Mission:
Subjugation
Location: shuttle/Miranda-class
ON
The shuttle drifted slowly to its second stop, hoping this one would be more fruitful than the first. It had now been 35 days since the attack and hopes of getting help were growing dim.
"Bringing her in nice and steady," Marek said as he took the helm this time as the others looked at what they scored from the first ship. "Brace!" He called as the shuttle made contact with the bay's floor and he quickly activated thrusters to help stop them from impacting the wall further inside.
Seconds later the shuttle was on the floor and Marek smiled. It was his first piloting without active power and pretty proud of his performance. "Suit up everyone!" He announced with a grin. "Sorry always wanted to say that."
Jourdan held on as the shuttle set down. The cargo holds of both shuttles were only half full crammed with spare parts. However what Jourdan wanted was spare warp core componets to mean the Vaun Brauns. The intrepid's warp core components had been stripped, however the Miranda class looked a lot better.
"Okay. Like before. Anything you can find scavenge" Jourdan said as she sealed her suit.
"Anything that isn't bolted to the ground, it looks like, on this ship." Maddison said, with a chuckle.
Leo shrugged on his suit before strapping it on tight. "Alright, ready when you are."
Marek was having some problems getting into his environmental suit, he made some grunting sounds then he was ready to go.
Leo looked up before slipping his helmet on. "Hey, anyone know the designation or class of this ship?"
"It's a Miranda," Maria said, struggling to get her suit on. She didn't like these things and the recent practice wasn't making her like them any more.
Lizzie slipped into her suit without a comment. She was still disappointed at the results from the last ship.
The hatch opened and Jourdan was amazed at how intact the ship was. As she turned around she realised why the ship was in such good condition.
"Guys. I don't think anyone has been on this ship in a long time" she said.
Leo looked around frowning. "I don't see anything that helps draw that conclusion," he said looking over at Jourdan. "This place is as steril as the day she was made."
The Romulan rolled his eyes and followed the team inside the corridor from the airlock. Marek felt a shiver go up his spine not that he was scared, just extra cautious.
Jourdan pointed to the far corner. A Starfleet lieutenant was floating near the roof. The vacuum of space had preserved him perfectly, so much that the 2260 Starfleet gold and black uniform was still intact. The panel on the wall flickered slightly as if the ship still had some power.
"I don't think this ship was ever stripped of technology" she said. "If we can bring this vessel online, we may stand a better chance" Jourdan said.
Lizzie muffled a scream and turned away for a moment. She hadn't expected to see anyone left behind. And not like this.
"Marek take an beta away team to Engineering, Alpha team with me upto the bridge. Everyone else see what else this ship has" Jourdan explained.
"Watch out for stray systems with stagnant power. There might be the odd tripwire, or something clever set by the ship's Security contingency." Maddison said. "Keep those tricorders scanning for anything out of place."
"And be careful of bacteria. If the crew's still here, there will be some bacterial contamination," Maria added.
"Aye chief," Marek said to Jourdan and nodded to Miss Aqua lady and at Maria. "Understood ma'ams." He said and had his tricorder out, tapping at the controls for specific programming. He waved to beta team and they headed off down the corridor with their magnetic boots clapping the floor.
Leo nodded to the Sergeant and headed off after Marek. If there was going to be something going on, then this was it. Keeping the phase rifle where it had been last time, he visually scanned everything, noticing the panels flickering and some even staying on for whole minutes before dying again. "At least we know the cores active, maybe we can turn on life support? Even if its to little sections of the ship."
Maria signaled to Lizzie and the two of them headed for science.
"Good idea," Marek nodded at Leo.
After a few hours of working and heavy manipulation of circuitry the ship's power began fluctuating. It appeared to be attempting to build to full output but something was wrong. "Maybe some command override is preventing a full power up?" Marek announced.
== science ==
As Lizzie didn't expect to find anything in hydroponics worth salvaging after such a long time, she accompanied Maria to the science department to see how it looked.
Maria walked in first and stopped. "Maybe you'd better wait here," she said quietly. She found a storage room and dragged the bodies of the four scientists in the room and closed the door. She barely glanced at them, not wanting to look too closely or think of who they were before they died. At least the zero gravity made it easier to move the bodies.
She stuck her head out of the door. " Okay, Lizzie, come in."
The two began a systematic search of the lb. It looked like it had been used only a few days ago, even though the equipment was clearly out of date.
The power flickered on and off from time to time. Lizzie looked at Maria. "I hope that's a good sign.'
"Me, too." With the occasional bouts of power, they were able to ascertain that science was in good working order. Or would be, if it had consistent power. Nothing critical had been in the works, so there was nothing to fail epically when the power came back on -- which was a very good thing.
When they were done looking around and inventorying everything, they headed to Engineering to see if they could lend a hand there.
