Mission:
Shades of Gray
Location: Michnar VII / CO's Ready Room

Kara gathered her squad and headed for Kyt's last-known location. Her expression was grim and her thoughts dark. She took a dim view of Fleeties who took the law into their own hands.
She tapped her combadge. "Melo to Commander Raine. We're at the beamdown point. What would you like us to do?"
"Search the area." Damon responded. "Ask people if they have seen anyone matching Kyt's description. Also, send a team to secure the magister."
Daniels, and his team, came from the direction of the magister's building. "Uh... That's going to be difficult. Building's under security lock-down. Can't seem to get in. Transporter screens up, and everything." He said, with a frown. "We've got it surrounded, and are working on forcing entry, but they've got some kind of emergency energy screen up, deflecting personnel, and energy weapons."
Maddison Tyler stepped forward, the sunlight hitting her aquatic field generator, causing a unique prism effect to hit the ground, surrounding her. "We even tried detonating proton grenades on it."
Daniels threw his thumb over his shoulder. "I don't know how to get in there. Do you have any-"
The ground shook. Daniels couldn't see what caused it. "-ideas on how to get in there?"
"Uh... Daniels, sir?" Maddison said, looking behind him.
"Quiet, Maddison. Let the Commander-"
"Daniels... You really need to turn around." Maddison said.
"Don't interrupt!" Daniels said, turning to Maddison. "That's very rude..."
He stared at the smoking top three stories of the government building. Where the Magister, and his business offices were.
"Not half as rude as that is." Maddison whispered.
Helena came up to the group. "Local police forces are heading in the direction of the explosion. No traffic in or out of the area."
Daniels nodded. He looked to Maddison. "Uh... coordinate with them." Daniels said softly. "I'll... be back on the ship." Daniels muttered. "Daniels to Calypso... I think I'd best report this in person. One to beam up." He sounded very somber, and his voice quivered.
[CO's Ready Room]
Sam sat in her ready room, going over the latest Starfleet orders. Mostly to keep from thinking about what was going on planetside. Kyt had a head start, but Sam desperately hoped she'd be found before she did something stupid.
Daniels approached the door, holding two things that Kyt had left in her quarters. A bajoran earring. Two Golden dots. He pressed the door chime, and waited, patiently. He was silent, even to those who greeted him. Those in security knew already, or would find out shortly. He had absolutely nothing on his face, that was readable. His face was pale. The bags under his eyes were heavy-appearing. He looked like someone who was nearly dead. Something, clearly, had broken within him.
"Come in," Sam said. When she saw Daniels, she stood. The news was not going to be good. "What happened?"
Daniels collapsed on the chair, across from the Captain, and deposited the three items on the Captains desk. He just stared at them for several moments. Then he looked up. "Permission to sit down, Captain?"
"I think that's a given, Ensign." She picked up the earring and looked at it, then set it next to the two rank pips. "So, she resigned first. Have you located her on the planet?"
"Oh, I'm fairly certain we'll be getting that report shortly." Daniels said, looking down at the pips, and the earring. "The Magistrate's office, and the top three floors of a four floor building were destroyed in an explosion. The rubble from the top three crushed the fourth floor. No life signs in the rubble, according to the ship's scans."
Sam sat down in her chair. Why such a drastic measure? "Are you sure she was in the building when it blew up?"
Daniels shrugged. "Forensic teams will comb the rubble in about half an hour. It's going to be next to impossible to find any confirmation-worthy evidence. From the looks of that blast, if she was in the center of it, she'd have been atomized nearly instantly. I'm not sure. I am sure, though, of one thing. Kyt planned it this way."
"It would appear so." Sam put her hand over the earring. "Starfleet will want a complete investigation. I assume there's nothing left of the current government?"
"Cabinet was in session, according to a secretary, who left the building for lunch. She said everyone was present, and would be working for several hours, regarding the disease." Daniels said, staring, still at the earring. "The woman, Lumina, has also vanished. Witnesses say she didn't follow Kyt, but simply ran off, after beam-down."
"Thank you. Work with Damon and Leo. I want a full report as soon as you've finished your investigation." She ran a hand through her hair. Why take matters into her own hands? "Did she leave a log or a note?"
Daniels shook his head. "She wouldn't have too. She knows Stran knows why she did it. She knows I'm practicing criminal profiling on my coworkers, and know why she did it. She knows Tyler knows her well enough to know why she did it. I'm fairly certain, Commander Raine knows why she did it. I know you don't, but that's because she considered you too much of an adversary to let you spend much time getting close to her. She did it, because she perceived these people to be like the Bajorans, in the Dominion war. Beyond Federation help. I'll even tell you why she made it look like she died in the explosion, even if she didn't. After being wrongly imprisoned for five years, I would not want to return, either." He shook his head. "What she did wasn't necessarily right, ma'am."
