The Forests of Mythraeli
Location: Mythraeli
Timeline: Morning
ON
Elizabeth woke at first light. She'd spent a comfortable night, but now she wanted to get the fire started. She crawled out of her bedroll and walked over to the fire pit and stopped. Everything was damp. It hadn't rained, but the underbrush was damp all the way through. The fire pit looked like it had been doused with water. Even the soil around it was damp.
She searched through the soft underbrush for anything she could use to start another fire. Everything had a thick coating of dew and was damp throughout. Perplexed, she went back to her bedroll.
Marek awoke and got on his feet; he stretched uncontrollably and vertically before he joined Lizzie. "Morning," he greeted.
"Hi," Lizzie replied, frustrated. "All the wood is damp. All the brush is damp. The whole area is damp."
"I'll go look for some that is dry," Marek said and he walked off at a stroll.
"Good luck," Lizzie said softly. There was something really odd about all this. She dug around in her pack and pulled out her combadge and began to tinker. She wasn't an engineer, but maybe she could get a signal of some sort with her science tricorder and combadge together... At least it was better than doing nothing.
Wandering around for at least five minutes and no sign of anything fire worthy all of which was eroding away Marek's calm demeanour. Several times he was seriously considering climbing a tree to break off a few branches but found suddenly fear of heights confronted the Romulan every time; he pushed on in his search for dry kindling with no luck so far.
Lizzie got the combadge to crackle. Maybe she'd be able to contact someone on the ship? Or at least another member of the away team? With renewed vigor, she carefully began tweaking the signal to see if she could get it to work. Instead of getting stronger, the signal grew weaker and then died altogether. After several more minutes of tinkering, she tossed them back into her pack and began to pack up camp. "Come on, Staff Sergeant, let's see if we can find our way out of here." She used a little more force than necessary, but it helped vent her frustration.
Allen had been checking through his own gear to see if he could find something to help start a fire, but he had nothing. After several minutes he pulled out two ration bars, gave one to Lizzie and helped her pack up the camp.
When they'd cleared the camp and smoothed the fern back into place as much as possible, they went in search of Lovok.
