"I haven't seen him, or anyone from the ship," Kara said quietly. "I've spent the past month avoiding trouble. Or trying to." She wondered how long it would take for someone to find the body. "We need to find him and get to a safer Sector."
[NEW]
Ruka simply observed the others while she worked.
Cameron walked along the perimeter of the Sector, stretching out his cramped mussels. He'd just been released form isolation for the fourth time since he'd been here in this hole. He was starting to think that this place was going to be his tomb. As he walked, he caught one of the other prisoners mention a rank, Commander. looking around, her quickly spotted Kara and Trent standing near the edge of the sector.
Slowly moving up to them, he realise he didn't recognise them. "Finally some fresh meat" he said, as he came to a stop not far from them, "where'd you two get nicked from? some colony somewhere?"
Kara spun around, her hand going instinctively to her knife. "Who's asking?" She looked him up an down carefully, trying to decide if he was a friend or foe.
Cameron backed off slightly, raising his hand slightly, "easy there mate, no need for that" he said, looking between Kara and Trent "you can call me Cam"
"You can call me 'cautious'." Trent said facetiously as he set the rifle he was holding into his shoulder. "What sector gang are you with?"
Cameron looked at Trent quizzically, "you expect me to join those pricks. No, I'm on my own"
Kara watched Cam closely, her knife still in her hand. She'd developed a healthy mistrust of men in the mines. They all wanted something. Either her expertise as a fighter or her body. She didn't give either easily. In the purgatory of the mines, both were commodities she used one strategically and the other she refused to share.
But as a Marine she would fight and die for the freedom of her crew mates. What she needed to know was who Cam was and where his loyalties lie. "Who were you before you came here and who do you work for?"
Cameron quickly glanced around before answering, "I was a recon marine assigned to Deep Space 4. I was on a scouting mission along the Breen boarder when I got caught by Orion slave traders. I've been here for almost a year"
Ruka decided to follow her training and be a invisible, stay out of sight and learn more about the security of the mine. She slowly extracted herself from the group and began exploring.
"A year?" Kara shook her head, surprised he was still alive. There was a ring of truth to his worads that led her to respond. "USS Calypso. Been here a month."
Cameron raised an eyebrow, "a month? How many other Fleeties are here?" he asked, looking between Trent and Kara.
"I don't know. In our group? A dozen. Why?" she asked suspicious again.
"I just, never thought I'd get out of here, or see another Starfleet officer again, but a dozen.....how did you wind up here? Is the Calypso still in one piece?" Cameron asked, feeling his hopes getting higher and higher
"The Calypso's at Starbase Typhon. We came on the Von Braun. Last I knew we were under attack. I don't know what happened to the ship," Kara admitted. She nodded to Trent. "He's the first of the crew I've seen."
"so, there's no chance of a beam out" Cameron said, running a few scenarios through his mind, "do either of you know where the other Starfleet personnel are?"
"If there was a chance for beam out do you think we'd still be here after a month?" Kara asked. She turned to Trent. "You'll have to ask him about the others."
Looking between Trent and Kara, Cameron studied their stances, the posture and thought he recognised something, "you two, your not Starfleet are you?"
Kara stood taller. "Starfleet Marines."
Cameron smiled, "well, it's good to know I'm not the only grunt around here"
"Anyone else from your group alive?" she asked quietly.
Cameron shook his head, "none that I know of. The last time I saw them was on the planet we were stationed on"
Kara glanced at Trent before looking back at Cameron. "Would you like to join us? I'm sure York won't mind."
Cameron raised an eyebrow, "York? Is that your unit CO?"
"No, she's Captain of the Calypso. I haven't seen Mangalia since the Von Braun," Kara said, getting more antsy. They'd been standing in the open for far too long and she needed to get moving again. "Do you mind if we leave here. I have a ... vested interest in getting out of this sector as soon as possible."
After a moment of thought, Cameron nodded, "alright, lead the way. Um, I never asked your name"
"Kara. Kara Melo." She nodded to Trent. "That's Trent Kushner." She looked around again. "COme on. Let's get out of here."
Cameron nodded, "let's go"
