Ronnie rang the chime on the CO's ready room, not sure why she'd been summoned to see Sam.

"Come in," Sam said. When she saw Ronnie she smiled. "Have a seat."

Ronnie sat a little timidly. "What do you want?" she asked, wanting to get right to the point.

Sam chuckled. "Okay. I'll keep it brief. I'm not very happy with the way Lieutenant O'Connor has been performing of late. He's either unprepared, fails to show up or sends YOU late. It's not what I expect from my chiefs. So, I'm switching your positions. You'll be acting Chief Science Officer and he'll be your assistant."

Ronnie stared at her. "You what?"
That was not at all what she'd expected to hear.

"I don't know if this will be temporary or permanent. That all depends on how everyone performs. For now, however, you're in charge. I've already given Mr. O'Connor the news. I expect you both to behave professionally." This was the pat of her job Sam hated most. This, and losing crew.

"Are you sure?" Ronnie asked, still not quite believing what she was hearing.

"Yes, I'm sure," Sam chuckled. "As of now, you're the Chief. A memo will be sent to the department advising them of the change so you don't have to."

"Good. I wasn't looking forward to that," Ronnie said. "Is there anything else you need from me?"

"Find out why we can't contact our people on the planet," Sam said.

"Working on it," Ronnie assured her.

"Good. In that case, you're dismissed. I hope to hear something soon." Sam smiled. "And good luck."
