Mission:
The Forests of Mythraeli
Location: Davy Jones' Locker, Deck 10 (Forward)
Tav was still getting used to the vastness of the ship. Despite serving on an Excalibur-class vessel, which was slightly larger, the Galaxy for some reason seemed much more grand. He had heard numerous times about the lounge located on the lower section of the saucer looking out into the space ahead. On Enterprise it was simply named 'Ten Forward', here on Calypso the same location was, in true nautical manner, named Davy Jones' Locker.
After a long turbolift ride and a short stroll he arrived at the double doors to the lounge which parted as he approached. It was fairly quiet, being the middle of beta shift, an attractive blonde-haired woman stood behind the bar, while an equally attractive dark-haired woman sat drinking something orange out of a tall glass.
"Hey," Tav greeted them, his accent noticeable, as he took a seat on a stool one away from the dark-haired woman.
"Hey your self," stated Callen as she watched the young man that looked slightly uneat sit next to her.
"What can I get for you sir," stated Helen across the bar starting at him with a sweet smile on her face.
"I'll take a light mexican beer with a slice of lime, please," Tav replied. He turned his attention away from the bartender for a second, to the woman next to him. "Tav Ross, of Engineering."
Helen nodded her head and went to get the man his drink. Callen nodded to Tav and stated, "Callen Thompson, Quarter master and shuttle bay manager." She held out her hand and shook the man's hand, "Nice to meet you. So what brings you to the Calypso?"
"I believe you're in need of a Chief Engineer and I was told to get a new job," Tav replied with a smile. "Well, not particularly told, but it was suggested strongly."
"I wonder why they wanted you off," stated Callen.
"Perhaps an advancement," replied Helen handing Tav his drink.
"You know perhaps your right," smiled Callen, "You must be really good if your last Captain wishes better things for you?"
"Well it was more my Chief Engineer, Commander Yates," Tav clarified. "I was his assistant chief and he gave me that job. He put me forward for a Chief's position and then offered a pile of his papers and engineering notes and wished me luck."
Tav chuckled to himself at the memory. He was still waiting for Ensign Longmuir to arrive, as Yates had also allowed him to take one of the new engineering officers with him on the new assignment. He took the drink from Helen and took a small gulp, the drink was refreshing, slightly sparkling and had just a little bitter edge from the lime. Lovely.
Both of the woman giggled with Tav. "Man o how I love promotions," stated Callen sarcasticly, "The higher the rank. The more paper work you get." Then she chuckled again before she continued, "So new arrival Helen." She looked at the bartender and then finshed in a evil voice, "Fresh meat!"
Helen giggled a little as she plated Callen's meal and then handing it to her. "Looks good," then Callen took a bite of her food. Afer chewing and swallowing her meal she turned to Tav and said, "So what are your plans? Here on this big ship. Any goals in mind?"
Tav shuffled on the stool, turning to his left slightly so his arm rested on the bar. "First I need to fix everything that the last guy seems to have forgotten about," he said, annoyance obvious in his tone. "Maybe ask me after that."
He took another sip, before continuing, "seriously though, I don't know, I always wanted to be an engineer and where better than a ship like Calypso?"
Callen stabbed a piece of meat at the end of the fork. She pointed to him slightly and stated, "What ever makes you sleep well at night." Then she placed the piece of meat into her mouth.
"Yeah," stated Helen, "A ship is only good as its Engineer who fixes her." Then she smiled slightly.
Tav laughed, "I hope I'm not too bad then, otherwise we're in for a rough ride."
"Naa life isn't fun then," joked Callen and then smiled at him, "Well Helen then lets pray things go well then. For the sake of our lives here. I mean think about it. Our lives are litterly in this mans hands."
"I'm sure he'll do just fine," replied Helen.
"Even more reason to stay on his good side," Callen stated then winked at him.
"I don't make friends by threatening to accidentally miss structural integrity field services," Tav retorted, but smiled afterwards, confirming it was a joke. "I'd rather have friendly drinks at the bar."
"Aw well I'm glad I'm on the right track then," she smiled at him before placing another forkfull of food in her mouth. After she swallowed it she asked, "So Tav tell me of yourself other then Engineering."
"Other than engineering? You mean there's something else?" he joked, sipped his drink and then smiled. "I was born in Scotland on Earth, I'm twenty-nine years old, I play, or at least I played rugby, and I like old technology."
The autobiography was pretty brief, but detailed enough for Callen or Helen to ask questions if they wanted.
"Aw Scottish and Rugby," coed Callen to Helen. Helen shook her head and gave a small smile and then went back to work. Then Callen picked up an green olive and placed it half way in her mouth as she looked at him up and down. After she engulf the olive she joked, "A man that likes to get down and dirty in all ways."
Tav laughed, had he been a few years younger he would have turned bright red, but flirting was becoming a skill, slowly.
"Engineer, rugby, and Scottish," he replied, with a smile. "Can't get dirtier."
Callen looked at him in the corner of her eye and smiled, "I wonder what else you can get dirty with." Then her smiled grew. Then she took a sip of her drink.
"I'll leave that to your imagination," Tav replied with a smile. "Anyway, how did you end up in Starfleet, what's your story?"
Helen watched as the two flirted extensively, it brought back memories of her and her beloved William. She kept to herself listening occationally to the conversation at hand.
"Me," stated Callen, "Well lets see. I guess I continued with tradition for my family. Thompson have been in Starfleet for five generations."
"Is this your first posting?" he asked, before waving to Helen to get her attention. "Could I have another one of those please?"
Helen nodded her head and went to the replicator and got the man another beer. After it replicated she handed it over to him and took away the empty one.
"No," confessed Callen, "This is my third ship I've worked on. I work as a repair specialist on the USS Zen then I work as the quartermaster on the USS Halestorm. Then I was bumped as well my position that I have know as Staff Warrant. So I've been at this for a while." Then she giggled.
Tav raised an eyebrow, she was quite experienced, the eyebrow however was an involuntary reaction to her giggle. It seemed out of place.
"So are you from Earth originally?" he asked.
"No," she replied, "I'm originally from Trill. My father is an ambassador for Trill and my mother is going to be a soon admiral. I've never been to Earth."
"Trill?" he asked, surprised. "I didn't notice, but now I can see the spots when your hair moves."
She put her hair behind her ears so he could be a better view of them. She had small faded spots from her temples the alined down the side of her face and into her suite. "I'm only half Trill," she smiled, "My mother is human. Have you ever met a Trill before?"
"No, surprising really but there were no Trill in my year at the Academy," he replied, fascinated by the spots.
She smiled and replied,"Well I'm not truely suprised. Even thou Trill's have a good relationship with the Federation. There still stuck with there underground movement." Then she took a sip of her drink. Remebering her last vist to Trill nothing had changed since her childhood.
"I've heard about it, but only really on the FNN," Tav said. His knowledge of the political affairs of Trill was very limited, as was his knowledge of politics in general.
"Aww," started Callen, "Its one of the reason I left Trill. Not that I'm ashamed of my people is just I'm tired of the BS that goes on. So what of your family? Are you hundred percent Human?"
"Through and through, one hundred percent Scottish as a matter of fact," he replied with a smile. "Born, raised and bred."
"Interesting," coed Callen, "So what's Scotland like? As I said before I've never been to Earth."
"Despite all the development on Earth it's still very rural, mountainous in areas, not to the extent of some planets of course, but it's very scenic," Tav replied. He took another sip before continuing. "Small streams, flowing down grand valleys, snow-capped mountains, and big flat lakes which look like mirrors."
"Sounds wonderful," stated Callen trying to imagin what it would be like visiting there, "A lot better then moutains, dirty, smog, blood, and misery. Even when your not in the mines its still not quite a beautiful as Scotland sounds like."
"You'll have to visit if we get back to Earth at some point," Tav suggested.
"Is that an invitation," Callen coed, "And you'll be my personal tour guide as well?"
"Has anyone ever told you that you're quite forward?" Tav asked, grinning. "Or is it just with me?"
"No," Callen smiled, "But I find it such a good trait I've inherited from my father." Then she gave him another look and stated, "Or am I too forward. I know sometimes it can intimidate people. I don't want to make you feel uncomfortable."
"I am easily intimidated," he replied, pointing his fingers towards his body. "You can tell, just look at me."
Callen raised both her hands and stated, "I won't complain." Then she lowered her hands and started to laugh a little. "Do you have a little lady at home," Callen smiled.
"No," he replied with a wry grin. "Do you?"
"No I was just courious," Callen stated, "You can be at ease solider." Then she took the last sip of her drink and handed it over to Helen with her plate. "Well Mr. Big shot this is my leave. If you want you can join me further?" Then she sat her hands on her lap and cocked her head with a soft smile.
"Oh? Where?" Tav asked, finishing his own drink and placing down on the bar.
Callen lowered her eyes and turned her head slightly, "My place?" Then she looked at him and bit her lower lip.
"I can't think of anything else I'd rather be doing," Tav replied, a slightly serious look crossed his face, but his eyes were alight with excitement.
Callen's smile grew bigger. She removed herself from the bar stool and stood infront of him; leaning over to were only he could hear, "I would love to see just how dirty you can get you hands." Then she stood up and winked at him with a devilish smile. She looked at Helen and stated her goodbyes. And then headed for the door, but walked backwards swinging her upper torsal slightly, when he walked towards her.
"I bet," Tav replied, before following her lead, watching and walking as she walked backwards. He felt the sudden urge to scratch his shoulder, providing a peacock-like display of his large upper arm to Callen.
Callen gave a big smile as she grabbed him and scurried out of the lounge. When she reached the turbo lift, she walked backwards into it and pulled Tav close to her. As the doors closed Callen started to kiss Tav, preparing herself for a eventful evening.
