Mission: The Enemy Within: Lying in Wait
ON
Four hours and they Rhombus had yet to find them. Sam hoped it was because Leo and his men were causing trouble. That the reprogrammed nanites and the now-destroyed filtration device were taking their toll.
"Engineering, are transporters back online?"
=^= Aye Captain, =^= Mak called.
Since her meeting with Sergeant Beckinsale, Sam had been mulling over ideas and possibilities. They didn't have much time and she needed to get ready for when the Rhombus returned.
With her teams from the planet back on the ship, she had one less thing to worry about, but there was still the larger problem of the Borg ship itself. Had it been affected by the destruction of the facility on Tiberius IV? Had the Marines succeeded in disabling the air filtration system? And if so, why hadn't they sent word?
Sam stood and signaled to Lieutenant Hoffman, you did so well the first time I'm putting you in charge of the bridge. Notify me the moment you find the Borg ship."
She tapped her combadge as she walked to her ready room. "Ensign Tallas, Lieutenant Abbott, meet me in my ready room immediately."
"Commodore.." was all he Malcolm could say as the woman walked into her ready room totally ignoring him. He slumped into the chair heavily and began talking to himself in his head.' Ah crap, not this again. What if the Borg ships attacks us and the Commodores ready room is the first target, then that would leave me in charge and I'm not ready for a combat situation let alone my own command. What would the others think of me, the counselor, in charge of them. What would mom and dad think. Dad would probably be critical of the situation criticizing me for taking command at the first opportunity while mom would be proud. Me and dad would end up fighting and mom would wind up getting in between us to stop it and...' he stopped himself for a moment and let out a very wavy sigh 'I'm over thinking this, everything will be just fine. The Commodore will be but a few minutes then I can go back to being unimportant. Yeah, that works.' and with that he calmed down.
Tallas nodded and followed Commodore York into the Ready Room.
[Ready Room]
Sam turned to the other two when they joined her. "I want sensor ghosts of Cardassian ships. I want the Borg to think Cardassian ships are on the way. Can you do that?"
"Sensor Ghosts?!" Tallas replied slightly confused and off guard. She wasn't expecting such a complicated request, but she had done more with less before. "I-I-I don't know. I can try." She walked over to a console and started to tap away. "If I can divert a slight power increase to deflectors and pull files from training programs on the ship..." She began to trail off, speaking softly and mumbling to herself as her fingers danced all over the console. "Just like shooting womp rats back home!" Tallas suddenly yelled and looked around. "Oh... Sorry. That was random." He continued but then stop. "Does anyone even know what a womp rat even is?"
"Womp rat?" Jourdan asked confused.
"It's a reference to an old movie -- or series of movies -- from Earth," Sam said. "The question is, can we do this before the Borg ship returns?"
[Medical]
The medical staff had researched the reclamation of Borg and how to most effectively return a humanoid back to its pre-Borg state. Since Mangalia was gone, their order was to bring Bourne back first so that he could take charge of the Marines.
Kara paced back and forth in the reception area, eagerly awaiting word that Cam was himself again and able to at least take command of the Marines from sickbay, if not in person.
One of the nurses walked over to Kara. "Are you here for Master Sergeant Bourne?"
Kara stopped pacing and turned to face the woman. "Yes, I am. How is he?"
"He's out of surgery and in his room. Everything went according to plan and he will make a full recovery. The doctor wants him to stay here for a while to monitor his recovery."
"Can I see him?" Kara asked.
"If you wish, but he is most likely sleeping."
"That's fine," Kara said, eager to see for herself that Cam was okay.
She followed the nurse back to a small room and stopped in the doorway for several moments, watching Cam sleep. Then she went quietly to a chair near his bed and sat down. It didn't matter that he was unconscious; she just wanted to be by him for a little while.
[Ready Room]
Sam tapped on her combadge. "Lynx to the Captain's Ready Room."
"Aye," Eamon replied as he manned the Tactical station then nodded to his relief officer take over before heading into the Ready Room. He tapped the chime. "Eamon here," he called.
"Come in." When she saw Eamon she gestured to a seat. "Were talking about ways to make a fake sensor reading of a Cardassian ship. Once the Borg are distracted, we need to get our people back here and into a secured area. I'd like you to prepare the reinforced area. There will be a number of Borg -- former crew -- that will need to be processed through sickbay. Once we get our people back, destroy the Rhombus. Eamon, you'll be in charge of both the security and tactical side of this.""
"I got it! Queen of Intel!" Tallas yelled again and added a bit of a chuckle as she looked around at the unamused faces. "Sorry. I-I-I think I had far too much sugar during this whole ordeal." She cleared her throat and looked over to Commodore York. "Captain, I got it ready. I am not going to bore you with the complicated stuff, but I generally took bits and pieces from the Tactical training program and came up with a sensor program that should fool them long enough for whatever your planning on doing... granted, that is, if you have planned that far advance."
"Excellent. Work with Lieutenant Abbott and get it implemented as soon as possible. I don't think we'll be able to hide from Vance for much longer. Jourdan and Eamon, you know what to do. Good luck."
[Bridge]
Back on the bridge, the computer beeped the approach of another ship.
Malcolm heard the beeps of the console and began to worry a little bit."Ops, whats that beeping and what is it indicating?"
"Incoming ship. It's the Borg, sir."
Malcolm suddenly had a huge ball of fear envelop his stomach."Ready weapons! Battlestations, Commodore to the bridge!" he shouted trying not to cry from fear. The view screen then popped on and whimpered a little as it did so.
Vance appeared on the viewscreen. "Commodore, lower your defenses. You can't begin to imagine the possibilities you are denying yourself of.
"Hi Commander, uh I'm kinda in charge right now until the Commodore arrives so if I could maybe put you on hold for a moment or two, then you could relay your message of doom and gloom to her, that alright?" he responded trying to delay a little
