Mission:
What Dreams May Come?
Location: Kara's quarters
ON
Kara had the day off and she was going to spend it avoiding everyone. If she couldn't sleep, at least she could avoid conflict, or most of it, anyway.
She dressed comfortably in a pair of sweat pants and a t-shirt with the Marine Corps logo on it and stretched out on her couch to read.
Walking along the Marine Deck, Cam had just got off duty for the day after a long double shift. He was still feeling a little guilty over how he'd come down on Kara over such a minor offence. He must have felt threatened at the time and needed to let off some steam. As he walked, he came across the doors to Kara quarters. Giving a sigh, he figured he should apologise for how he had acted. Brushing down his duty uniform, attempting to seem tidier, he tapped the door chime and waited to see if she would answer
"Come in," she said, not bothering to get up. Whoever it was, she was going to hear what they had to say and send them on their way.
Straightening up a little, Cam opened the door and walked in, "hay Kara, got a moment?" He asked, standing just inside her quarters.
Kara looked up, surprised to see Cam at her door and sat up. "Sure," she said, setting her book down.
"Alright" Cam said, more to himself than to Kara, "I'd like to apologise for the way I acted yesterday. I shouldn't have come down on you so hard. So, I'm sorry" he said, bowing his head slightly.
That was the last thing she expected to hear from Cam. "Why? I screwed up and you called me on it. What do you have to be sorry for?"
"It was a minor mistake, I shouldn't have snapped like that. So, to make up for it, I thought I could take you out for a nice dinner in Ten Forward"
She stood and walked over to Cam. "You did nothing to apologize for. I was the one who messed up. You're not obligated to do anything by way of apology." Although the idea of dinner with Cam was nice, she didn't want him to feel obligated to take her out.
Cam frowned, "it's not an obligation, this isn't some duty I have to suffer through. I want this to work this time and I don't want our duties to come between us"
She looked in his eyes for several moments and then smiled. "I would love to have dinner with you."
Cam smiled, "can I give you a hand to get dressed?"
She gave him an impish grin. "Think you can handle it?"
Cam's smile widened, "oh I think I can handle it" he said, stepping closer to her and putting his hands on her waist, "so where shall we start?"
Kara put her hand on Cam's shoulders. "That all depends on you."
Looking into her eyes, Cam slowly started to remove Kara's t-shirt, stopping where her ribs started to gauge her reaction, "tell me if I'm going too fast"
Kara's heart began to pound. Yes, they probably were going too fast, but it seemed like their relationship had been growing for a long time now. And after all the sleepless nights and nightmares his touch felt incredible. She licked her lower lip before answering. "No, it's not too fast."
Swallowing his nerves, Cam tried to relax. He could feel Kara's breathing increase in speed slightly ease into it, don't rush her. If she says stop, let her go he thought to himself as he proceeded to remove Kara's shirt. Dropping her shirt on the floor beside them, Cam unzipped his jacket and slowly slid it off, allowing it to fall to the floor, "I care about you Kara" he said, brushing his hand through her hair, "but if you don't think your ready, I can wait. I don't want to push you into something you don't want to do"
"To be honest, I don't like to rush things. And it's been a very long time since I was in any kind of relationship." She took a deep breath and put her hands on his waist. "At the same time, I care about you, too." She rubbed her hands up and down his sides as she spoke, not sure what she wanted to say or if she was even making sense after the weeks of sleep dep. "Maybe we should just see where this goes because ... right now ... I'm not sure I can push you away -- and I don't know if I want to."
Cam nodded, "alright, this can wait" he said, grabbing Kara's hands and gently kissing the back of them, "we both could use some rest anyway. I'll come by tomorrow after my shift. Get some sleep" he said, leaning in and kissing her forehead
The thought of Cam leaving made her grab his hand and stop him. "Please, don't go." She hadn't made herself very clear before, obviously. "I want you to stay."
"Ok, if you're sure" Cam said, turning back to face her, "now, where were we?" Leaning down, Cam started kissing the side of her neck, enjoying the smell of her hair
She tipped her head to the side to make it easier for him to kiss her neck as her hands went back to his waist and grabbed a fist full of t-shirt. "Are you?" she asked.
Cam stopped suddenly, than pulled back looking at Kara curiously, "what do you mean? Of course I am. If you're having second thoughts...."
Kara leaned forward and kissed him.
Cam blinked in surprise, "ok then, that answers that question" he said, putting his hand back on her hips than slowly sliding them down
She smiled up at him. "Good. I don't want you to doubt that I care about you and that I want to be with you."
"I love you Kara, and I never want to loose you" he said, before glancing towards the bed, "hmm, how about we skip dinner?"
Kara followed his gaze and smiled. She put his hands back on her ribcage. "Yes, I think dinner can definitely wait."
Smiling playfully, Cam bent down, swept Kara up into his arms and carried her into the bedroom. Gently laying her onto the bed, Cam removed his shirt, revealing several criss-crossing scars
Kara's eyes followed the path of his scars, wondering what caused them. She gently reached up and caressed them with her fingers. Her eyes flashed up to his for a moment, then she leaned forward and kissed the largest of his scars.
Feeling a little self-conscious, Cam did his best to keep a smile on his face, "there's a story behind every one"
She felt the change in his mood, Kara ran her fingers across his scars in a gentle caress. "One day, I'd like to hear the stories. I want to know more about you, Cam." She didn't care about the scars on his torso. Her fingers moved to gently caress his chest as she looked up at him and smiled softly.
"Careful what you wish for. You may not like what you find" he said, running his fingers through her long dark hair, "but maybe I've finally found someone who will accept me for everything, my good points, my faults and my secrets"
"Cam, I know some of your secrets and I'm still here," she said. Even though he was the focus of some of her recent nightmares, she wasn't going to walk away from him. There was a lot more good in him and she was willing to work with the rest. Besides, she had her own problems.
Cam smiled, "well, we can get to that later. For now, let's just enjoy the moment. there's nothing that matters more to me than right now" he said, leaning down and kissing her deeply. "Right now, it's you and me"
That sounded perfect to Kara. She slipped her arms around his neck and pulled his head down to kiss him again.
