Leo was still sitting on his bed and opened a secure link to the new Chief Of Intelligence officer. "Lieutenant Wolfe, please respond if you're not busy."
Damion was in his office as he heard the transmission. He began to hit at his console. "This is Lieutenant Wolfe Off the USS Calypso. Please identify yourself and why you are using a secure channel.
"Marine Captain Leroy Mangalia Lieutenant," Leo said shaking his head. "I need information, and you're the best person to go to according to the Captain."
"Would you rather I come to you in person, Captain Mangalia?" He said softly as he leaned back in his chair. He read the report about what happened. Damion couldn't let a request from someone go unnoticed.
"I didn't know if you were on the ship or not Damion, if you want to come down to the Marine wing, my boys'll leave you alone." Leo looked at the glass of water he had been drinking, and disposed of it. Going up and tapping in for another glass, he took a sip. "It's not like I'm doing anything important any how Lieutenant, I've been ordered onto bed rest."
"Couple marines wont bother me much, Marine. You'll fine I can handle myself as best as any soldier. Of course I know your boys are the best of the best and I wont take that from them. I value their work for this ship and its crew. You got my full attention, Captain. Personally I would rather do something face to face. It would also give me a moment to question you on what landed you in your current situation." He said softly as he looked at his console. "But I leave the choice to you, Captain Mangalia." Damion crossed his arms over his chest.
"Come on down Lieutenant, I have a baby sitter that wont let me leave my quarters," Leo said looking at the Vulcan that plagued his every waking hour. "Room Twenty Seven Alpha."
"See you in a few, Captain Mangalia. Wolfe out." He said as he hit the console button. Damion got up and walked out of his office and headed toward the room. In his mind he could only speculate what would be asked of him.
===========Mangalia's Quarters=============
Damion walked up to the room and hit the chime. He stopped as he had his hands behind his back and could feel the tension from a couple of the marines around the room. Damion felt like they thought he was here to start trouble for the Captain. He did nothing but look over and give them the same hard look. Showing he wasn't intimidated or afraid. All his years working as a field agent for the Black Ops division in Starfleet made him grow a custom to this kind of treatment. He hit the chime again and waited as he looked back to the door.
As the second chime sounded, Leo was walking out of the refresher and hit a button that opened the door. "Come in El-Tee. Ignore the grunts, they watched their CO get rushed into Emergency Surgery, and don't want it to happen." Grabbing his eighth glass of water all day, he stepped into the dim light, now showing his burns on his face and neck. "Excuse the wounds, there's only so much a dermal generator can do for chemical burns."
"Seen worse, Captain. Done worse." He said with a slight laugh as he walked in and gave a salute to the Captain. He wasn't sure if he should but it was always the proper action when entering a Marines quarters. Damion looked around as he put his hands behind his back and smiled. "Vulcan nanny give you a break or did you sent her out, Marine Style?"
"At ease Lieutenant, and we don't salute in Marine country. I keep this area like a combat zone. If anyones watching, they don't know who the officers are if they can't tell the difference in rank." Looking at the Nanny, he turned the lights up a little. "And she only allows visitors."
"Fair enough, Sir. You give me a call I can see what I can do about her." He said as he looked over to the Vulcan and then back to Mangalia."Why don't you and I get to the business at hand, shall we?" He felt the order and disciple coming from the Captains mind as he could just pick up light surface thoughts.
"Very good Damion," Leo said with a smile, waving his hand to the empty chairs scattered around the room. "I need to know how many factions, how desperate, whats the current state of their military, is there likely to be a large scale battle between my men and the current government..." Leo took a deep breath and smiled. "Sorry, I have a few questions, and you seem to be the most capable of answering them."
"In detail, Captain. I don't know. My investigation just began and I just got on board this ship not to long ago." He walked over to teh chair and sat down." I can promise you, however I will inform you the moment I do know. You and I can establish a means of getting out people out and healthy. I know I can't lead your boys in because they won't follow someone they don't trust. I am pretty sure they would prefer you leading them in . I was just about to head to interview Lumina Maralena with my assistant." He said softly, knowing the information wasn't exactly what the Leo was expecting but it was all he could give him at the time.
Leo nodded. "I've already talked to the Captain about leading my Marines if something comes to head. I won't have them be lead by anyone else. It's not that they don't trust you El-Tee, we just don't know you." Taking in the rest of the information he shook his head. "I'm going to do something I didn't do for the last Intel guy we had on board." Stepping over to his desk, he tapped a button. -^-Lance Corporals Jensen and Funts, report to my quarters at once.-^-
"Captain, I know you don't trust me. Hell I wouldn't trust me either in the beginning. I am not asking you to trust me right off the bat, you or your marines. I need someone I can trust and there is no one I trust better then someone I know will get the job done. I hear your boys know how to do that." He looked around. "I can also sense you haven't been feeling like your doing much good, your a man of action and I can respect that. I know you can't leave these quarters, but it doesn't mean you have to sit around her and do nothing."
As the man finished, both Marines stepped inside the room, dressed in black uniforms with only ancient Gauss weapons at their side. Leo smiled. "I'm not doing any good right Now El-Tee, and here are the two I asked for. Besides Corporal Shintaku, they are the best Scout Snipers I have. Both come from a long line of Marine Spec Op's, and are the only two I know of that can slip in and out of a full out war zone without firing a shot."
Damion nodded to the Marines, this time not saluting. "I mean setting you up from here, Captain. I need someone who has been there. Someone who knows the layout and someone who knows the enemy. I can set you up with an access to internal information and a relay to my com while down there. So you can be there with use down there. I could use someone like you helping." Damion said as he looked at Leo. He knew there might be some backlash to this but he would rather have someone he can rely on that has been there already. "Would you be willing to work with me, Captain Mangalia?"
"I can, but if I get called away because the craps hitting the fan, then you'll be seeing me with my work face on. But I wouldn't mind it at all." Looking to his two men he nodded. "Gentlemen, Lieutenant Wolfe needs some spooks. Shintaku is planet side, and on duty. I know that you feel left out. You're going with him. The usual toys."
"I won't let you take any fall for a decision I make, Captain. I'll take the full force of any problems that come our way. I won't let a good man fall for my decisions. I own up to any mistake I make and I let now one crash and burn for it. I'll set you up with anything you need to get a good eye view down there. Anything you need I will get."
"We have two probes already orbitting, or we should if normal procedure applies. These two, as soon as you dismiss them are going to send out Recon Drones that'll patch into not only my computer here, but any device that you have planetside." Spinning his panel around he showed the man the planet, per the two probes view of it. "This'll also help keep us in almost constant contact with one another. We can provide ear buds if you want what I think during your meeting. If its being preformed here, I'd like to be in on it. I abhor second hand information."
"If you can provide the ear buds and information then we can get to work." He said softly with a smiled on his face. He felt like he was back with his old team. Of course Damion wasn't about to admit outloud he was enjoying this. His past history was on a need to know and then last thing he wanted was for people on this new assignment to start not trusting him from the get go. "She is confined to her quarters so I will habve to do the meeting there, but if you would like I can bring in one of the ear buds and you can relay whatever info you can provide." He looked at him as he leaned back in the chair. "However, I would like to try it my way, first before I turn it on, if thats ok?"
"That's fine," Leo said looking over to his two men, both of which produced the ear equipment. Taking one, the other was tossed to Damion. "If you think that's the way to go."
Damion caught the ear bud and then put it in. "Well I have my own tricks, being half Betazoid I can usually fish things out of people. I want to see how it works on her. I do promise to keep you and your boys on at all times, Captain." He said with a smiled and then ran his hands though his hair. "Anything you can tell me about what happened here and on the surface?"
"The last thing I know from the surface is when I got hit by that mine. They've found some secret rooms and buildings, but thats about it. There wasn't anything my men could report."
"What was the last thing you remember or saw before the mine?" He said softly.
"I never saw the mine, I was on fire and thrown against a wall before I even knew it was there..." Leo said shaking his head. "But we were trying to find out where one of the secret rooms let out of. We stepped out onto an unknown street, and boom."
"They figure out what kind of mine it was? Pressure? Timed? Remote?" Damion asked as he leaned forward slightly toward the Captain.
"Trip wire connection," Leo said holding up a piece of the cord that had tripped the mine. "It was still attached to the uniform when I woke up. After that, I don't have a clue. You'd have to ask Lieutenant Ghassan, she's the one in command on the surface right now." Tossing the piece of fiber optics cable to the man he almost laughed. "I go through a war, six or seven different people dying on my watch, a snafu on another planet, and I get taken down by a mine that could have been placed there long before the little invasion we did."
He caught the wire as he looked at it. "Sometimes, its the things not on our minds that get us. We can prepare for so many things, but its the little things that get us in the end. I was on an infiltration mission on ..." Damion paused for a moment. "You don't need to know the details, but my team and I had taken out the guards and proceeded to our prime goal when we spotted a child. We didn't think nothing of it as we proceeded and because the kid ran off. What we didn't know was this kid ran right to a console and sounded the alarm. Part of me said he was gonna be a liability and the other said he was just scared. Needless to say I listened to to the wrong part."
"In a situation, there's never a wrong part of view. You chose based on what your heart said, and theres no dishonor in that Lieutenant." Leo smiled and leaned back. "I sent a Lance Corporal that was trigger happy, into an unknown situation. I don't know where she's at, she never came to see me. Hell, everyone piled into Sickbay when I got beamed up." Laughing now, he took another sip of water, feeling the water go over his cracked lips. "I didn't even think of any mines being laid out. The area was dead, so I let my guard down. I almost ended up dead... But look at it this way. You let the child go, and what he did he did out of fear. That action of sounding the alarm, could have changed him in ways that you would never think of." Leo took another sip and stared the man down.
"I watched my father, and most of our colony get demolished by the Dominion. Then later by the Borg. Every night, every waking hour I stood watch over my demolished home, the colony. I protected the people, I was five. What happened to me, made me the man I am today. Those Dominion assualts left me alone because I was a child. I later found out what regiment attacked my home, killed my father. They're still in space somewhere, blown out of a hole I punched in their bulk head."
"Is that why you joined the marines? To strike back?" Damion said softly as he leaned back in the chair.
Leo couldn't help but start laughing at the man. "Strike back? Finding that unit was mere coincidence. I joined the Corps so I could make sure it never happened to another colony, another family. No child needs to see his father get murdered." He had stopped laughing and looked at the man. "I need to stretch my legs, when you call me into the conversation, I may end up walking down there, no matter what the doctors say."
"I'm bringing this ear bud with me so you don't have to, Captain. You showing up with cause more problems for you with Captain York. I would rather avoid that if I can and take all the blow back from this as I can to keep you out of harms way." Damion said as he stood up and placed the ear bud in his ear.
"It's a shock factor. If she see's what happened, she may be a little more willing to help us." Leo stood as well. "I'm a casualty, and I think she needs to see one that survived."
"In the event we need such a tactic I will have no problem with it. For now lets try to get through it without handling it like she is a criminal. In the event she wants to us it against us some how. I do agree with you on that point. She needs to see what is happening down there."
Leo nodded and took another sip of water. "We'll play it by ear. And when it goes South, I'll come walking in. Make sure you lock the door, Security doesn't need to know whats going on."
"I'll be sure to do that" Damion said as he headed toward the door. "Honor to meet you one the team, Captain. Have your men on stand by for when I head down to the planet. I'll make sure to contact them when I am ready."
Leo looked at the man and nodded. "As soon as I called them, they were activated. They'll be more than ready to go when you drop to the planet. Depending on what you need them to do, one'll go scouting and the other will stay around you as a protection detail." Looking at him, Leo bowed. "May the seven symbols of Betazed protect you."
"Careful Captain. This is a combat zone. Gestures like that might get us both killed." He laughed as he refered to Leo's comment earlier when Damion saluted. He walked out of the doors with a smirk and headed to Luminas quarters, tapping his badge ready to call for Ruka to meet him.
Leo laughed and watched the man leave, shaking his head. He had set himself up for that, but if he had to do it again, he would. It was only proper.
