Mission:
A Pirate's Life
Location: Holodeck 2

[45 minutes later]
Time always seemed to drag more slowly when you were waiting. For Sam, the 45 minutes seemed to take hours. At least, she told herself, this would give Cam plenty of time to get Kara and Amarylis out of wherever they were. She didn't think it would give them time to rejoin the Black Pearl -- and she wasn't sure she wanted them to with the large expanse of ocean between them -- but it gave her hope.

Jourdan outside the holodeck had accessed the main relays to the grid. The Borg Virus had managed to find its way into the holodeck computer, so the only way she could eliminate it for real was to take it offline and then reset the holodeck core. Luckily however she had isolated the holodeck computers from the main grid and trapped it.
"Right, lets try this" Jourdan said as she unclipped one of the power relays. In the holodeck the arch and doors appeared.
There was a distinctive sound of technology. Or, more specifically, of something coming on. Sam looked over at the wall and saw the arch and holodeck doors. "Computer, end program."
Again there was no change. "Well, let's see if we can give them a hand," she said, heading over to the arch.
"Ah, thats given us some sort of access" she said as she tried to open the holodeck doors. They opened slightly, but not enough for someone to fit through. Jourdan peeped her head through and looked at everyone in the room. She could only just fit her head and shoulders through.
"Hello Commodore. Is everyone alright in here?" she asked.
"Hello, Lieutenant. We're fine. What can we do to help get the doors open?"
"Ermm" Jourdan said. She leant out the doors and grabbed a hyperspanner, she threw it gently towards the other end of the arch. It bounced off a forcefield which stopped people from getting through the arch onto the holodeck. "Oh thats interesting, I didn't even know it could do that" Jourdan said.
"Thats the problem" she said spotting the console on the wall. Instead of it being the normal orange, yellow and purple LCARS it was instead green and black dots and circles which resembled the Borg language. "Commodore, there's been a Borg virus messing with all our systems. There's only one way I can think of dealing with this" Jourdan said.
She disappeared back outside the deck and opened the weapons locker on the other side of the corridor. A few seconds later her head and arm popped back through the holodeck doors.
"Stand back?" she said with a slight shrug.
Sam gestured for everyone to move off to the side and away from the doors.
She aimed the phaser at the Borgified console and fired. The console erupted in sparks and flames, the holodeck doors flew open and Jourdan fell through into the arch. However once the console had been destroyed the holodeck grid shut down, the program ended and leaving everyone stood there whilst Jourdan lay on the floor.
"I wasn't expecting that to work" she said looking up at the ceiling.
"I'm glad something did," Sam said, helping Jourdan to her feet. "Thank you, Lieutenant. A Borg virus would certainly explain the trouble we were having. I take it the rest of the ship is now virus-free?"
Jourdan after being helped up sorted herself out and picked up the phaser.
"Yes commodore. All free, thanks to Sparrowhawk. Its a good job we had a steam train aboard" Jourdan explained.
Sam remembered the steam train, but wasn't sure how it was involved in fixing the ship. "Would you mind explaining how a steam train helped stop a virus?"
Jourdan stopped for a moment.
"Erm technically it didn't. We had to purge all power ship wide, the Steam Train, since it doesn't rely on energy from warp power or fusion generators allowed us to run it and use its steam powered mechanism to run generators to supply power to a few consoles that allowed us to bring everything back online. Basically we were all alive because of a four hundred year old locomotive that was running off coal" Jourdan explained. "It will be all in my report though sir, which is going to probably be as long as my arm".
Sam shook her head, amazed at Jourdan's ingenuity. "You'll need to write that up for the SCE. Maybe submit it to one of your journals. It's remarkable that with all our advancements, we can still find ways to use old tech."
"Steam engine that awesome is it still here." Manning said joyfully. "I love old tec and one of my favorite sayings is don't forget the basic's"
"It is. You'll have to talk to Lieutenant Abbott later," Sam said, grinning at Manning. Sam looked around and counted her crew, relieved to see Cam, Kara and Amarylis.
"Okay, everyone, let's get out of here." Sam turned to Jourdan. "I'll leave the holodeck in your capable hands.
