The Hunters and Gatherers Head Out

Hans had three spears with him as he started towards the edge of the encampment, the fact he could have two people accompany him was a good thing. He held up the other two and made the announcement.

"Have Spears who wants to travel?" He called out.

"Hey Mon, I will attend with you this day." Mojo had his own spear, the tip was dark like burnt coal. He handed Hans a leaf wrapped sandwich of sorts. "Ms. Gaia said you would enjoy that during your travels this day. She wishes us great success in returning with much fresh game for food."

"She is a kind one." Hans accepted the food. "I'll be sure to get her something worthy of her skills for dinner." He nodded as he glanced her direction.

Gaia had glanced up when Hans had said that not sure exactly how to take his comment. But she knew she would not be able to go with on their small exdpidition instead she had sent the two that seemed to always help her out so she sent Jenna with the gatherers and Mojo with the group of hunters.

Jenna stood to one side and waited of the rest of the gatherers. Berries and grains were on her list today to obtain for their evening meal.

Mandy approached the other girl who joined the hunter-gatherer group. "Hello." She smiled in a friendly manner. "I'm Mandy, what's your name?"

"Jenna, I help Gaia prepare meals." Jenna smiled back "So, are you going to be gathering fruits, grains or spearing some poor unfortunate creature."

"I was here more for the trapping, actually, but should that venture prove unsuccessful, well, I suppose gathering will have to do." Mandy said. "It may not be clean work, but it is necessary if we are to keep up our strength. Working like this, we will need protein to help us maintain our muscle mass." She frowned, where had that fact come from? "I don't know how I know that. That just feels so weird."

"The jungle is not the safest place so please remember to look all around you and especially up." Hans told them. Most people do not look up on reflex and in a jungle there are creatures that will literally 'drop' onto you."

Jenna nodded as her eyes widened "What kinds of creatures should we expect to see out there?"

Mandy took the advice, knowing the jungle wasn't her home turf, and mentally stored the reminders for later. Look up. Perhaps that translated to keep spear pointed up. And also to think vertical in her traps.

"From what I've seen so far, there's nothing too dangerous," Lizzie said, walking up to the group. "Hi, I'm Elizabeth. I'm here to see what plants are out there. What about you two?"

"Grains, fruits." Jenna replied "and I'm Jenna"

"Trapping. Possibly hunting, but mostly trapping I think." Mandy said, greeting the newcomer, Elizabeth. "I'm Mandy." She smiled.

"I am Hans, Good to know you both." He looked at them and nod. "I have flashes a long reptiles that were in trees as well as exotic mammals that were less evolved but still aggressive." He shrugged. "I suppose dat is more of what I am thinking, better to be prepared and not need to use those tactics than come across badger unaware?"

Jenna nodded "That is probably a good suggestion be aware of, stay alert, stab things with the pointy end of the stick."

Maria walked up to the group. "Hi. Mind if I join you?"

Jenna smiled "You are welcome to join us. I am Jenna, that is Mandy, Elizabeth" Jenna said as she pointed to each of the other woman "and the gent there is Hans."

"I'm Maria. At least, that's what my wrist says."

"Welcome, Maria," Elizabeth added. "And keep an eye out for things dropping down from the trees. Monkeys, coconuts, headhunters." She wasn't sure what a headhunter was, or if it lived in trees, but it sounded ominous and seemed to fit the situation.

Chuckling, Lizzie nodded to Hans. "Let's see what we can find, shall we?"
