would have taken it this far." He said with a slight groan and soft voice as his eyes slowly, and finally, adjusted to the dimness of the light and his surroundings.
Slowly he stood up and began to look around, getting a better sense of what was going on and where he was he cleared his throat and notice Damon and Sam. "Does stuff like this happen a lot to you guys?"
"Payback for destroying an illegal mining facility that ran by slave labor," Sam said. "Apparently the same group runs this place."
"That means yes." Damon quipped, trying to lighten the mood a bit.
Sam grinned, appreciating Damon's humor, and let go of Damon and turned to Amarylis. "We're going to do all we can to stay alive, but we're going to need help on this one."
"You have my sword ma'am." Amarylis replied assertively.
"I know. When the time comes, we'll need that," Sam replied.
"And more." Damon added cryptically.
Korok had sat with his back against the wall, his arms on his knees and his head had rested on his arms as before. He listened quietly before he looked up and growled "What needs to be done, Samantha York?"
"That's what we're trying to figure out," she replied.
Max stepped away for a moment and looked around slowly. He had been in situations like this before and always managed to find a way out, but this wasn't just his situation. There were more lives and people involved then just him. Max had to think this one through carefully and help them figure out a way to get out of here with everyone still here.
Finally he crossed his arms over his chest and walked back to the group. "York. Raines. Do you two have a moment?"
Sam walked over to Max. "We have nothing but time, it seems."
Damon tilted his head to Samantha, gesturing that she was right.
Sam wasn't sure what Max wanted to discuss, but was pretty sure he wanted information about Nero and how Sam and Damon were responsible. She had no problem telling him, but wasn't sure if this was the right place to talk. Too many potential listeneres.
Korok growled low to himself. His dark eyes flashed he was tired of this. He was tired of people sitting in corners and preparing plans, that never seemed to do anything but waste air and words. He hurt in places he did not know could hurt. He however did not have any answers at the moment because he did not know the question. "So, Samantha York, this mining facility that you interrupted slave trade on at one time do you think that we are in the location now?"
"No. That facility was destroyed. The Federation went in afterwards and cleaned it out," Sam replied. "And we're a long ways from that sector of space. No. This is simply another one of their holdings."
"There are many then and this piece of trash named Nero, he runs them all?" Korok tried to figure out a few things, his capture had probably not been so incidental.
"I doubt it," Sam replied. "I've never run into Nero before. He wasn't part of the mining operation, so I can't really answer your question."
Korok listened and then stared at the ground quietly and wondered how he could possibly help this woman who led this crew. He was not an officer and yet there had to be some skills he possessed that would be useful. "Has anyone heard of anyone make an attempt to escape this place?
"As none of us have been here before and we are separated from the other prisoners, there's no way to know," Sam again replied.
"I guess then I will endeavor to be chatty with my next opponent." Korok said in his low growl even as he wondered if no one had heard rumors.
"This is a place where everybody is a trained killer. Anyone trapped in this place will have thought about getting out. These people have built this place to hold our type." Damon said, responding to Korok. "I'm not saying we don't pay attention to what we see and hear, what I am saying is don't do anything rash and get yourself or others killed."
Sam nodded, agreeing with her husband.
"Sir we need to take the focus off of you and Commodore York. Nero is fixated upon you two and anything else is a distraction. He thrives on control and wants us to submit to his fantasy. Failure to do so will deviate from his plan and he will not kill us until his fixation is satisfied. He wants us to feel his pain, he wants us all to suffer. We must remain defiant if we want to remain alive." Amarylis chimed in.
"It's not Nero, it's the man behind him that's responsible," Sam said. She was going to add more, but the bolt on the door slid open and she turned to see what the guards wanted this time.
"York," the guards said. "Your turn."
She glanced at Damon for a moment, then turned and followed the guards.
