Mission: The Enemy Within: Lying in Wait

[OLD]
"And after everything over the past few weeks, you couldn't just say something?" she asked. He wanted to keep away from her, but he was eager enough to talk to Vanya. "Well, then. Thank you for the information. I'll let you get back to your work now." She made sure her tone was calm and professional. At least until she got out of the office.

"Ronnie, Wait." Damion ran over to her and stopped her by putting his hand on her shoulder. "Please, will you just let me explain a bit more. You will see you have every right to be upset but not about what you think."
Ronnie turned to face him. "You're not ready to be with me. I understand that. So, I'll leave and give you time." She didn't want to lave him. She would much rather work through whatever demons he faced with him, but if he didn't want her around, she would accept his decision.
"Ronnie, Please. All I am asking for is a chance. Thats it. If what we have, or had, meant something, the least you can do is let me tell you." Damion took her hand in his and kept her from walking further. "Because walking away isn't going to change the fact that inside you know I know you don't want to go. That you wuold rather try and fix things." He sighed a bit and looked at her. "I hate to pull the Betazoid card on you, but sometimes it can't he helped. It's part of who I am, which is part of the problem."
Had? "You don't want me here. So I'm going to give you the time you need to decide if you want me," she said simply.
"I'm scared I'm losing you." Damion replied straight and loudly. It was one of the things that was bothering him, but he couldn't tell her the others. Not just yet anyway. "I was scared that what happened, back there on the planet, turned you away from me for good." He let out a sigh as he let go of her hand. "I didn't want to tell you because part of me was afraid it was right. Not that I doubted you love me, but that seeing me act the way I did and doing the things I did would make you-" He stopped in mid sentence, trying to find the rest of the words but couldn't.
"Did I turn away when you were Johnny?" she asked him quietly.
Damion sighed and shook his head.
"Did I turn away when you remembered who you were?" she continued.
"Alright. No you didn't." He let out another sigh as he looked at her. "But I was afraid. I know it sounds stupid, but I never had a serious relationship since I met you. Considering my last post, I tried to avoid it and now I ruining it by just opening my damn mouth." Damion turned from her and walked away to the couch and sat down. He leaned back and closed his eyes. "I don't know what the hell I am doing anymore, Ronnie. My life has always been mixed with secrets that its becomes natural for me."
Ronnie followed him but sat on the edge of the couch. "You never had a serious relationship since you met me?" she asked. Did he have one BEFORE he met her?
"No." Damion replied as he opened his eyes, looking up at the ceiling. "It was always an Intel thing. Never get too close because you never know what your gonna get into next. Don't let anyone get in the way of the job. Nothing personal, always physical." He looked over to her and let out a sigh. "Closest thing I had to something serious was an Andorian woman, but we always knew it would never get too serious."
"And now what?" She didn't like where this conversation was going. But she had to know, one way or another.
Damion looked over to her and took her hand. "Ronnie. I love you. There is nothing thats steering me away from that fact." He said softly as he looked into her eyes and smiled. "I just need to know that, no matter what happens, you will always remember that."
"I love you, too," she reassured him. "What do you mean no matter what happens? What are you planning?"
Damion gave a slight laugh, trying to hide the fact that he was thinking of a good way to cover himself. She knew him better then that, but he couldn't involve her, or anyone else, in his plans. "Nothing." He smiled as he squeezed her hand gently. "I was just saying that as a figure of speech, because we never know what can happen."
"Uh huh," she said skeptically. He was up to something, but she couldn't make him tell her. She wondered if that was why he was talking to Vanya. Was he going on assignment somewhere? "Okay, then I won't ask."
Now she was starting to feel awkward. He was obviously focused on whatever he had to do and her being here wasn't helping anything. "Maybe I should go and let you get back to what you were doing..."
"No. Please. Its good that you came, Ronnie. So we can finally talk to each other and start up where we left off before this whole thing with the mines." Damion brought his hand up and put it on the side of her face. He smiled slightly, but also felt her sudden felling of awkwardness. "What's wrong?"
"The way you've been acting..." She shrugged. "I'm not sure what to make of it. Or of you now."
Damion took his hand away, his smile faded as he looked into her eyes. Did she not trust him? Was he being too obvious? Fooling her would be important in his plan, but what would the backlash be? He leaned back on the couch, keeping his eyes focused on her. "I'm just not completely over what happened. The medication, to keep me stable, had to be increased since all this. Part of me is worried that, eventually, it might not help at all." Damion let out a sigh, closing his eyes and leaning his head back against the cushion of the headrest. "If that happens, I might have to leave and I wouldn't want to be away from you. Especially, because of everything we have gone through. You're a part of my heart now, Ronnie. I can't lose you."
