Mission: What Dreams May Come?
Location: York's Ready Room

[CONTINUED]

[OLD]

There was a moment of silence and then a slight sigh as they hear his voice come over the combadge. "You must be talking about Alexandra. I'll be there shortly, Commodore."

[NEW]

It didn't take him long to get to the Ready Room. Max was expecting a confrontation with Commodore York, although he didn't expect Alexandra to be getting in trouble in between that time. This sounded like a personal matter and he was being pulled in as an outside resource.

Max finally walked into the Ready Room, still out of uniform and in his trademark old fashion black suit. He had his hands behind his back and nodded slightly to York and Vance. He ended his gaze to Vance and let out a sigh, speaking in a harsh and stern tone of voice. "What did you do now, Alexandra?"

"Let me give you the short list?" Sam asked. She began to tick them off on her fingers. "Article 89, Disrespect of a Senior Officer; Article 92, Failure to Obey a Lawful Order; Article 131, Perjury -- especially to a Betazoid; Article 133, Conduct Unbecoming an Officer and Article 134, Being pigheaded when confronted with the evidence. I could add accessory to kidnapping and endangering the life of a Starfleet officer."

Sam looked at Max. "Even when presented with the vid, she lied." Her expression grew more somber. "I was not informed that kidnapping was part of the plan. It doesn't look like Ronnie was in on the charade."

"To be fair, I think Article 134 worded differently, but I can understand the frustration." Max added and then walked closer, sneaking a look to Vance before looking back to Sam. "You are right about that, Lieutenant Lancaster was not privy to the plan and was not originally debriefed for this mission. However, I am sure Damion is doing his best to keep her safe and letting her know whats going on. I know Wolf. He will do his best to keep her safe and well informed, also give her an option to come back safely. He knows the risks of having someone uninformed and untrained on a mission like this. He won't risk her life. I think what you need to ask yourself is will Ronnie risk hers to help him?"

"I think you know the answer to that," she told him coldly. "But whether Ronnie gives up her life to protect Wolfe or loses it because she was involved in something she didn't sign up for, there will be consequences."

She looked at Vance. "just like there are consequences for lying to your Commanding Officer about an operation she was not and should not be protected from."

"Now, Commodore. There is no need to go to such an extent. To begin, you were told completely of the reason for all this and, to keep whats going on a secret, you were not told the extent of the plan. Mainly, because it wasn't formed yet. I am sure had your holodeck situation not be a problem, you would have been informed. Because time is always working against you, as it comes almost all kinds of Starfleet officers, a decision had to be made and with Alexandra as an XO, the decision came to her. Just like it would have been to anyone else in that position." Max took a moment and let out a sigh as he place his hands behind his back.

"It's not that, Admiral. I didn't expect to be told all the details before the plan was executed. I'm angry because once Wolfe and Ronnie were gone, my Executive Officer chose to keep me in the dark. Even when I found the vid and confronted her with it, she continued to lie. She claims she was following your orders by doing so."

Admiral Max looked over to Vance slowly and then back to Commodore York. "I think your Executive Officer is having trouble remembering what branch of Starfleet, and of Intel, she works for. Last I checked, she was wearing Command Red, not Intelligence Grey." He took a moment and let out a sigh as he continued, feeling the need to cover for Vance because of their past history. "The confusion, I am afraid, is mine. I told your XO that I wanted to let you in on what was going on after the operation, she must have thought I meant the whole operation. Not the one to get Damion off the Calypso and maintain his cover. So, in a sense, she was following my orders. Just not in the way I meant."

He was very good at keeping his thoughts to himself, but she was pretty sure the Admiral was covering for Vance. "I'll accept that. This time." She didn't bother to hide the fact that she knew he wasn't being truthful.

She looked at Vance again. "But next time, I expect you to tell me what's going on. I don't mind if you want to get involved -- as long as Admiral Hunter is okay with it -- but your first responsibility is to the Calypso. Next time, I won't be so lenient. Dismissed."

Alexandra rose from her seat and left the room.

When Vance was gone, Sam turned to Max. "Thank you, Admiral. I wasn't looking forward to throwing her in the brig." She stood and walked to a cabinet by her bookshelf. "Can I offer you a drink?"

"Now, Captain. You know drinking on the job is against regulations." Max said sternly and then after a while smirked. "But since I am not officially here and am technically not working... I would love one."

Sam pulled out a bottle and two glasses. "As of ten minutes ago I am officially off duty for the evening."

She went to her conversation area and poured two glasses, setting them on the coffee table before taking a seat on the couch.

She waived to the opposite chair, indicating that she wished Max to join her. "I think you and I have a few things to discuss."
