A Final Request

Sam finished her daily reports and tapped on her combadge. "York to Kyt, please meet with me at your earliest convenience."

Kyt did not take long at all, before arriving at the Commanding Officer's office. Pressing the doorbell, she waited with a carefully neutral facial expression, while waiting.

"Come in, Gunny. Have a seat," Sam said. "I had a talk with Lieutenant Colonel Raine."

"I have not had the opportunity, yet." Kyt said, with a nod. "I've not been reassigned Marine duty, and Some of the people in Security have been helpful getting a few certifications out of the way."

"I've noticed. You've done well so far. We've agreed to accept your request -- and Jaxara's. Effective immediately you will be transferred to Security and given the rank of Ensign. Pending the completion of your courses, you will be made acting chief of security. If you acquit yourself well, it will become permanent."

Kyt lost her neutral expression, relatively quickly. "Wow. Really?" Kyt asked. "I was half expecting Major Raine to refuse my request."

"Major Raine is now Lieutenant Colonel Raine and he did not refuse. He does, however, think you need an attitude adjustment. So take that under advisement."

Kyt chuckled. "My attitude towards the marine Corps is definitely questionable, yes." Kyt said with a nod. "I will do my best to keep this advice in mind, though, ma'am."

"And, regardless of your personal views, you need to treat the Marines with respect. Lieutenant Colonel Raine is one of the best men you could hope to work with. Unfortunately you weren't around enough to find out for yourself," Sam said. "Security will often work with the Marines. I expect you to speak well of them and treat them the same as you treat every other department."

"I have no issue against..." She stopped herself. "Most of the marines aboard." Kyt said, with a nod. "They will be treated with respect, so long as they return it."

She frowned. "Although a woman... Guntold, I believe was her name... I'm not... fond of her, and would prefer not to be tasked to the same away teams as that individual. I apologize for the brutal honesty of my opinions, if they offend you ma'am. It's just my way of doing things."

"I'm not offended," Sam told her. "And I have no problem with you avoiding Guntold. Just don't vocalize your opinion in front of the rest of the crew. They may not be as tolerant."

Kyt nodded. "I had noted that a great many humanoids are not as... open... as most Bajorans are of their opinions, and beliefs. I find it somewhat curious." She said. "I will do my best to keep my opinions to myself, as per your request, ma'am."

"That's all I ask," Sam said. "Is there anything you need from me?" she asked.

Kyt shook her head. "Just your signature on some paperwork from Security, regarding a few... shall we say... questionable... officers, who had rather poor reviews from the previous Chief Security and Tactical Officer." She said. She grabbed a PADD from the replicator, and had the computer transfer the data onto it. "Lieutenant Junior Grade Lire, Ensign James Davies, Ensign William Devries, and Chief Warrant Officer Winchester. A few... we'll call them legal unpleasant situations... will be removing them from the active duty roster, permanently."

Sam read carefully over the PADD before signing off on it. "All right. They'll be transferred off the ship at the first opportunity." She pulled a box out of a drawer. "Oh, and you'll need this." She handed the box with Tramira's new rank pip. "Stop by the Quartermaster's and get a new uniform from Apu. Your replicator will be authorized for the appropriate uniform shortly."

Kyt nodded. "Thank you ma'am." Kyt said with a smile. She stood, and awaited the Captain's dismissal.

"You're dismissed... Ensign," Sam said with a smile. "Good luck."
