Mission:
The Race for the Lost Treasure
Location: Damion's Office
Damion leaned back in the chair and awaiting for the call with Vanya to be connecected. He always enjoyed working with her, she was always a lot of fun. Vanya always had the best covers and the best intel out of everyone of his own contacts, but of course thats what she was there for. He heard recently they moved her office to something more mobile, but he wasn't expecting an entire ship.
There were several clicks before the connection was established. Vanya's face appeared on the screen, surrounded by computers. "Well, if it isn't my favorite Black Wolfe. How are you doing, my darling?"
"I'm doing surprisingly well, Red. Interestingly enough, I don't miss being shot at every couple hours. How about you? Heard you got a room with a view this time." Damion smiled and then laughed slightly. He had a slightly colorful history with this woman. She always gave him the best information and background, but she was more like a little sister to him then just another woman. They never discussed hooking up, because Damion always felt like he wasn't her type, or she wanted someone specific.
"I wouldn't call it a view, exactly," she chuckled. "But it's interesting. I have control of an entire ship. The Captain must be crazy," she joked. "So, handsome, what can I do for you? You're not the type ot call me just to say hi." Although she had a soft spot for Damion and was happy to see that he looked well.
"Need a favor, Vanya. The Calypso.. The ship I am on, is undergoing repairs. Our First Officer left on a mission and never came back. Captain is rearing to go find him, but we need Intel. Got any I can use?" Damion replied, in an almost straight forward manor. He saw no point in beating around the bush with her. He never did.
Vanya began to enter data into her computer. "Commander Damon Raine disappeared seven days ago, along with the rest of the crew of the USS Faraday. You're joining the USS Von Braun, a Nova-class ship. Leaving in three days to go search." She continued to talk as she found information. "Looks like the USS Faraday is the fifth ship to go missing in the last year. They aren't in one particular area, but there's a definite pattern. Sending data to you now." She sat back and grinned at Damion. "There you go, my luscious lupine."
Ronnie walked into Damion's office in time to hear the comment. She stood in the doorway, unobserved, and watched Damion talk to a beautiful woman on the viewscreen.
Damion laughed a little and then smiled as he leaned back in the chair. "You haven't called me that in a long time, Red." He smiled and ran his hand through his hair. "You know... I'd break a lot of agents hearts if you and I ever- " He turned quickly and saw Ronnie there. He felt that there was someone in the room, but he thought it was just his airhead receptionist, Lora. "Ronnie? I didn't hear you come in. Did Lora let you in? I told her not to let anyone in because I was having a private conversation."
"I noticed," she replied quietly. "No one's in the office, so I thought it was okay." She hesitated for a moment. "Sorry. I'll leave..." Well, they always say you only hear the worst when you eavesdrop. Even if it's by accident. She turned and headed back through the receptionist's office.
"No, Ronnie. Come back, please." Damion called out to her. "It's okay to come back, let me explain."
"No. You can finish your private conversation." She new he had a past, but she thougth it was past. The little bit she heard made her realize that she'd been assuming a lot of things she shouldn't have.
"Dammit." Damion looked back to the screen and then got up. "Sit tight, Vanya. I got to go fix something." He ran out of the office and saw her heading for the other door. "Ronnie, please let me clarify a few things so you don't get the wrong impression."
"It's fine, really. You go back and talk with your friend. I'll be fine." Her words sounded hollow, but she would be fine. She just needed to readjust her thinking. She'd apparently taken too much for granted. Her brothers would have a good laugh at her if they knew.
"Computer. Lock Office Door." Damion yelled as he stopped and stood there. "Ronnie, please. I know you don't mean that. It's me your talking to, remember? Please... Let me let you in." He said softly as he took a step closer to her. "Someone needs to know. I would rather it be you then someone I don't trust." He held his hand out to her slowly.
Ronnie turned and folded her arms across her chest. With the door locked she wasn't going anywhere until Damion let her go so she might as well listen to him tell her about his girlfriend. "Tell me what?"
"The girl who I was talking to is Vanya. She is a member of Starfleet Intelligence who specializes in computer hacking, encryption, research, and information. Vanya is the best of the best. She is responsible for making the covers and alias in Starfleet." Damion took another step forward to her, slowly trying to get closer to her and avoid any attacks. "Vanya is a very close friend... she is practically like a little sister. An older little sister, but it's only because she is small. She is like 5'3"... adorable little thing." He laughed a little and then stopped. "Ronnie, just come talk to her, please. You'll see the worry I am sensing from you now is completely unnecessary."
"I don't know many little sisters that use the term luscious Lupine," she said, her tone skeptical.
"It's how Vanya is. Really." Damion took her hand in his and looked at her with a smile. "Ronnie, you will have to talk to her to understand. That's just how she is sometimes."
Might as well get it over with," she thought. She let him lead her back into his office.
"Muffin, somehow, I never thought you'd go for an All-American type," Vanya said when she saw Ronnie. "Baseball? I didn't think anyone played that any more," she said, addressing Ronnie.
"Already digging into her file, Vanya?" Damion said softly as he sat back down and then looked over to Ronnie.
"Of course. There's only one Ronnie on the Calypso. There are two Rons and a Ronald, but only one Ronnie. And before you say anything, my love, I know they play baseball on Earth. I was born there, remember? Although it wasn't played much in my part of the world." She looked at Damion again, her expression mock-sad. "If only you were closer." She glanced at Ronnie and smiled. "Ah well, you can't win them all."
Ronnie watched the interplay and said nothing.
