Korok left the twins and Roberta and headed to his own quarters, a little closet type space near one of the Lounges. He grabbed a PADD and put every thing he could on it about weddings and left. He had a ton of stuff to read to understand the human woman's world and the ship had an arboretum and he was curious to find out how different it was in conjunction to the Ares. He stepped in and breathed deep. It smelled similar and he smiled he liked the plants, it reminded him of the outdoors on Bajor where he spent part of his life.
He started to walk around and stopped near some ferns he looked at them and then walked some more as he read about how men wore this thing called a tuxeedo. The picture looked highly uncomfortable and Korok sighed and then growled to himself. "Why do humans do this?
Lizzie walked out of the workroom with a container of special formula to add to the water supply for the planets. They were looking a little off and needed more nutrients.
When she saw the Klingon she stopped and smiled. "Hi. Can I help you with anything?"
Korok jumped slightly at the sound of anothers voice. He slid his PADD in his apron pocket and moved and gestured that he would take the container from her.
"Oh, I didn't think any one would be here at this time of the day." His voice came out a low gruff growl. But it was apparent that he was not a angry man and he smiled back. "I was reading about humans and their wedding apparel and other rituals, like rings and ceremonies. But I came here to um... focus on that." He turned a deep shade of Burgundy as if he were highly embarrassed about the topic. And well I like the outdoors and arboretums, help. It smells somewhat like Bajor when it was not being overrun by Cardassians." If the woman looked closer she could tell that the Klingon was not a pure bred, but partially Bajoran as he had their nose ridges.
"The arboretum is open all the time. With three shifts, there really isn't a good time to be closed," Lizzie said, grinning cheerfully. "Flowers are a big part of weddings, too. I have a number on the upper level and with a little notice I can grow one from some seeds in the back. Do you have anything in mind?"
Korok got a extremely perplexed look on his face. "That is part of what perplexes me. I have a woman whom, that I consider my mate for life, but her children and probably she does too, wish for a wedding. This, he held up the PADD makes it seem so complicated so I came here to look at plants and flowers and well..." He tilted his head, his growling voice grumbled "What do human women like I could use suggestions and it would be most helpful when I figure out how and where to propose."
Lizzie's face puckered slightly as she thought about it. "Well, most women like flowers. Most women like being told how much they're loved," Lizzie said. "But not all. I don't know what your girl likes. I'd suggest asking her. Does she want the whole nine yards with flowers and a fancy dress, or does she just want a simple ceremony with the Captain? I think you should ask her."
Lizzie checked to see if anyone else was around. "That being said, there's a nice little space behind the waterfall that would make a lovely spot to propose. If you'd like, I can show you."
"Really? Maybe she doesn't like flowers, this is a very complex thing, but yes I would like to see this spot." Korok said confused more now then ever flowers, no flowers, rings, funny suits.
Lizzie led him through the trees to where a waterfall cascaded from the ceiling into a deep pool of water. The five meters behind the waterfall appeared to be filled with fern, but as they got closer, a small path emerged.
She checked a small light that shone a dull green before slipping through the fern. She stopped in a dimly-lit area. Fern surrounded it on three sides. The fourth was the back of the waterfall. A forcefield kept the water from drenching them. A bench sat near the back, facing the water.
"The light indicates whether this place is occupied or not. Couples find it romantic; so, to keep them from being interrupted, we installed the light. Red means someone's in here. Green means the coast is clear."
"I see" Korok growled softly as he tried to envision Roberta and himself there and realized his mind wandered a bit too far as he thought about her swimsuit and how she had looked in it. He shook his head, it had been the sound of the waterfall that reminded him of the time they had been to the beach. Or had that been one of those dreams. "I gather that women like this better then most of the men do." Korok growled softly to himself "I'll have to keep this in mind." He was perplexed beyond belief. He tilted his head at the woman "Do you have children?"
"I have a monkey, but it's not quite the same thing," Lizzie said. "Do you? Have children, I mean; not have a monkey."
Korok shook his head and frowned a bit as he growled "No, I have no monkeys unless the children behave like one but yes I do have children but not in a typical sense." Korok stepped out of the alcove. He did not want to be seen by anyone who should not see him with this woman in a intimate area. He did not need rumors to get back to Roberta, she could get testy at times. "My mate does, she adopted two children and they then filled my head with concerns and questions about, flowers, weddings, proposals, rings and if I was their father now." He shook his head again "So, I wondered if you could relate as I have little experience in those matters and wanted to know if this is a normal thing for children to do."
"From what I've seen, yes. Many cultures want a sense of family. This comes through marriage. So, your mate wants marriage, her kids want you to be their father." She shrugged. "But as everyone is different, the best thing you can do is ask her questions. From what you've said, I gather she wants the whole nine yards: a wedding with flowers, a cake, a dress, bridesmaids..."
Korok nodded then growled thoughtfully "Humans seem to have a odd sense of desires for extravagant things at times. The Bajoran's however have even odder customs. I think the klingon way should have sufficed but I am told that my way is not sufficient per the children."
"Marriage is about compromise. You give a little, she gives a little, and you find something that makes you both happy," Lizzie said.
Korok glowered at her for a long moment and then nodded sharply as if he took her words to heart. "Has anyone every held their wedding here?" He gestured to the arboretum as a whole.
"A few. Most prefer the holodeck." Lizzie shrugged. "I don't know why. The trees and flowers are real here. No holodeck can give you the exact feel of a living, growing plant."
Korok smirked or smiled at that. "I agree live plants are better. Can we actually come in and pick flowers?" Korok was thinking about Olivia and how she might picking flowers now and again. "Or can I actually get live flowers for tables?" It was a two fold question but his mind often went to his job, he had a future at Bazinga's, if he wanted. Korok enjoyed his job and was not sure if he would be able to 'be' anything in Starfleet, he would not want to leave his new family.
"Yes and no," Lizzie said. "I have some bushes and trees you can pick a few flowers off of, and others you can't. It all depends on the amount of flowers they have at the time. There's always something, but it changes every few days. Or, if you want them on a more regular basis, I could grow a few bushes just for that purpose."
"One of the Andrews children is a little girl. She and I suspect others of her age would love the ability to come and pick real flowers to occasionally share with family members. I for that matter would like to benefit of giving my future wife fresh flowers now and again. Some Bajoran Lilacs, perhaps?" Korok looked around to see what was available. "They grow rapidly and reproduce flowers often."
"The children come through here every month," Lizzie informed him. "They usually don't pick flowers, though. Most of the time they take home potted plants to grow themselves. However, there are a few lilac bushes on the top floor. You're welcome to bring her here and let her pick a couple to take home with her."
"I am sure she will enjoy either or both and Ma'am I think I took up enough of your time. So unless you want help in moving more fertilizer or whatever it is you were in the process of moving when I interrupted, I should probably go." Korok said as he gestured toward the container that Lizzie had held. I will contact you if my future wife wishes to hold her wedding here." With that Korok gave the woman a short quick nod and turned to leave. The PADD he held he tapped lightly on his fingertips, he still had a lot to think about.
