Mission:
The Enemy Within: Lying in Wait
Location: CO's Ready Room
Timeline: Before the Columbia crashes
Cameron was standing in a turbo lift, on his way to see the ships Commanding Officer. He felt much better now that he was back in a marine uniform and back on a Starfleet Vessel. Taking a quick breath as the turbo lift slowed, Cam brushed his uniform down before stepping out onto the bridge.
Sam turned and saw the Marine and smiled. "Hello, come into my ready room. I'd like to speak to you."
She turned the bridge over to the duty officer and led the way to her ready room. "Can I get you something to drink?" she asked.
"um, sure, Andorian Ale" Cam said, walking over to stand behind one of the empty chairs. "How are your crew holding out? I know Starfleet doesn't really train you for that kind of situation"
"No, they don't train you, but you';re expected to use your training to get through it," Sam said, replicating an Andorian Ale for Cam and a glass of juice for herself.
She walked back to her desk and set the two glasses down. "Have a seat."
Sam sat down and took a swallow of her drink. "I've talked with Starfleet and the Starfleet Marines. I'd like you to stay on board the Calypso."
Cam look confused, "um, sure I'd be happy to stay, but may I ask why? A ship like this doesn't really have a need for a recon Marine"
"I use Marines on all my away missions," Sam said. "I lost too many good Marines both in the mines and to transfers. And you seem to work well with the others."
Cam smiled, "that's yet to be seen Ma'am. We may have worked well together to get out of the mines, but that was a unique situation. I'm not so sure how well I'll get along with an established unit, but I'm willing to see it out"
"That's all I ask," she said, her smile broadening. "Have you met Captain Mangalia?"
"No I haven't. Since I came aboard I've stayed out of the way, letting the crew get back to their routines" Cam answered "but now that I'm staying onboard, I should get to know the people I'll be working with"
"Agreed. You'll be working with both the Marines and the Fleeties, so it would be a good idea to meet both." She grinned. "As Damon is a former Marine, I tend to use you a lot."
Cam looked curiously at Sam, "I'm sorry, who's Damon?"
Sam blinked. "I'm sorry. I'm used to assuming that everyone knows who he is. Damon Raine. He's my Executive Officer and the former Marine Commander."
"Oh, right, well I better put him at the top of my list" Cameron said, making a mental note, "So other than the XO and the chief medic, is there anyone else I should talk to?"
"Raine, Mangalia, Bowen. And meet some of hte senior Marines. That should do it," Sam said.
Cam nodded. He had no idea who any of those people were, but he could look them up on the crew manifest later. For now he just quickly memorised the names, "if I may ask, where will we be going next? With nearly all of my gear on DS4, I need somewhere for the guys on the station to send my gear to"
"I'm not sure. You could have it sent to the Athena Shipyards. We pass by here often enough we could pick it up here."
Cam nodded, "sound good. I'll send the request in. If there's nothing else Ma'am, I better get to work"
"No, there's nothing else. Familiarize yourself with Deck 14 and meet people," she said. "Welcome aboard, Master Sergeant."
Cam stood to attention, "thank you Ma'am, honoured to be here" he said, giving a salute, than turning around and walking out.
