Elizabeth Jackson walked through the arboretum, grinning. It looked great. Better than great, considering how little time they’d had to put it together.
As she went she checked on the trees to make sure they were taking root, the koi pond to make sure there were no dead fish, the irrigation system to be sure it was functioning properly.

This was no Garden of Eden, though. She still found a few weeds here and there she needed to pull, a dead branch to remove. But overall it looked great.

A monkey chattered in the tree above her. “Cornelius!†she called. A small Capuchin monkey dropped onto her shoulder. She gave him a banana from her bag. “Hello, Cornelius. How are you doing?†The monkey made some noises in reply, then peeled the banana. He dropped the peel on the ground. Lizzie picked it up. She put it in a corner in the back where she was starting a compost pile.

Two large Macaws called to each other. Jekyll and Hyde. They, along with Cornelius, were her pets. The Chief let her bring them aboard and keep down here where they felt more at home.

Lizzie, too, felt at home here. A place for her to care for, a place to bring her pets. She was looking forward to her time on the Orion.
