Mission:
Shades of Gray
Location: USS Calypso/ Michnar VII
Timeline: After "Checking on Leo"
ON:
Leo was sitting at his desk in his quarters, trying to relax. He couldn't, knowing that his people could be in a dangerous situation. "Computer, please set up a link to the Marine ground forces on Michnar VII, Lieutenant Ghassan, Corporal Shintaku, Sergeant Melo and PFC Kushner." As the link started to form he smiled as the screen split into four, so he could see each person.
"Morning folks, please tell me no one else got hit like I did."
"No, sir. You took the brunt of it," Kara said. "The rest of the injured were treated by the doctor and are back on duty."
Leo nodded. "Any other mines found? Trip wires, anything like that?"
Kara looked to Noelle for that one. She'd been in another area and wasn't aware of any other mines.
Noelle shook her head "We didn't find any other trip lines or mines." She said "As Kara said, you took the brunt of the blast." Noelle was quiet for a moment "That doesn't mean that there aren't others around, we just didn't find any during our detailed sweeps."
"Alright Lieutenant," Leo said nodding. "Were there any clues as to who set the thing? Or which faction I should ask."
"No sir. We're not sure which faction set the bomb." She said "We're still investigating. Things have gotten a bit hot down here. The civilian population is getting a bit restless." She said "Non-lethal force has been authorized to maintain control."
Leo nodded, understanding. "If they start grabbing weapons, and it gets too messy, I'm going to allow lethal force as needed." Tapping his chin, he stopped and took a sip of water. "How many factions are running around down there?"
Noelle looked at Kara "I personally am not sure. I'll try to gather some further intel and let you know. I believe that there are two, but don't hold me to that."
"Don't worry about it Lieutenant. Once the intel becomes available, I'll get an update. I'm not completely off the grid." Shaking his head, he glanced to the nurse again. "Have there been any protests, any attacks, verbal, spent casings, breaches, that sort of thing?"
"We had a fragment grenade thrown a bit ago. I'm going to take the twins and head down the way the person that threw it went. Maybe we can find something down there." She said "There's been some disgruntled people that are not happy at the quarantine." She said "Other than that...."
"Who ordered the quarantine?" Leo said perking up. "And why would they order it?"
"Doctor Bowen. To try and keep the virus from spreading, but it may already be too late," Kara said.
"Sounds good," Leo said nodding. "Just be careful Lieutenant, I don't need anyone else getting hurt. Corporal Shintaku and PFC Kushner, anything to report? Kara? Anything else I need to be made aware of?"
Trent, who had stayed quiet until now, offered little. "Nothing beyond what a dozen other marines haven't already reported on. There was a riot and things got a bit out of hand." He shrugged. It was an over-simplification, but since no one was seriously hurt the details were inconsequential.
"The buildings around here are riddled with secret rooms and secret openings," Kara told him. "We've secured the entrance and room in this building. There's a Marine in a hidden attic in the next building overlooking the area. Nothing untoward, but we're keeping an eye on them."
"Pull the Marines from the rooms, bomb them, and make sure they can't be used again. Sonic grenades should be more than enough." Leo coughed a little and shook his head. "Sorry, anything else I need to be told about people? I have a meeting with Lieutenant Wolfe here in a few."
"If we bomb the rooms we take down the buildings, Captain. That includes the ones we're using as a base camp. Right now we're sealing entrances to some and putting Marines in others as lookouts," Kara interjected.
"Not my finest moment, I think those meds are kicking in Sergeant. If anything comes up, let me know as soon as you can." Looking at one fourth of the screen at his XO. "Noelle, you're in command until the Medics tell me I'm free to go back to duty. Shouldn't be any longer than a month or so."
"Yes, sir," Kara said.
Noelle nodded "Understood Captain. I'll be taking a small detachment out to look around the city and see if we can shake anything loose there." She said. Looking at the others "Get some rest and feel better Captain."
"I doubt I'll rest much, I'm too busy worrying about you guys." Leo smiled, taking another sip of water, it had gone warm. "When I get cleared, I'll be right back down there with you guys."
"Aye, sir," Kara said as the screen went blank again. She smiled at Lieutenant Ghassan. "Good to see him up and about again. Now I'm back to recon."
Noelle nodded "Keep a close eye on the perimeter." She said "The twins and I are going to be heading out to do some undercover recon in a few minutes. I want you to make it look like we're falling back and that this compound is going to be unprotected....We need to get the person or persons alive." Noelle said.
Kara nodded. "Aye, ma'am. Good luck." With a salute, she turned and headed back outside.
