Samantha sat at her office desk and ran yet another sweep of the secondary database. So far everything looked good. The securities were in place; the buffers set and no one who wasn’t authorized to use the system could get into – or out of – the database. If they tried, they’d be stuck in a logic loop and caught in a buffer. The main database had its own securities, but they weren’t as tight as the secondary one. This would give the department a ‘locked vault,’ so to speak, for data. All experiments that ran long-term were to run off the secondary database, which had its own power and was independent of the main computer. A precaution Sam hoped she’d never need. But it was there, just in case.
One final test, one last tweak, and it was done. Sam sat back and entered the command to activate the database. She heard it start up, saw her other cmputer light up, and smiled.
Once everything was up and running, she checked it again. Still good. Sam stretched and stood up. It had been a long day and she could use a break.
