Mission:
A Pirate's Life
Location: Marine Training Facility (gym), Deck 14
Walking along deck 14, Cam was heading for the Marine Corp Gym for some training and exersize. He'd just been released from sickbay after almost two weeks recovering from his encounter with the Borg, and he needed to get back into shape.
Coming into sight of the gym, Cam spotted Kara talking with a couple of Marines from her squad.
She paused when Cam entered the gym, knowing he was there before she actually saw him. That bothered her, but she wasn't sure why. She finished her conversation and turned to address him. "Congratulations on your promotion."
"Thanks, I feel all warm and fuzzy" Cam said, smiling, "I've just escaped from sickbay and I need to get back into shape, care to join me to work up a sweat?"
Kara couldn't help chuckling at the wording. "Sure. What do you have in mind? Something warm and fuzzy?"
"Come on Kara, I know you're desperate for it but geeze get your mind out of the bedroom" he joked, smiling boyishly, "no, seriously, I just need a workout and possibly a sparing partner"
"Look, Bourne," she said, poking him in the ribs, "You're the one who made the comment about working up a sweat. It's not my fault I called you on it." Her grin turned positively wicked. "I'll be happy to give you a good workout, as long as you don't mind ending up on your backside."
Cam snorted, "I can take you down with one had tied behind my back, or in this case one limp arm"
"Ha! You're on. You and your limp wrist are going down, Bourne."
"Oh bring it on Sergeant. Just remember, I'm your CO now" Cam said, walking over to one of the exercise mats
Kara followed him, noting how he moved so she could use it against him. "Doesn't matter what your position is right now. It'll be flat on your back before much longer."
"You wish" Cam said, moving to his ready stance, "we should have medics on standby"
"In case you get hurt?" she asked, taking a defensive posture opposite him. She balanced herself carefully, watching his technique to see how he would attack and defend.
"Over confidence is a weakness" Cam said, before leaping forward trying to grab hold of Kara
She quickly danced aside, spinning to get out of his way and turn to face him at the same time. She used her momentum to kick him in the leg to unbalance him. "You're not supposed to tell your opponent what your weakness is, Bourne. It's bad form."
Cam grinned, "just making it easy for ya. Can't have a command officer beating up his subordinates" he said, quickly spinning around with his leg extended and aimed for Kara's legs
She had to do a diving roll to avoid his leg, but when she came up she was crouched, ready to attack. She grabbed his leg and pulled with a twisting motion to bring him to the ground.
Before his back hit the ground, Cam reached around behind him and pushed himself back onto his feet, "well, now I know my arm works" he said, moving to another ready stance
Kara circled him, keeping just out of reach. He had a weakness -- besides his mouth -- she just needed to find out what it was.
As Cam followed Kara, making sure she didn't get behind him, he felt a shooting pain in his left side. Wincing at the pain, Cam changed his stance to favour his left side.
Kara knew that all she had to do was hit him hard on his left side. The way he was favoring it he was obviously in pain. At the same time, if he had an injury there, she didn't want to make it worse. Foolish man was probably pushing himself too hard too soon. Well, might as well go out big. She rushed him, going for a frontal attack to take him down without doing too much damage to his left side.
Taking the attack head on, Cam Grabbed Kara's arm and rolled her over his shoulder, landing her flat on her back. Straightening up, he turned to her, "what the hell was that?"
"Keeping you from going back to sickbay," she said, rolling back to her feet. "You should know better than sparring when you're injured." To prove her point, she kicked him in his left side.
Stumbling back, Cam groaned in pain, "A marine who can't handle a little pain has no use in the field" he said, straightening up again, "if your out in the middle of nowhere, miles from any medical care, with a phaser wound are you going to just give in? No! You'd push yourself so hard that the moment you reach help, you don't really care if it is an enemy camp"
Kara circled Cam and kicked him twice, again targeting his left side. Then she spun around and kicked him in the chest. "I think you should work on weight training until you're ready for this."
Having trouble breathing from all the kicks, Cam took the deepest breath he could and as soon as Kara threw another kick he grabbed her leg tightly, "fine" he said before bringing up his free hand and bringing it down on her leg shattering the bone.
Cam's demeanor had completely changed. His mind was now closed off, a battle mode he'd developed after years of conflict.
Kara cried out in pain and fall back onto the mat, biting down hard on her lip to keep from crying out again. With her other leg, she kicked as hard as she could, aiming for his most vulnerable spot: his groin. If she was going down, she was going to take him with her.
Kara's kick hit home, but it didn't have the desired effect. Instead in only made him angrier. Moving to stand over top of her, Cam started throwing punches, fracturing a bone in his hand with every miss.
