Samantha needed to find out what happened while she was stuck on the holodeck. The best person to ask was her XO. She found Vance on the bridge. "Do you have a few minutes?" she asked.

"Welcome back Commodore." Vance said nodding affirmatively.

"Join me in my Ready Room?" Sam led the way to her office and headed for the replicator. She was pretty sure she'd need a drink for this. "Would you like something to drink?" she asked.

"Earl Grey Tea." Vance stated standing in the middle of the room. She knew what was coming next and would have to do her best to conceal the details of Wolfe's mission and the role the Calypso needed to play. Part of her wished the holodeck would have sealed, it would make her job much easier.

As the Commodore walked over to the replicator. A badger was enjoying a healthy dose of replicated earthworms and various grub. Noting the human was getting far too close to his delicious buffet, the badger curled it's lips back displaying it's razor sharp teeth and hissed at the woman cautioning her to distance herself from badger.

"You have a pet?" Sam asked Alexandra.

"No Commodore, I do not know where this creature originated from." Vance replied studying the feisty creature.

Sam tapped her combadge. "York to biology. Have you lost a badger?"

"Umm...yes, ma'am. He disappeared in the power outage." There was a long pause. "Have you seen him?"

"He is currently having a meal in my Ready Room. Could you send someone to take him back to his home? Normally, I wouldn't mind but he doesn't seem to want company and I do need to conduct business," she added humorously.

"Yes, ma'am, I'll send someone right up. Potter out."

Sam turned to Alexandra. "Drinks will have to wait. We'll also have to sit at my desk as I believe the sofa is too close to our friend for his comfort."

She went around her desk and took a seat. "So, what did I miss?"

"Lieutenant Wolfe was taken into custody by Admiral Hunter and is currently in transport to the medical facility. Lieutenant Lancaster has accompanied him to aid in his recovery. She requested a long term leave of absence in which I granted based on her emotional attachment to Wolfe. This bond I believed would compromise her abilities to perform efficiently.

The ship has been experiencing power failures and glitches. The borg virus I implanted in the ship during my time with the Borg had taken hold of the main computer. Lieutenant Abbott is currently working on rebooting the core." Vance stated simply not revealing too many details to York. She was plotting how to keep the Commodore out of her way in supporting Max and Wolfe.

"Yes, I know about the reboot. Jourdan filled me in. What I really want to know is why you didn't tell me Admiral Hunter was here, even after he asked to see me."

"You were occupied with the mourning of Major Mangalia and I did not want to disturb you. I assure you the Admiral and I resolved his visit."

There was more to it, Sam could tell Vance was holding something back. She'd gone out of her way to keep Max from meeting with Sam, using the funeral as an excuse. "And how was it resolved?"

"Admiral Hunter and I had a talk and the situation was resolved to both his and my satisfaction." Vance replied simply.

Lying to a telepath was never a good idea. Before she could comment, the door chime rang. "Come in."

"Sorry to bother you, ma'am. We're here for Billy." A young Ensign in teal nodded to the badger. "Sorry to be a bother, ma'am." He walked over to the badger, holding out a treat. The badger hissed at him and continued to eat his grubs.

The Ensign blushed and tried again. "Billy, come with me. I've cleaned out your home." Still, the badger failed to comply.

"You can try scooping Billy and his meal into a basket. He might be more amenable if he has his food with him," Sam said, trying not to smile at the situation.

With a nod the young man did just that. Billy swatted at him, but with his grubs and dirt in the basket, he quickly went back to eating happily.

With a nod, the Ensign took Billy and the basket and left.

Sam turned back to the matter at hand. She knew a little about the plan, both from Admiral Burke and Admiral Hunter. Why Vance thought it necessary to keep the details from her remained a mystery.

"Computer, where are Admiral Hunter and Lieutenant Wolfe?"

"Admiral Hunter is in his quarters. Lieutenant Wolfe is not on the ship."

Sam looked at Vance, one eyebrow quirked. "Care to explain?"

"I am not sure I understand your question Commodore. Lieutenant Wolfe is in transport where he should be. Admiral Hunter determined it best he remain behind as both myself and he entrusted Lieutenant Lancaster with his safety. There was no reason for both to go and Admiral Hunter has graciously offered his services to fill the void for Lieutenant Wolfe until a replacement is found." Vance replied again growing annoyed at Samantha's persistence.

In transport? With Ronnie? This was the second time Vance mentioned Wolfe and Ronnie leaving on a transport. There were so many undercurrents to what Vance said that Sam was having a hard time determining what she was sensing from the other woman. She would have to talk directly to Max as her XO was determined to keep this from her. Sam stood. "As you aren't willing to tell me what's going on, I see no reason to continue this discussion, Commander. You are dismissed."

Vance rose up resisting the urge to smile but instead look concerned. "I wish I had more to tell you Commodore, perhaps the Admiral will be of more help. Allow me to escort you to his quarters, with the recent power outages the Calypso has become quite hazardous."

"No, thank you. This IS my ship, Commander. I'm quite capable of getting round by myself, even with the recent power outage. Don't forget that," Sam said. "And in future, don't lie to a Betazoid." She smiled politely, but it didn't quite reach her eyes.

"And I am responsible for your safety Commodore." Vance shot back sternly. "Besides I believe what you are sensing is my troubles adapting to the Borg implants. I have been experiencing some conflicting emotions and thoughts, I was going to see the doctor to have it looked at. Perhaps this is making you sense deception. Remember Commodore, if I truly wished to lie to you, I have years of training allowing me to do so without detection. I simply have nothing more to offer, and if Admiral Hunter has something more I would like to know as well."

Sam had nothing more to say to her XO. She couldn't trust hte woman. She'd given Vance a chance to tell her what was going on and the woman lied. Sam was the Captain of this ship. She didn't require protection. Not from her XO. Especially not when she'd alreayd been briefed on the Intel mission. But she wasn't going to bring that up now. Vance would simply come up with another lie. "Good day, Commander."

Vance turned and left the room without saying a word. She did not expect to leave the room that easily, now she would have to go see Max before Samantha arrived. Then the two could determine what Sam needed to know, or how to keep her from knowing what was truly happening.
